Uumama 17

1 Yeroo Abraam nama waggaa sagaltamii sagalii turetti Waaqayyo isatti mulʼatee akkana jedheen; “Ani Waaqa Waan Hundumaa Dandaʼuu dha; ati fuula koo dura amanamummaan deddeebiʼi; hirʼinas hin qabaatin.

And Abram is a son of ninety and nine years, and Jehovah appeareth unto Abram, and saith unto him, 'I [am] God Almighty, walk habitually before Me, and be thou perfect;

2 Ani kakuu koo anaa fi si gidduu nan dhaaba; guddaas sin baayʼisa.”

and I give My covenant between Me and thee, and multiply thee very exceedingly.'

3 Abraamis adda isaatiin lafatti gombifame; Waaqnis akkana isaan jedhe;

And Abram falleth upon his face, and God speaketh with him, saying,

4 “Kunoo, kakuun ani si wajjin galu kana: ati abbaa saba baayʼee taata.

'I — lo, My covenant [is] with thee, and thou hast become father of a multitude of nations;

5 Ati siʼachi Abraam jedhamtee hin waamamtu; waan ani abbaa saboota baayʼee si taasiseef maqaan kee Abrahaam taʼa.

and thy name is no more called Abram, but thy name hath been Abraham, for father of a multitude of nations have I made thee;

6 Ani akka ati guddaa baayʼattu nan godha; akka sabni hedduun si keessaa argamu nan godha; mootonnis si keessaa ni argamu.

and I have made thee exceeding fruitful, and made thee become nations, and kings go out from thee.

7 Ani Waaqa keetii fi Waaqa sanyii kee kan si duubaan dhufuu taʼuuf jedhee kakuu koo anaa, sii fi sanyii kee kan si duubaa, dhaloota dhufuuf jiru gidduutti kakuu bara baraa godhee nan dhaaba.

'And I have established My covenant between Me and thee, and thy seed after thee, to their generations, for a covenant age-during, to become God to thee, and to thy seed after thee;

8 Biyya Kanaʼaan guutuu lafa ati amma orma taatee jiraattu kana ani dhaala bara baraa godhee siʼii fi sanyiiwwan kee warra si booddeetiif nan kenna; anis Waaqa isaanii nan taʼa.”

and I have given to thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land of thy sojournings, the whole land of Canaan, for a possession age-during, and I have become their God.'

9 Waaqni Abrahaamiin akkana jedhe; “Ati immoo kakuu koo eeguu qabda; ati, sanyiin kee warri si duubaas dhaloota isaanii keessatti kakuu koo eeguu qabdu.

And God saith unto Abraham, 'And thou dost keep My covenant, thou and thy seed after thee, to their generations;

10 Kakuun koo kan isin anaa fi siʼi gidduutti, sanyii kee kan siʼi duubaan dhufu gidduuttis eeguu qabdan kanaa dha; innis isin keessaa dhiirri hundinuu dhagna haa qabatu.

this [is] My covenant which ye keep between Me and you, and thy seed after thee: Every male of you [is] to be circumcised;

11 Qola keessan dhagna qabadhaa; kunis kakuu anaa fi isin gidduu jiruuf mallattoo taʼa.

and ye have circumcised the flesh of your foreskin, and it hath become a token of a covenant between Me and you.

12 Isin keessaa dhiirri guyyaa saddeet guute dhagna haa qabatu; dhaloota keessan hunda keessatti dhiirri mana keetti dhalate yookaan kan nama biyya ormaa irraa maallaqa keetiin bitame hundi kan sanyii kee hin taʼin dhagna haa qabatu.

'And a son of eight days is circumcised by you; every male to your generations, born in the house, or bought with money from any son of a stranger, who is not of thy seed;

13 Mana keetti dhalatanis yookaan maallaqa keetiin bitamanis isaan dhagna haa qabatan. Kakuun koo kan foon keessan irratti godhame kun kakuu bara baraa taʼa.

he is certainly circumcised who [is] born in thine house, or bought with thy money; and My covenant hath become in your flesh a covenant age-during;

14 Dhiirri dhagna hin qabatin, kan qola foon isaa dhagna hin qabatin kam iyyuu saba ofii isaa keessaa balleeffama; inni kakuu koo cabseeraatii.”

and an uncircumcised one, a male, the flesh of whose foreskin is not circumcised, even that person hath been cut off from his people; My covenant he hath broken.'

