< Isaayyaas 37 >
1 Hisqiyaas mootichi yommuu waan kana dhagaʼetti, uffata isaa tarsaasee wayyaa gaddaas uffatee mana qulqullummaa Waaqayyoo seene.
When Hezekiah heard it, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth, and went into the Lord's Temple.
2 Innis Eliiyaaqiim bulchaa masaraa mootummaa, Shebnaa barreessaa fi luboota dura buʼoota hundi isaanii wayyaa gaddaa uffatan Isaayyaas raajicha ilma Amoos sanatti erge.
He sent Eliakim the palace manager, Shebna, the scribe, and the leading priests, all wearing sackcloth, to see the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz.
3 Isaanis akkana jedhanii isatti himan; “Hisqiyaas akkana jedha: Guyyaan kun akkuma yeroo daaʼimni tokko dhalachuu gaʼee garuu dubartiin humna ittiin ciniinsifattee deessu dhabduutti guyyaa lubbamuu, kan dheekkamsaatii fi kan salphinaa ti.
They told him, “This is what Hezekiah says: Today is a day of trouble and of punishment. It's like when babies arrive at the entrance to the birth canal but there's no strength to deliver them.
4 Waaqayyo Waaqni kee dubbii ajajaa waraanaa kan gooftaan isaa mootichi Asoor akka inni Waaqa jiraataatti qoosuuf erge sanaa dhagaʼee dubbii Waaqayyo Waaqni kee dhagaʼe sanaaf jedhee isatti dheekkama taʼa. Kanaafuu ati hambaawwan hamma ammaatti jiraniif kadhadhu.”
Maybe the Lord your God, hearing the message the army commander delivered on behalf of his master, the king of Assyria—a message sent to insult the living God—will punish him for his words. Please say a prayer for the remnant of us who still survive.”
5 Yommuu qondaaltonni Hisqiyaas Mootichaa gara Isaayyaas dhufanitti,
After Hezekiah's officials delivered his message to Isaiah,
6 Isaayyaas akkana isaaniin jedhe; “Akkana jedhaa gooftaa keessanitti himaa; ‘Waaqayyo akkana jedha: Ati waan dhageesse jechuunis dubbii garboonni mootii Asoor ittiin na arrabsan sana hin sodaatin.
Isaiah replied to them, “Tell your master, This is what the Lord says: Don't be frightened by the words that you have heard, the words used by the servants of the king of Assyria to blaspheme me.
7 Dhaggeeffadhaa! Ani akka inni oduu wayii dhagaʼee gara biyya ofii isaatti deebiʼuuf hafuura tokko isa keessa nan kaaʼa; achittis akka inni goraadeedhaan ajjeefamu nan godha.’”
Look, I'm going to scare him—he'll hear a rumor, and he'll have to return to his own country. When he's there I'll have him killed by the sword.”
8 Ajajaan waraanaas yommuu akka mootiin Asoor Laakkiishii baʼee deeme dhagaʼetti, duubatti deebiʼee utuu mootichi Libnaa lolaa jiruu argate.
The Assyrian army commander left and went back to join the king of Assyria, having heard the king had left Lachish and was attacking Libnah.
9 Senaaheriibis akka Tiirhaaq mootichi Itoophiyaa sun isa loluuf dhufaa jiru dhagaʼe. Innis yommuu waan kana dhagaʼetti, akkana jedhee Hisqiyaasitti ergamoota erge:
Sennacherib had received a message about Tirhakah, king of Ethiopia, that said, “Watch out! He is coming to attack you.” So Sennacherib sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,
10 “Hisqiyaas mooticha Yihuudaatiin akkana jedhaa: Waaqni ati abdattu sun, ‘Yerusaalem dabarfamtee harka mootii Asooritti hin kennamtu’ jedhee si hin gowwoomsin.
“Tell Hezekiah, king of Judah: ‘Don't let your God, the one you're trusting in, fool you by saying that Jerusalem won't fall into the hands of the king of Assyria.
11 Ati waan mootonni Asoor guutumaan guutuutti isaan balleessuudhaan biyyoota hunda godhan dhageesseerta. Ati immoo ni haftaa ree?
Look! You've heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the countries they've invaded— they destroyed them completely! Do you really think you'll be saved?
12 Waaqonni saboota abbootiin koo barbadeessan sanaa jechuunis waaqonni Goozaan, waaqonni Kaaraan, waaqonni Rezefii fi waaqonni namoota Eden kanneen Telaasaar keessa turan sanaa isaan oolchaniiruu?
Did the gods of the nations my forefathers destroyed save them—the gods of Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden who lived in Telassar?
