< Iyyoob 1 >
1 Biyya Uuzi jedhamu keessa nama Iyyoob jedhamu tokkotu ture. Namichi kunis nama hirʼina hin qabnee fi qajeelaa, nama Waaqa sodaatuu fi hammina irraa fagaate ture.
There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job. And this man was blameless and upright, fearing God and shunning evil.
2 Innis ilmaan torbaa fi intallan sadii qaba ture;
He had seven sons and three daughters,
3 akkasumas hoolota kuma torba, gaala kuma sadii, qotiyyoo cimdii dhibba shanii fi harroota dhibba shan, tajaajiltoota hedduus qaba ture; innis namoota biyya Baʼa Biiftuu jiraatan hunda keessaa nama guddaa ture.
and he owned 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 female donkeys, and a very large number of servants. Job was the greatest man of all the people of the East.
4 Ilmaan isaas mana isaaniitti dabaree dabareedhaan cidha qopheessanii akka isaan wajjin nyaatanii dhuganiif obboleettota isaanii sadan affeeru ture.
Job’s sons would take turns holding feasts in their homes, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.
5 Erga yeroon cidha sanaa raawwatamee booddee Iyyoob itti ergee ijoollee isaa waamsisuudhaan, “Tarii ijoolleen koo cubbuu hojjetanii garaa isaaniittis Waaqa abaaraniiru taʼa” jedhee ganama barii waaʼee tokkoo tokkoo isaaniitiif aarsaa gubamu dhiʼeessuudhaan isaan qulqulleessa ture. Iyyoob yeroo hunda waan kana godha ture.
And when the days of feasting were over, Job would send for his children to purify them, rising early in the morning to offer burnt offerings for all of them. For Job thought, “Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular practice.
6 Gaaf tokko yeroo ergamoonni Waaqayyoo fuula Waaqayyoo duratti dhiʼaachuuf dhufanitti Seexannis isaan wajjin dhufe.
One day the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them.
7 Waaqayyos seexanaan, “Ati Eessaa dhufte?” jedhe. Seexannis, “Ani lafa hunda irra jooraa, asii fi achis deddeebiʼaa tureen dhufe” jedhee Waaqayyoof deebise.
“Where have you come from?” said the LORD to Satan. “From roaming through the earth,” he replied, “and walking back and forth in it.”
8 Waaqayyos Seexanaan, “Ati tajaajilaa koo Iyyoobin qalbeeffatteertaa? Namni isa fakkaatu tokko illee lafa irra hin jiru; inni nama hirʼina hin qabnee fi qajeelaa, nama Waaqa sodaatuu fi hammina irraa fagaatee dha” jedhe.
Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one on earth like him, a man who is blameless and upright, who fears God and shuns evil.”
9 Seexanni immoo deebisee akkana jedhe, “Iyyoob akkasumaan Waaqa sodaataa?
Satan answered the LORD, “Does Job fear God for nothing?
10 Ati naannoo isaatti, warra mana isaa jiraatanii fi waan kan isaa taʼe hundatti dallaa ijaarteerta mitii? Ati akka bushaayee fi loon isaa biyyicha guutaniif hojii harka isaa eebbifteertaaf.
Have You not placed a hedge on every side around him and his household and all that he owns? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.
11 Garuu ati mee harka kee diriirsiitii waan inni qabu hunda dhaʼi; inni dhugumaan ifaan ifatti si abaara.”
But stretch out Your hand and strike all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face.”
12 Waaqayyos Seexanaan, “Kunoo, wanti inni qabu hundi si harka jira; isa garuu qubaanuu hin tuqin” jedhe. Sana booddee Seexanni fuula Waaqayyoo duraa baʼee deeme.
“Very well,” said the LORD to Satan. “Everything he has is in your hands, but you must not lay a hand on the man himself.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.
13 Gaaf tokko utuu ilmaanii fi intallan Iyyoob mana obboleessa isaanii isa hangafaatti nyaachaa, daadhii wayinii dhugaa jiranuu,
One day, while Job’s sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,
14 ergamaan tokko gara Iyyoob dhufee akkana jedhe; “Utuu qotiyyoon qotaa, harroonni immoo naannuma sana dheedaa jiranuu,
a messenger came and reported to Job: “While the oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby,
15 namoonni Shebaa balaa buusanii isaan fudhatanii deeman. Tajaajiltootas goraadeedhaan fixan; ana qofatu miliqee sitti himuuf dhufe!”
the Sabeans swooped down and took them away. They put the servants to the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
16 Utuma inni dubbachaa jiruu ergamaan biraa dhufee, “Ibiddi Waaqaa samiidhaa buʼee hoolotaa fi tajaajiltoota gubee fixe; ana qofatu miliqee sitti himuuf dhufe!” jedhe.
While he was still speaking, another messenger came and reported: “The fire of God fell from heaven. It burned and consumed the sheep and the servants, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
17 Utuu inni dubbachaa jiruu ammas ergamaan biraa dhufee, “Kaldoonni garee sadiitti qoodamanii gaalawwan kee irra yaaʼanii isaan oofatanii deeman; tajaajiltootas goraadeedhaan fixan; ana qofatu miliqee sitti himuuf dhufe!” jedhe.
While he was still speaking, another messenger came and reported: “The Chaldeans formed three bands, raided the camels, and took them away. They put the servants to the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
18 Utuma inni dubbachaa jiruu ergamaan biraa dhufee akkana jedheen; “Ilmaanii fi intallan kee mana obboleessa isaanii isa hangafaatti nyaachaa, daadhii wayinii dhugaa turan;
While he was still speaking, another messenger came and reported: “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,
19 yeroo kanattis bubbee hamaan akka tasaa gammoojjiidhaa kaʼee golee mana sanaa afran dhaʼe; manni sunis isaan irratti jigee dhuman; ana qofatu miliqee sitti himuuf dhufe!”
when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on the young people and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you!”
20 Kana irratti Iyyoob uffata isaa tarsaasee mataa isaa haaddate. Lafatti gombifamee sagadee
Then Job stood up, tore his robe, and shaved his head. He fell to the ground and worshiped,
21 akkana jedhe: “Ani qullaa koon gadameessa haadha kootiitii baʼe; qullaa koos nan deema. Waaqayyotu kenne; Waaqayyotu fudhate; maqaan Waaqayyoo haa eebbifamu.”
saying: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.”
22 Wantoota kanneen hunda keessatti Iyyoob hojii dogoggoraatiin Waaqa himachuudhaan cubbuu hin hojjenne.
In all this, Job did not sin or charge God with wrongdoing.
