1 Eliifaaz namichi Teemaan sun akkana jedhee deebise:
Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied:
2 “Yoo namni tokko sitti dubbachuu yaale, ati ni komattaa? Garuu eenyutu dubbachuu dhiisa?
“If one ventures a word with you, will you be wearied? Yet who can keep from speaking?
3 Ati akka nama baayʼee barsiifte, akka harka dadhabaa illee jajjabeessite yaadadhu.
Surely you have instructed many, and have strengthened their feeble hands.
4 Dubbiin kee warra gatantaran gargaaree dhaabeera; atis jilba laafe jabeessiteerta.
Your words have steadied those who stumbled; you have braced the knees that were buckling.
5 Amma garuu rakkinni sirra gaʼe; atis abdii kutatteerta; rakkinni si miidheera; atis rifatteerta;
But now trouble has come upon you, and you are weary. It strikes you, and you are dismayed.
6 Waaqa sodaachuun kee irkoo kee, qajeelinni karaa keetiis abdii kee mitii?
Is your reverence not your confidence, and the uprightness of your ways your hope?
7 “Ammas yaadadhu; namni qulqulluun takkumaa badee beekaa? Qajeelonni eessatti badanii beeku?
Consider now, I plead: Who, being innocent, has ever perished? Or where have the upright been destroyed?
8 Akka ani hubadhetti warri waan hamaa qotatan, kanneen waan hamaa facaasanis isuma haammatu.
As I have observed, those who plow iniquity and those who sow trouble reap the same.
9 Isaanis hafuura Waaqni isaanitti baafatuun badu; hafuuraa dheekkamsa isaaniitiinis ni barbadeeffamu.
By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of His anger they are consumed.
10 Leenci ni aada; ni gururiʼas; ilkaan leenca saafelaa garuu ni caccaba.
The lion may roar, and the fierce lion may growl, yet the teeth of the young lions are broken.
11 Leenci jabaan waan adamsu dhabee ni duʼa; ilmaan leenca dhaltuus ni bittinnaaʼu.
The old lion perishes for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness are scattered.
12 “Dubbiin tokko icciitiidhaan naa fidame; gurri koos asaasa isaa dhagaʼe.
Now a word came to me secretly; my ears caught a whisper of it.
13 Abjuu halkanii sodaachisaa keessa, yommuu hirribni cimaan nama qabatutti,
In disquieting visions in the night, when deep sleep falls on men,
14 sodaa fi hollachuun na qabatee lafee koo hunda raase.
fear and trembling came over me and made all my bones shudder.
15 Hafuurri luffi jedhee fuula koo dura darbe; rifeensi dhagna koos kaʼee dhaabate.
Then a spirit glided past my face, and the hair on my body bristled.
16 Innis ni dhaabate; ani garuu inni maal akka taʼe hubachuu hin dandeenye. Fakkiin tokko ija koo dura dhaabate; anis sagalee tasgabbii kan akkana jedhu tokkon dhagaʼe:
It stood still, but I could not discern its appearance; a form loomed before my eyes, and I heard a whispering voice:
17 ‘Namni duʼa hin oolle, Waaqa caalaa qajeelaa taʼuu dandaʼaa? Namni Uumaa isaa caalaa qulqulluu taʼuu dandaʼaa?
‘Can a mortal be more righteous than God, or a man more pure than his Maker?
18 Waaqni tajaajiltoota isaa hin amanatu; ergamoota isaas balleessaa isaaniitiin ni gaafata;
If God puts no trust in His servants, and He charges His angels with error,
19 yoos warri manneen suphee keessa jiraatan, warri hundeen isaanii biyyoo taʼe, warri bilii caalaa burkutaaʼan immoo akkam haa taʼan ree?
how much more those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundations are in the dust, who can be crushed like a moth!
20 Isaan ganamaa fi galgala gidduutti burkutaaʼu; tasumas bara baraan ni badu.
They are smashed to pieces from dawn to dusk; unnoticed, they perish forever.
21 Akka isaan ogummaa malee duʼaniif funyoon dunkaana isaanii hin luqqifamnee?’
Are not their tent cords pulled up, so that they die without wisdom?’
