Izraa 10
1 Utuma Izraan mana Waaqaa duratti lafaan of dhaʼee booʼaa, cubbuu himachaa, kadhachaa jiruu Israaʼeloonni akka malee hedduun dhiironni, dubartoonnii fi ijoolleen naannoo isaatti walitti ni qabaman. Isaanis hiqqifatanii booʼan.
While Ezra prayed and made this confession, weeping and falling facedown before the house of God, a very large assembly of Israelites—men, women, and children—gathered around him, and the people wept bitterly as well.
2 Ergasiis sanyii Eelaam keessaa Shekaaniyaan ilmi Yehiiʼeel Izraadhaan akkana jedhe; “Nu waan saboota naannoo keenya jiraatan keessaa dubartoota ormaa fuuneef Waaqa keenyaaf hin amanamne. Wanni kun taʼu illee amma iyyuu Israaʼeliif abdiin jira.
Then Shecaniah son of Jehiel, an Elamite, said to Ezra: “We have been unfaithful to our God by marrying foreign women from the people of the land, yet in spite of this, there is hope for Israel.
3 Kanaafuu kottaa akkuma gorsa gooftaa koo fi kan warra ajaja Waaqa keenyaa sodaatanitti dubartoota kanneenii fi ijoollee isaanii hunda of irraa geggeessuuf fuula Waaqa keenyaa duratti kakuu ni galla. Kunis akkuma Seeraatti haa raawwatamu.
So now let us make a covenant before our God to send away all the foreign wives and their children, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who tremble at the command of our God. Let it be done according to the Law.
4 Kaʼi; wanni kun suma harka jira. Nu si deeggarra; egaa jabaadhuu hojjedhu.”
Get up, for this matter is your responsibility, and we will support you. Be strong and take action!”
5 Kanaafuu Izraan kaʼee akka isaan waan jedhame sana raawwataniif luboota hangafoota, Lewwotaa fi Israaʼel hunda ni kakachiise; isaanis ni kakatan.
So Ezra got up and made the leading priests, Levites, and all Israel take an oath to do what had been said. And they took the oath.
6 Ergasii Izraan fuula mana Waaqaa duraa kaʼee kutaa manaa kan Yehohaanaan ilma Eliyaashiib seene. Inni yeroo achi turetti nyaata tokko illee hin nyaanne; bishaanis hin dhugne; sababii amanamummaa dhabiisa warra boojuudhaa deebiʼaniif gaddaa tureetii.
Then Ezra withdrew from before the house of God and walked to the chamber of Jehohanan son of Eliashib. And while he stayed there, he ate no food and drank no water, because he was mourning over the unfaithfulness of the exiles.
7 Ergasii akka warri boojuudhaa deebiʼan hundi Yerusaalem keessatti walitti qabamaniif Yihuudaa fi Yerusaalem guutuu keessatti labsiin ni labsame.
And a proclamation was issued throughout Judah and Jerusalem that all the exiles should gather at Jerusalem.
8 Namni kam iyyuu bultii sadii keessatti yoo dhiʼaachuu baate akkuma murtii qondaaltotaa fi maanguddootaatti qabeenyi isaa hundi irraa ni fudhatama; inni mataan isaas waldaa warra boojuudhaa deebiʼee keessaa ni ariʼama.
Whoever failed to appear within three days would forfeit all his property, according to the counsel of the leaders and elders, and would himself be expelled from the assembly of the exiles.
9 Bultii sadan sana keessatti namoonni Yihuudaa fi Beniyaam hundi Yerusaalem keessatti walitti qabaman. Bultii digdammaffaa jiʼa saglaffaatti namoonni hundi sababii waan kanaa fi sababii rooba guddaatiif akka malee raafamanii oobdii mana Waaqaa dura jiru irra ni tataaʼan.
So within the three days, all the men of Judah and Benjamin assembled in Jerusalem, and on the twentieth day of the ninth month, all the people sat in the square at the house of God, trembling regarding this matter and because of the heavy rain.
10 Izraan lubichi ol kaʼee akkana isaaniin jedhe; “Isin amanamoo hin turre; dubartoota ormaa fuudhuudhaanis Israaʼel irratti yakka dabaltaniirtu.
Then Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, “You have been unfaithful by marrying foreign women, adding to the guilt of Israel.
11 Egaa amma cubbuu keessan Waaqayyo Waaqa abbootii keessanitti himadhaatii fedhii isaa guutaa. Saboota naannoo keessan jiraatanii fi niitota warra ormaa keessaa fuutaniin gargar baʼaa.”
Now, therefore, make a confession to the LORD, the God of your fathers, and do His will. Separate yourselves from the people of the land and from your foreign wives.”
12 Guutummaan waldaa sanaa akkana jedhee sagalee guddaadhaan deebise: “Ati sirrii dha! Nu akkuma ati jette gochuu qabna.
And the whole assembly responded in a loud voice: “Truly we must do as you say!
