Uumama 18
1 Utuma Abrahaam guyyaa saafaadhaan qilxuu Mamree bira balbala dunkaana isaa dura taaʼee jiruu Waaqayyo isatti mulʼate.
And Jehovah appeareth unto him among the oaks of Mamre, and he is sitting at the opening of the tent, about the heat of the day;
2 Abrahaamis ol ilaalee namoota isa bira dhadhaabatan sadii arge. Innis akkuma isaan argeen balbala dunkaana isaa duraa kaʼee isaan simachuudhaaf itti fiige; hamma lafa gaʼuttis gad jedhee harka fuudhe.
and he lifteth up his eyes and looketh, and lo, three men standing by him, and he seeth, and runneth to meet them from the opening of the tent, and boweth himself towards the earth,
3 Innis akkana jedheen; “Gooftaa ko, yoo ani si duratti fudhatama argadhe, garbicha kee bira hin darbin.
And he saith, 'My Lord, if, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes, do not, I pray thee, pass on from thy servant;
4 Bishaan xinnoo isiniif haa fidan; miilla dhiqadhaatii muka kana jala boqodhaa.
let, I pray thee, a little water be accepted, and wash your feet, and recline under the tree;
5 Erga isin gara garbicha keessanii dhuftanii, ani akka isin dadhabbii baatanii karaa keessan itti fuftaniif waan isin nyaattan isiniifin kenna.” Isaanis, “Akkuma jette sana godhi” jedhanii deebisan.
and I bring a piece of bread, and support ye your heart; afterwards pass on, for therefore have ye passed over unto your servant;' and they say, 'So mayest thou do as thou has spoken.'
6 Kanaafuu Abrahaam dafee Saaraatti dunkaana seenee, “Dafii daakuu bullaaʼaa safartuu sadii sukkuumiitii maxinoo tolchi” jedheen.
And Abraham hasteth towards the tent, unto Sarah, and saith, 'Hasten three measures of flour-meal, knead, and make cakes;'
7 Innis gara saawwaniitti fiigee jabbii gabbatee itti tole tokko filatee hojjetaa tokkotti kenne; hojjetaan sunis qopheessuuf ariifate.
and Abraham ran unto the herd, and taketh a son of the herd, tender and good, and giveth unto the young man, and he hasteth to prepare it;
8 Abrahaamis itittuu fi aannan, foon jabbii qopheeffame sanas geessee isaanii dhiʼeesse; yeroo isaan nyaachaa turanittis Abrahaam muka tokko jala isaan bira dhaabachaa ture.
and he taketh butter and milk, and the son of the herd which he hath prepared, and setteth before them; and he is standing by them under the tree, and they do eat.
9 Isaanis, “Niitiin kee Saaraan eessa jirti?” jedhanii isa gaafatan. Innis, “Kuunnoo dunkaana keessa jirti” jedheen.
And they say unto him, 'Where [is] Sarah thy wife?' and he saith, 'Lo — in the tent;'
10 Isaan keessaa tokko, “Ani dhugumaan bara dhufu keessa yeroo akkanaatti deebiʼee gara kee nan dhufa; niitiin kee Saaraanis ilma ni deessi” jedhe. Yeroo sana Saaraan balbala dunkaanaa kan isa duubaan jiru keessaan dhaggeeffachaa turte.
and he saith, 'returning I return unto thee, about the time of life, and lo, to Sarah thy wife a son.'
11 Abrahaamii fi Saaraan umuriin isaanii dheeratee dulloomanii turan; Saaraanis umurii itti mucaa daʼuu dandeessu dabartee turte.
And Sarah is hearkening at the opening of the tent, which is behind him;
12 Kanaafuu Saaraan, “Ani erga jaaree bututee, gooftaan koos erga dulloomee booddee, gammachuu kana qabaachuu nan dandaʼaa?” jettee of keessatti kolfite.
and Abraham and Sarah [are] aged, entering into days — the way of women hath ceased to be to Sarah;
13 Kana irratti Waaqayyo Abrahaamiin akkana jedhe; “Saaraan maaliif, ‘Ani ergan dulloomee booddee amma dhugumaan mucaa nan daʼaa?’ jettee kolfite?
and Sarah laugheth in her heart, saying, 'After I have waxed old I have had pleasure! — my lord also [is] old!'
14 Wanni Waaqayyoof hin dandaʼamne tokko iyyuu jiraa? Ani bara dhufu keessa yeroo murteeffametti deebiʼee gara kee nan dhufa; Saaraanis ilma ni deessi.”
And Jehovah saith unto Abraham, 'Why [is] this? Sarah hath laughed, saying, Is it true really — I bear — and I am aged? Is any thing too wonderful for Jehovah? at the appointed time I return unto thee, about the time of life, and Sarah hath a son.'
15 Saaraanis waan sodaatteef sobdee, “Ani hin kolfine” jette. Inni garuu, “Lakkii kolfiteertaa” jedhe.
And Sarah denieth, saying, 'I did not laugh;' for she hath been afraid; and He saith, 'Nay, but thou didst laugh.'
16 Namoonni sun yommuu deemuuf kaʼanitti gara Sodoom gad ilaalan; Abrahaamis isaan geggeessuuf jedhee isaan wajjin baʼe.
And the men rise from thence, and look on the face of Sodom, and Abraham is going with them to send them away;
17 Ergasii Waaqayyo akkana jedhe; “Ani waanan gochuuf jiru Abrahaamin nan dhoksaa?
and Jehovah said, 'Am I concealing from Abraham that which I am doing,
18 Abrahaam dhugumaan saba guddaa fi jabaa taʼa; sabni lafa irraa hundinuu karaa isaatiin eebbifama.
and Abraham certainly becometh a nation great and mighty, and blessed in him have been all nations of the earth?
