1 Bildaad Shuhaahichi akkana jedhee deebise:
Then Bildad the Shuhite spoke up and said,
2 “Ati hamma yoomiitti waan akkasii dubbatta? Dubbiin kee bubbee jabaa dha.
“How much longer will you go on talking like this? The words coming out of your mouth are a lot of hot air!
3 Waaqni murtii qajeelaa jalʼisaa ree? Waaqni Waan Hunda Dandaʼu waan qajeelaa jalʼisaa?
Does God pervert justice? Does the Almighty pervert what is right?
4 Yommuu ijoolleen kee cubbuu isatti hojjetanitti, inni adabbii cubbuu isaaniitti dabarsee isaan kenne.
Your children must have sinned against him, and so they deserved the punishment he inflicted on them.
5 Ati garuu yoo Waaqa barbaadatte, Waaqa Waan Hunda Dandaʼu yoo waammatte,
But if you pray to God and ask for his help,
6 yoo ati qulqulluu fi qajeelaa taate, inni waaʼee keetiif ammuma kaʼa; jireenya qajeelummaa kees siif deebisa.
if you live a clean life and do what is right, then he would act to make things right for you in your home.
7 Jalqabni kee xinnaa taʼu illee, dhumni kee baayʼee guddaa taʼa.
Though you began with next to nothing, you will end up with so much!
8 “Dhaloota darbe gaafadhu; waan abbootiin isaanii qoratanii bira gaʼanis hubadhu;
Why don't you ask what previous generations discovered, examine what our ancestors found out? We were born yesterday and don't know anything!
9 nu waan kaleessa dhalanneef waa tokko illee hin beeknuutii; baroonni keenyas lafa irratti akkuma gaaddidduu ti.
Our days on earth fade as quickly as a passing shadow.
10 Isaan si hin barsiisanii? Sittis hin himanii? Dubbii garaa isaanii keessa jirus hin dubbatanii?
Won't they teach you and explain what they know?
11 Dhallaadduun lafa caffee hin taʼinitti guddataa? Shambaqqoonis bishaan malee lalisaa?
Can papyrus grow where there is no marsh? Can reeds grow without water?
12 Isaan utuma guddachaa jiranuu, utuu hin muramin, biqiltuuwwan kaan dura dafanii gogu.
Even without being cut, while they are still flowering, they wither faster than grass.
13 Dhumni warra Waaqa irraanfataniis akkasuma taʼa; abdiin warra Waaqa hin beeknees ni bada.
This is what happens to everyone who forgets God. The hopes of those who live without God come to nothing.
14 Abdiin isaa akkuma salphaatti cita; ofitti amanachuun isaas manʼee sariitii ti.
Their confidence is like holding on to a flimsy spider's web.
15 Inni manʼee isaatti irkata; manʼeen sun garuu hin dhaabatu; itti maxxanas; manʼeen sun garuu dandaʼee isa hin baatu.
They look to their home to provide security, but it provides no support. They try to hang onto it, but it doesn't last.
16 Inni akka biqiltuu aduu keessatti bishaan obaafamee lalisuutti, dameewwan isaa lafa biqiltuu irra diriirfatuu ti.
Those who live without God are like a luxuriant plant growing in the sun, spreading its shoots all over the garden.
17 Hidda isaa tuullaa dhagaatti marata; kattaa gidduus iddoo jiraatu ni barbaaddata.
It twists its roots down through the stones, and holds on to rock.
18 Yommuu inni iddoo isaatii badutti garuu, iddoon sun, ‘Ani si argee hin beeku’ jedhee isa gana.
But when it's cut down, the place where it was disowns it, saying, ‘I never even saw you.’
19 Kunis dhuma jireenya isaa ti; biqiltuuwwan biraas lafaa ni biqilu.
Its life is over, and others spring up from the earth to take its place.
20 “Waaqni nama hirʼina hin qabne hin gatu; yookaan harka jalʼootaa hin jabeessu.
Look, God doesn't reject someone who is innocent, and he doesn't support those who are guilty.
21 Inni afaan kee kolfaan, arraba kee immoo ililleedhaan ni guuta.
He can make you laugh with happiness again and shout for joy.
22 Warri si jibban salphina uffatu. Dunkaanni jalʼootaas siʼachi hin jiraatu.”
Those who hate you will be put to shame, and the place where the wicked live will be destroyed.”
