Iyyoob 22
1 Eliifaaz Teemaanichi akkana jedhee deebise:
Then answered Eliphaz the Themanite, and said,
2 “Namni Waaqa fayyaduu dandaʼaa? Namni ogeessi iyyuu maal isa fayyada?
Can a man be serviceable unto God? Truly the intelligent is serviceable unto himself.
3 Yoo ati nama qajeelaa taate wanni kun Waaqa Waan Hunda Dandaʼuuf gammachuu maalii kenna? Yoo karaan kee hirʼina qabaachuu baates inni buʼaa maalii argata?
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that thou art righteous? or is it any gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
4 “Wanni Waaqni sitti dheekkamee murtiitti si dhiʼeessuuf waan ati isa sodaattuufii?
Is it out of fear of thee that he will reproach thee? or go with thee into judgment?
5 Hamminni kee guddaa dha mitii? Cubbuun kees dhuma hin qabu mitii?
Is not thy evil great? and no end to thy iniquities?
6 Ati sababii malee obboloota kee irraa qabdii fudhatteerta; namoota irraa uffata baaftee qullaa isaan hambifteerta.
For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brothers for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
7 Warra dadhaban bishaan hin obaafne; kanneen beelaʼanis nyaata dhowwatteerta;
Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and from the hungry thou hast withholden bread.
8 namni humna qabu biyya qabaata; kan ulfina qabus keessa jiraata.
But as for the man of a strong arm, he obtained the land, and the highly honored could dwell therein.
9 Ati dubartoota dhirsoonni irraa duʼan harka duwwaa gad dhiifte; irree ijoollee abbaa hin qabnees ni cabsite.
Widows hast thou sent away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
10 Kanaafuu kiyyoon si marseera; sodaan tasaas si qabateera.
Therefore are snares round about thee, and sudden dread terrifieth thee.
11 Akka ati hin argineef ifni kee dukkanaaʼeera; lolaan bishaaniis sirra garagala.
Or seest thou not the darkness? and the abundance of water which covereth thee?
12 “Waaqni samii keessa ol fagoo jiraata mitii? Inni urjiiwwan ol fagoo jiran illee hammam akka ol fagaatan of jalatti gad ilaala!
Is not God in the height of heaven? and beholding the highest elevation of the stars, however high they are?
13 Ati garuu akkana jetta; ‘Waaqni maal beeka? Inni dukkana akkasii keessatti murtii kennaa?
But thou sayest, “What doth God know? can he judge behind the darkness?
14 Yommuu inni bantii samii irra deemu, akka inni nu hin argineef duumessi gobbuun isa haguuga.’
Thick clouds are a covering for him, so that he will not see; and he walketh along on the circle of heaven.”
15 Ati daandii durii kan namoonni hamoon irra deeman duukaa buutaa?
Wilt thou [thus] observe the path of ancient times which the men of injustice have trodden?
16 Isaan utuu yeroon isaanii hin gaʼin fudhataman; hundeen isaanis lolaadhaan haxaaʼame.
Who were shrivelled up before their time, whose foundation was flooded away like a river;
17 Isaanis Waaqaan, ‘Nu dhiisi! Waaqni Waan Hunda Dandaʼu maal nu gochuu dandaʼa?’ jedhan.
Who said unto God, “'Depart from us:” and what wrought the Almighty for them?
18 Garuu kan mana isaanii waan gaariin guute isuma; kanaafuu ani gorsa hamootaa irraa nan fagaadha.
And yet it was he that filled their houses with good things; but the counsel of the wicked be [still] far from me.
19 Qajeelonnis badiisa isaanii arganii ni gammadu; warri balleessaa hin qabnes akkana jedhanii isaanitti qoosu;
The righteous will see it, and be glad; and the innocent will laugh them to scorn.
20 ‘Dhugumaan amajaajonni keenya balleeffamaniiru; qabeenya isaaniis ibiddi barbadeesseera.’
“Is not he destroyed that rose up against us, and hath not the fire consumed what they had left?”
21 “Waaqaan walii gali; isa wajjinis nagaan jiraadhu; haala kanaanis wanni gaariin siif dhufa.
Do but become acquainted with him, and be at peace: thereby will happiness come unto thee.
22 Afaan isaatii qajeelfama fudhadhu; dubbii isaa illee garaatti qabadhu.
Do but accept instruction from his mouth, and lay up his saying in thy heart.
23 Yoo gara Waaqa Waan Hunda Dandaʼuutti deebite, ati ni haaromfamta; yoo dunkaana kee keessaa hammina balleessitee
If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, so thou wilt but remove wrong-doing far away from thy tents.
24 warqee kee biyyoo keessa buufte, yoo warqee Oofiirii immoo dhagaa keessatti gatte,
And throw down in the dust precious metals, and [the gold of] Ophir to the stones of the brooks:
25 yoos Waaqni Waan Hunda Dandaʼu warqee, meetii filatamaas siif taʼa.
Then will the Almighty be thy precious metal, and brightly-shining silver unto thee.
26 Ati yeroo sanatti Waaqa Waan Hunda Dandaʼutti ni gammadda; fuula kees gara Waaqaatti ol qabatta.
For then wilt thou have in the Almighty thy delight, and thou canst lift up unto God thy face.
27 Ati isa kadhatta; inni si dhagaʼa; ati immoo wareega kee ni baafatta.
Thou wilt make entreaty unto him, and he will hear thee, and thy vows wilt thou pay.
28 Wanni ati murteessite ni taʼa; ifnis karaa kee irratti ni ifa.
And if thou decree a thing, it will be fulfilled unto thee; and upon thy ways the light will shine.
29 Yeroo namoonni gad qabamanitti ati immoo, ‘Ol isaan qabi!’ jetta; innis warra gad qabaman ni baraara.
For when men are brought low, thou wilt say, Pride [hath done it]; but those of lowly eyes [God] will help.
30 Inni nama balleessaa qabu illee ni oolcha; ati qulqullummaa harka keetiitiin furamta.”
He will even deliver him who is not guiltless: and thou wilt be delivered by the purity of thy hands.