19 Akka inni ijoollee isaatii fi sanyii isaa warra isa duubaan dhufan, akka isaan waan qajeelaa fi sirrii taʼe hojjechuudhaan karaa Waaqayyoo eegan ajajuuf ani isa filadheeraatii; kunis akka Waaqayyo waan Abrahaamiif kakate sana isaaf guutuuf.”
for I have known him, that he commandeth his children, and his house after him (and they have kept the way of Jehovah), to do righteousness and judgment, that Jehovah may bring on Abraham that which He hath spoken concerning him.'
20 Waaqayyos akkana jedhe; “Iyyi Sodoomii fi Gomoraa irratti iyyame guddaa dha; cubbuun isaaniis waan akka malee hamaa taʼeef
And Jehovah saith, 'The cry of Sodom and Gomorrah — because great; and their sin — because exceeding grievous:
21 ani gad buʼee akka wanni isaan hojjetan akkuma iyya na qaqqabe sanaa hamaa taʼe nan ilaala. Yoo akkas taʼuu baate immoo natu beeka.”
I go down now, and see whether according to its cry which is coming unto Me they have done completely — and if not — I know;'
22 Namoonni sunis garagalanii Sodoomitti qajeelan; Abrahaam garuu Waaqayyo dura dhaabatee hafe.
and the men turn from thence, and go towards Sodom; and Abraham is yet standing before Jehovah.
23 Abrahaamis isatti dhiʼaatee akkana jedhe; “Ati nama qajeelaa nama jalʼaa wajjin ni balleessitaa?
And Abraham draweth nigh and saith, 'Dost Thou also consume righteous with wicked?
24 Yoo namoonni qajeeloon shantamni magaalattii keessa jiraatan hoo? Ati dhugumaan ishee ni balleessitaa? Sababii qajeelota shantamman ishee keessa jiraatan sanaatiif jettee ishee hin oolchituu?
peradventure there are fifty righteous in the midst of the city; dost Thou also consume, and not bear with the place for the sake of the fifty — the righteous who [are] in its midst?
25 Qajeelaa fi hamaa wal qixxee ilaaluudhaan nama qajeelaa nama hamaa wajjin balleessuun sirraa haa fagaatu. Kun sirraa haa fagaatu! Abbaan murtii lafa hundaa waan qajeelaa hin hojjetuu?”
Far be it from Thee to do according to this thing, to put to death the righteous with the wicked; that it hath been — as the righteous so the wicked — far be it from Thee; doth the Judge of all the earth not do justice?'
26 Waaqayyos, “Ani yoo magaalaa Sodoom keessatti qajeeltota shantama argadhe, isaaniif jedhee iddoo sana guutuu nan oolcha” jedhe.
And Jehovah saith, 'If I find in Sodom fifty righteous in the midst of the city, then have I borne with all the place for their sake.'
27 Abrahaam ammas akkana jedhe; “Kunoo ani utuman awwaaraa fi daaraa taʼee jiruu Gooftaatti dubbachuuf ija jabaadheera;
And Abraham answereth and saith, 'Lo, I pray thee, I have willed to speak unto the Lord, and I — dust and ashes;
28 yoo baayʼinni qajeeltotaa shantama irraa shan hirʼate hoo? Ati sababii namoota shanan sanaatiif jettee magaalaa sana guutuu ni balleessitaa?” Innis, “Ani yoo nama afurtamii shan achitti argadhe ishee hin balleessu” jedhe.
peradventure there are lacking five of the fifty righteous — dost Thou destroy for five the whole of the city?' and He saith, 'I destroy [it] not, if I find there forty and five.'
29 Abrahaam amma illee, “Yoo qajeeltonni afurtamni qofti achitti argaman hoo?” jedhee isatti dubbate. Gooftaanis, “Ani warra afurtama sanaaf jedhee nan dhiisa” jedhe.
And he addeth again to speak unto Him and saith, 'Peradventure there are found there forty?' and He saith, 'I do [it] not, because of the forty.'
30 Abrahaamis, “Mee nan dubbadhaatii Gooftaan, hin aarin. Yoo namoonni soddomni qofti achitti argaman hoo?” jedhe. Gooftaanis, “Ani yoon nama soddoma achitti argadhe ishee hin balleessu” jedhee deebise.
And he saith, 'Let it not be, I Pray thee, displeasing to the Lord, and I speak: peradventure there are found there thirty?' and He saith, 'I do [it] not, if I find there thirty.'
31 Abrahaamis, “Kunoo amma erga ani Gooftaatti dubbachuuf ija jabaadhe, yoo namoonni digdamni qofti achitti argaman hoo?” jedhe. Gooftaanis, “Ani sababii namoota digdama sanaatiif jedhee ishee hin balleessu” jedhe.
And he saith, 'Lo, I pray thee, I have willed to speak unto the Lord: peradventure there are found there twenty?' and He saith, 'I do not destroy [it], because of the twenty.'
32 Abrahaamis, “Yaa Gooftaa amma illee yeroo tokko waa sin gaafadhaatii maaloo hin aarin; yoo namni kudhan qofti achitti argame hoo?” jedhe. Gooftaan immoo, “Ani sababii namoota kurnan sanaatiif jedhee ishee hin balleessu” jedhe.
And he saith, 'Let it not be, I pray Thee, displeasing to the Lord, and I speak only this time: peradventure there are found there ten?' and He saith, 'I do not destroy [it], because of the ten.'
33 Waaqayyos erga Abrahaam wajjin dubbatee fixee booddee achii deeme. Abrahaam immoo iddoo ofii isaatti deebiʼe.
And Jehovah goeth on, when He hath finished speaking unto Abraham, and Abraham hath turned back to his place.