15 Waaqni ammas Abrahaamiin akkana jedhe; “Ati siʼachi niitii kee Sooraadhaan, Sooraa hin jettu; maqaan ishee Saaraa taʼa.

And God saith unto Abraham, 'Sarai thy wife — thou dost not call her name Sarai, for Sarah [is] her name;

16 Ani ishee nan eebbisa; ishee irraas ilma siif nan kenna. Akka isheen haadha sabootaa taatuufis ishee nan eebbisa; mootonni sabootaas ishee keessaa argamu.”

and I have blessed her, and have also given to thee a son from her; and I have blessed her, and she hath become nations — kings of peoples are from her.'

17 Abrahaamis addaan gombifame; kolfees, “Nama waggaa dhibbaatiif ilmi ni dhalataa? Saaraanis waggaa sagaltamatti mucaa deessii?” jedhee yaade.

And Abraham falleth upon his face, and laugheth, and saith in his heart, 'To the son of an hundred years is one born? or doth Sarah — daughter of ninety years — bear?'

18 Abrahaamis Waaqaan, “Maaloo utuu Ishmaaʼeel fuula kee dura naa jiraatee!” jedhe.

And Abraham saith unto God, 'O that Ishmael may live before Thee;'

19 Waaqnis akkana jedhe; “Tole; garuu niitiin kee Saaraan ilma siif deessi; maqaa isaas Yisihaaq jedhii moggaasi. Anis kakuu koo sanyii isaa kan isa duubaan dhufuuf kakuu bara baraa godhee isa wajjin nan dhaaba.

and God saith, 'Sarah thy wife is certainly bearing a son to thee, and thou hast called his name Isaac, and I have established My covenant with him, for a covenant age-during, to his seed after him.

20 Waaʼee Ishmaaʼeel immoo ani si dhagaʼeera; kunoo ani, isa nan eebbisa; akka inni baayʼatu nan godha; guddaa isa nan baayʼisa. Inni abbaa bulchitoota kudha lamaa taʼa; anis saba guddaa isa nan godha.

As to Ishmael, I have heard thee; lo, I have blessed him, and made him fruitful, and multiplied him, very exceedingly; twelve princes doth he beget, and I have made him become a great nation;

21 Kakuu koo garuu Yisihaaq isa Saaraan waggaa dhufu keessa yeroo kanatti siif deessu wajjin nan dhaaba.”

and My covenant I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah doth bear to thee at this appointed time in the next year;'

22 Waaqni erga Abrahaam wajjin haasaʼee fixatee booddee isa biraa ol baʼe.

and He finisheth speaking with him, and God goeth up from Abraham.

23 Abrahaamis guyyuma sana ilmaan isaa Ishmaaʼeelii fi warra mana isaatti dhalatan yookaan warra maallaqa isaatiin bitaman hunda, dhiira mana isaa hundumaas fuudhee akkuma Waaqni isatti himetti dhagna qabe.

And Abraham taketh Ishmael his son, and all those born in his house, and all those bought with his money — every male among the men of Abraham's house — and circumciseth the flesh of their foreskin, in this self-same day, as God hath spoken with him.

24 Abrahaam yeroo dhagna qabatetti nama waggaa sagaltamii sagalii ture.

And Abraham [is] a son of ninety and nine years in the flesh of his foreskin being circumcised;

25 Ilmi isaa Ishmaaʼeel immoo yeroo dhagna qabatetti nama waggaa kudha sadii ture.

and Ishmael his son [is] a son of thirteen years in the flesh of his foreskin being circumcised;

26 Abrahaamii fi ilmi isaa Ishmaaʼeel guyyuma sana dhagna qabatan.

in this self-same day hath Abraham been circumcised, and Ishmael his son;

27 Dhiirri mana Abrahaam hundinuu, warri mana isaatti dhalatan yookaan warri orma irraa maallaqaan bitamanis isa wajjin dhagna qabatan.

and all the men of his house — born in the house, and bought with money from the son of a stranger — have been circumcised with him.
