< Isaayyaas 36 >
1 Bara mootummaa Hisqiyaas mootichaa keessa waggaa kudha afuraffaatti Senaaheriib mootichi Asoor magaalaawwan Yihuudaa kanneen dallaa jabaa qaban hunda lolee ni qabate.
In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.
2 Ergasii mootichi Asoor, Raafaasqiis ajajaa waraana isaa loltoota hedduu wajjin Laakkiishii gara Yerusaalem, Hisqiyaas mootichatti erge. Ajajaan sunis jalʼisii Haroo Ol aanu kan karra Lafa Qotiisaa Namicha Wayyaa Miicuutti geessu bira gaʼee dhaabate;
And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem, with a great army, against King Hezekiah, and he halted at the aqueduct of the upper pool, in the highway to the fuller's field.
3 Eliiyaaqiim ilmi Hilqiyaa bulchaan masaraa mootummaa, Shebnaa barreessaanii fi Yooʼaa ilmi Asaaf galmeessaan gara isaatti gad baʼan.
Then came forth to him Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, who was over the palace, and Shebna the scribe, and Josh, the son of Asaph, the annalist.
4 Ajajaan waraanaa sunis akkana isaaniin jedhe; “Akkana jedhaa Hisqiyaasitti himaa: “‘Mootiin guddaan, mootichi Asoor akkana jedha: Of amanachuu kee kana maal irratti hundeeffatte?
And Rabshakeh said to them, Say ye to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria: What a confidence is this which thou cherishest!
5 Ati, “Ani tooftaa fi jabina waraanaa qaba” jetta; garuu dubbii faayidaa hin qabne dubbatta. Ati eenyun abdattee natti fincilta?
Thou sayest, (but it is vain talk, ) “I have counsel and strength for war.” In whom, then, dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
6 Kunoo ati Gibxin jechuunis ulee shambaqqoo caccabaa harka nama isatti irkatu kamii iyyuu waraanee madeessu sana abdatteerta! Faraʼoon Mootichi Gibxis nama isa abdatu hundaaf akkasuma.
Behold, thou trustest in that broken reed-staff, Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will pierce his hand, and go through it. Such is Pharaoh, king of Egypt, to all that trust in him.
7 Yoo ati, “Nu Waaqayyo Waaqa keenya abdanna” naan jette, inni isuma Hisqiyaas iddoowwan sagadaa isaatii fi iddoowwan aarsaa isaa diigee Yihuudaa fi Yerusaalemiin, “Isin fuula iddoo aarsaa kanaa duratti waaqeffachuu qabdu” jedhe sana mitii?
But if ye say to me, “We trust in Jehovah, our God,”—is it not he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem to worship before this altar?
8 “‘Amma kottuutii gooftaa koo mooticha Asoor wajjin dubbadhu; anis yoo ati namoota farda yaabbatan qopheeffachuu dandeesse fardeen kuma lama siifin kenna!
Engage, now, with my master, the king of Assyria! and I will give thee two thousand horses, when thou art able to provide for thyself riders for them.
9 Yoos ati yoo gaariiwwanii fi abbootii fardaatiif jettee Gibxin abdatte iyyuu, akkamiin qondaaltota gooftaa kootii keessaa ajajaa gad aanaa isaa illee of irraa deebisuu dandeessa?
How, then, canst thou resist a single captain, one of the least of the servants of my master? Yet thou trustest in Egypt, on account of her chariots and her horsemen.
10 Ati waan ani dubbii Waaqayyoo malee biyya kana lolee barbadeessuuf dhufe seetaa? Waaqayyo mataan isaa akka ani biyya kanatti duulee ishee barbadeessu natti dubbateera.’”
And am I now come up without Jehovah against this land to destroy it? Jehovah hath said to me, “Go up against this land and destroy it!”
11 Kana irratti Eliiyaaqiim, Shebnaa fi Yooʼaa ajajaa waraanaa sanaan, “Maaloo waan nu dhageenyuuf afaan warra Araamaayikiitiin garboota keetti dubbadhu. Utuma namoonni dallaa irra jiran dhagaʼanii afaan Ibrootaatiin nutti hin dubbatin” jedhan.
Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Josh to Rabshakeh: Speak, we beseech thee, to thy servants in the Aramaic language, for we understand it; and speak not to us in the Jewish language, in the hearing of the people that are upon the wall.
12 Ajajaan waraanaa sun garuu akkana jedhee deebise; “Namni gooftaan koo akka ani waan kana itti himuuf itti na erge gooftaa keessanii fi isin qofaa? Namoota dallaa irra tataaʼan warra akkuma keessan udaan ofii isaanii nyaatanii fincaan ofii isaanii dhuguu qabaniifis mitii?”
But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to speak these words to thy master and to thee only, and not to the people who sit upon the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own urine with you?
13 Ergasii ajajaan waraanaa sun ol kaʼee afaan Ibrootaatiin akkana jedhe; “Dubbii mooticha guddaa, dubbii mootii Asoor dhagaʼaa!
Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jewish language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.
14 Mootichi akkana jedha: Hisqiyaas isin hin gowwoomsin. Inni isin baasuu hin dandaʼu!
Thus saith the king: Let not Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you.
15 Hisqiyaas, ‘Waaqayyo dhugumaan nu baasa; magaalaan kunis dabarfamtee harka mooticha Asooritti hin kennamtu’ jechuudhaan akka isin Waaqayyoon amanattaniif isin hin sossobin.
And let not Hezekiah persuade you to trust in Jehovah, saying, “Jehovah will certainly deliver us. This city shall not be delivered into the hands of the king of Assyria.”
16 “Hisqiyaasin hin dhaggeeffatinaa. Mootiin Asoor akkana jedha: Ana wajjin nagaa buusaatii gara koo kottaa. Ergasii tokkoon tokkoon keessan muka wayiniitii fi muka harbuu keessan irraa ni nyaattu; boolla bishaan keessanii keessaas ni dhugdu;
Hearken not to Hezekiah; for thus saith the king of Assyria: Make peace with me, and come out to me; and ye shall every one eat of his own vine, and every one of his own fig-tree, and ye shall every one drink the waters of his own cistern,
17 kunis hamma ani dhufee gara biyya akkuma biyya keessanii jirtuu, gara biyya midhaanii fi daadhii wayinii haaraatti, biyya buddeenaa fi iddoo dhaabaa wayiniitti isin geessutti taʼa.
until I come, and take you to a land like your own land; a land of corn, and of new wine, a land of bread and of vineyards.
18 “Hisqiyaas, ‘Waaqayyo nu baraara’ jedhee isin hin dogoggorsin; Waaqni saboota kamii iyyuu takkumaa harka mooticha Asoor keessaa biyya ofii baafatee beekaa?
Be not persuaded by Hezekiah, when he saith, “Jehovah will deliver us.” Have the gods of the nations delivered every one his own land from the hand of the king of Assyria? Where are the gods of Hamath and of Arphad?
19 Waaqonni Hamaatii fi waaqonni Arfaad eessa jiru? Waaqonni Seefarwaayim eessa jiru? Isaan harka koo keessaa Samaariyaa baasaniiruu?
Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? And did the gods deliver Samaria from my hand?
20 Waaqota biyyoota kanneenii hunda keessaa kamtu biyyoota isaanii harka koo keessaa baasuu dandaʼe? Yoos Waaqayyo akkamiin harka koo keessaa Yerusaalemin baasuu dandaʼa ree?”
Who is there among all the gods of these lands, that hath delivered his land out of my hand, that Jehovah should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?
21 Namoonni garuu sababii mootichi, “Deebii hin kenninaafii” jedhee ajajeef inuma calʼisan malee deebii tokko iyyuu hin kennine.
But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word; for the king's command was, “Answer him not.”
22 Kana irratti Eliiyaaqiim ilmi Hilqiyaa bulchaan masaraa mootummaa, Shebnaa barreessaanii fi Yooʼaa ilmi Asaaf galmeessaan, uffata isaanii tatarsaasanii gara Hisqiyaas dhaqanii waan ajajaan waraanaa sun jedhe itti ni himan.
Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the palace, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the annalist, to Hezekiah, with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