13 Mootiin Hamaati yookaan mootiin Arfaad eessa jira? Mootiin magaalaa Seefarwaayim, mootiin Heenaa yookaan mootiin Iwaa eessa jira?”
Where today is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of the city of Sepharvaim, the king of Hena, or the king of Ivvah?”
14 Hisqiyaasis ergamoota sana harkaa xalayaa fuudhee dubbifate. Ergasiis gara mana qulqullummaa Waaqayyootti ol baʼee xalayaa sana fuula Waaqayyoo duratti diriirse.
Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the Lord's Temple and opened it out before the Lord.
15 Hisqiyaas akkana jedhee Waaqayyoon kadhate:
Hezekiah prayed to the Lord, saying,
16 “Yaa Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandeessu, Waaqa Israaʼel, kan Kiirubeel gidduu teessoo irra jirtu, si qofatu mootummoota lafaa hunda irratti Waaqa. Ati samii fi lafa uumteerta.
“Lord Almighty, God of Israel, you who live above the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth, you are Creator of heaven and earth.
17 Yaa Waaqayyo, gurra kee as qabiitii dhagaʼi; yaa Waaqayyo, ija kees banadhuu ilaali; dubbii Senaaheriib kan inni Waaqa jiraataa arrabsuuf erge kana hunda dhaggeeffadhu.
Please listen with your ears, Lord, and hear; open your eyes, Lord, and see. Listen to the message that Sennacherib has sent to insult the living God.
18 “Yaa Waaqayyo, mootonni Asoor uummata kana hundaa fi biyyoota isaanii balleessuun dhugaa dha.
Yes, it's true, Lord, that the Assyrian kings have destroyed these nations and their lands.
19 Isaan waaqota jaraa ibiddatti naqanii barbadeessaniiru; waaqonni sun mukaa fi dhagaa harka namaatiin soofaman turan malee waaqota hin turreetii.
They have thrown their gods into the fire because they are not really gods—they are just the work of human hands, made of wood and stone so they could destroy them.
20 Kanaafuu yaa Waaqayyo Waaqa keenya, akka mootummoonni lafaa hundinuu akka ati qofti Waaqayyo Waaqa taate beekaniif, harka isaatii nu baasi.”
Now, Lord our God, please save us from him, in order that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that only you, Lord, are God.”
21 Sana booddee Isaayyaas ilmi Amoos akkana jedhee Hisqiyaasitti ergaa erge; “Waaqayyo Waaqni Israaʼel akkana jedha: Sababii ati waaʼee Senaaheriib mooticha Asoor na kadhatteef,
Then Isaiah, son of Amoz, sent a message to Hezekiah, saying, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Because you've prayed to me about Sennacherib, king of Assyria,
22 dubbiin Waaqayyo isaan mormuudhaan dubbate kunoo kanaa dha: “Intalli Xiyoon durbi qulqullittiin si tuffattee sitti qoosti. Intalli Yerusaalem yeroo ati baqattutti mataa ishee sitti raafti.
this is the word of the Lord condemning him: The virgin daughter of Zion scorns you and mocks you; the daughter of Jerusalem shakes her head as you run away.
23 Kan ati itti qoostee arrabsite sun eenyu? Ati eenyutti sagalee kee ol fudhattee of tuulummaadhaan ija ol qabatte? Qulqullichuma Israaʼel sanatti mitii!
Who have you been insulting and ridiculing? Who did you raise your voice against? Who did you look at with so proud eyes? It was against the Holy One of Israel!
24 Ati karaa ergamoota keetiitiin, Gooftaatti qoosteerta. Ati akkanas jetteerta; ‘Ani gaariiwwan koo hedduudhaan fiixee tulluuwwaniitti, fiixee Libaanoon kan akka malee ol dheeratuttis ol baʼeera. Ani birbirsawwan isaa akka malee dhedheeroo, gaattiraawwan isaa filatamoo sanas ciccireera. Ani fiixeewwan isaa kanneen akka malee ol fagoo, bosonoota akka malee mimmiidhagoo qaqqabeera.
By your servants you have mocked the Lord. You said: ‘With my many chariots I have ascended to the high mountains, to the farthest peaks of Lebanon. I have chopped down its tallest cedars, the best of its cypress trees. I have reached its most distant heights, its deepest forests.
25 Ani biyya ormaatti boolla bishaanii qotadhee achitti bishaan dhugeera. Ani faana miilla kootiin lageen Gibxi hunda gogseera.’
I have dug wells and drunk water in foreign lands. With the soles of my feet I dried up all the rivers in Egypt.’”
26 “Ati waan kana hin dhageenyee? Bara dheeraan dura anatu waan kana hojjete. Ani bara durii keessa waan kana nan karoorfadhe; amma immoo hojii irra oolfadheera; kunis akka ati magaalaawwan dallaa jabaa qaban diigdee tuullaa dhagaa gootuu dha.
The Lord replies, “Haven't you heard? I decided it long ago; I planned it in the olden days. Now I am making sure it happens—that you are to knock down fortified towns into piles of rubble.
27 Namoonni isaanii humna dhabanii abdii kutataniis qaanaʼan. Isaan akkuma biqiltuu diidaa, akkuma biqiltuu kichuu tokkoo, akkuma marga mana gubbaatti biqilu kan utuu hin guddatin gubatee ti.
Their people, powerless, are terrified and humiliated. They're like plants in a field, like soft green shoots, like grass that sprouts on the rooftop—scorched before it can even grow.
28 “Ani garuu lafa ati jirtu, yoom akka dhuftuu fi yoom akka deemtu, akka ati akka malee natti aartu illee nan beeka.
But I know you very well—where you live, when you come in, when you leave, and your furious anger against me.
29 Sababii ati akka malee natti aartee of tuulummaan kees gurra koo seeneef, ani funyaan keetti hokkoo koo, afaan keetti immoo luugama koo kaaʼee akka ati karuma dhufte sanaan deebitu sin godha.
Because of your furious anger against me, and because I know how you disrespect me, I'm going to put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, and I will force you to return the same way you came.”
30 “Yaa Hisqiyaas kun mallattoo siif taʼa: “Isin waggaa kana waan ofumaan biqilu, waggaa lammaffaatti immoo waanuma isa irraa latu nyaattu. Waggaa sadaffaatti garuu facaafadhaa galfadhaa; muka wayiniis dhaabbadhaatii ija isaa nyaadhaa.
“Hezekiah, this will be a sign to prove this is true: This year you'll eat what grows by itself. The second year you'll eat what grows from that. But in the third year you'll sow and reap, you'll plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
31 Ammas hambaan mootummaa Yihuudaa tokko, jalaan hidda baafatee gubbaan immoo ija naqata.
The remnant that's left of Judah will revive again, sending roots below and bearing fruit above.
32 Yerusaalem keessaa hambaan tokko, Tulluu Xiyooniitii immoo gareen warra badiisa jalaa baʼe tokkoo ni dhufa. Hinaaffaan Waaqayyoo Waan Hunda Dandaʼuu waan kana ni raawwata.
For a remnant will come out of Jerusalem, and survivors will come from Mount Zion. The intense determination of the Lord will make sure this happens.
33 “Kanaafuu Waaqayyo waaʼee mooticha Asoor akkana jedha: “Inni magaalaa kana hin seenu, yookaan xiyya tokko illee asitti hin darbatu. Inni gaachana qabatee fuula isaa duratti hin dhiʼaatu yookaan tuullaa biyyoo itti hin marsu.
This is what the Lord says about the king of Assyria: He shall not enter this city or shoot an arrow at it. He shall not advance towards it with a shield, or build a siege ramp against it.
34 Inni karuma dhufe sanaan ni deebiʼa; magaalaa kanas hin seenu” jedha Waaqayyo.
He shall return the same way he came, and he shall not enter this city, says the Lord.
35 “Anis sababii ofii kootii fi sababii garbicha koo Daawitiif jedhee magaalaa kana nan eega; nan oolchas!”
I will defend this city and save it, for my own sake and for the sake of my servant David.”
36 Ergasii ergamaan Waaqayyoo gad baʼee qubata warra Asoor keessatti nama kuma dhibba tokkoo fi saddeettamii shan fixe. Yommuu namoonni guyyaa itti aanu ganama bariin kaʼanitti kunoo reeffi namaa lafa guutee ture.
Then the angel of the Lord went to the Assyrian camp and killed 185,000 of them. When the survivors woke up in the morning, they were surrounded by dead bodies.
37 Kanaafuu Senaaheriib mootichi Asoor qubata sana keessaa baʼee baqate; Nanawweetti deebiʼees achi jiraate.
Sennacherib, king of Assyria, gave up and left. He returned home to Nineveh and stayed there.
38 Gaaf tokko utuu inni mana sagadaa Waaqa isaa Nisrook jedhamuu keessatti waaqeffachaa jiruu ilmaan isaa Adramelekii fi Sharezer goraadeedhaan isa ajjeesanii gara biyya Araaraatitti baqatan. Ilmi isaa Eesarhadoonis iddoo isaa buʼee mootii taʼe.
While he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer killed him with the sword and then ran away to the land of Ararat. His son Esar-haddon succeeded him as king.