13 Garuu nama hedduutu as jira; yeroon kunis yeroo roobaa ti; kanaafuu nu ala dhaabachuu hin dandeenyu. Sababii nu waan kana keessatti cubbuu guddaa hojjenneef wanni kun guyyaa tokkotti yookaan guyyaa lamatti fala argachuu hin dandaʼu.
But there are many people here, and it is the rainy season. We are not able to stay out in the open. Nor is this the work of one or two days, for we have transgressed greatly in this matter.
14 Qondaaltonni keenya iddoo waldaa guutuu haa buʼan. Ergasii namni magaalaawwan keenyaa kan dubartii ormaa fuudhe kam iyyuu hamma dheekkamsi Waaqa keenyaa sodaachisaan sababii waan kanaatiif dhufe sun nurraa deebiʼutti maanguddootaa fi abbootii murtii tokkoo tokkoo magaalaa wajjin yeroo murteeffametti haa dhufu.”
Let our leaders represent the whole assembly. Then let everyone in our towns who has married a foreign woman come at an appointed time, together with the elders and judges of each town, until the fierce anger of our God in this matter is turned away from us.”
15 Yoonaataan ilma Asaaheelii fi Yahizeyaa ilma Tiqwaa qofatu waan kana morme; Meshulaamii fi Shaabetaayi Lewwichi immoo isaan deeggaran.
(Only Jonathan son of Asahel and Jahzeiah son of Tikvah, supported by Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite, opposed this plan.)
16 Warri boojuudhaa deebiʼan sunis akkasuma godhan. Izraan lubichis namoota hangafoota maatii taʼan tokkoo tokkoo garee maatii keessaa nama tokko filatee hunduma isaanii maqaa maqaan ramade. Isaanis bultii tokkoffaa jiʼa kurnaffaatti dhimma sana qorachuudhaaf tataaʼanii
So the exiles did as proposed. Ezra the priest selected men who were family heads, each of them identified by name, to represent their families. On the first day of the tenth month they launched the investigation,
17 guyyaa tokkoffaa jiʼa jalqabaatti waaʼee namoota dubartoota ormaa fuudhan hundaa qoratanii fixan.
and by the first day of the first month they had dealt with all the men who had married foreign women.
18 Sanyii lubootaa keessaa namoonni dubartoonni ormaa fuudhan kanneenii dha: Sanyii Iyyaasuu ilma Yoozaadaaqii fi obboloota isaa keessaa: Maʼaseyaa, Eliiʼezer, Yaariibii fi Gedaaliyaas.
Among the descendants of the priests who had married foreign women were found these descendants of Jeshua son of Jozadak and his brothers: Maaseiah, Eliezer, Jarib, and Gedaliah.
19 Isaan hundinuu niitota isaanii hiikuudhaaf waadaa ni galan; tokkoon tokkoon isaanii balleessaa ofii isaaniitiif bushaayee keessaa korbeessa hoolaa tokko aarsaa yakkaatiif ni dhiʼeessan.
They pledged to send their wives away, and for their guilt they presented a ram from the flock as a guilt offering.
20 Sanyii Imeer keessaa: Hanaanii fi Zebaadiyaa.
From the descendants of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah.
21 Sanyii Haariim keessaa: Maʼaseyaa, Eeliyaas, Shemaaʼiyaa, Yehiiʼeelii fi Uziyaa.
From the descendants of Harim: Maaseiah, Elijah, Shemaiah, Jehiel, and Uzziah.
22 Sanyii Phaashihuur keessaa: Eliiyooʼeenayi, Maʼaseyaa, Ishmaaʼeel, Naatnaaʼel, Yoozaabaadii fi Eleʼaasaa.
From the descendants of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah.
23 Lewwota keessaa immoo: Yoozaabaad, Shimeʼii, Qeelaayaa isa Qeliixaa jedhamu sana, Phetaayaa, Yihuudaa fi Eliiʼezer.
Among the Levites: Jozabad, Shimei, Kelaiah (that is, Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.
24 Faarfattoota keessaa: Eliyaashiib. Warra karra eegan keessaa: Shaluum, Telemii fi Uuri.
From the singers: Eliashib. From the gatekeepers: Shallum, Telem, and Uri.
25 Israaʼeloota kaan keessaa: Sanyii Phaarosh keessaa: Raamiyaa, Yeziyaa, Malkiyaa, Miyaamiin, Eleʼaazaar, Malkiyaa fi Benaayaa.
And among the other Israelites, from the descendants of Parosh: Ramiah, Izziah, Malchijah, Mijamin, Eleazar, Malchijah, and Benaiah.
26 Sanyii Eelaam keessaa: Mataaniyaa, Zakkaariyaas, Yehiiʼeel, Abdii, Yireemootii fi Eeliyaas.
From the descendants of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, Jehiel, Abdi, Jeremoth, and Elijah.
27 Sanyii Zaatuu keessaa: Eliiyooʼeenayi, Eliyaashiib, Mataaniyaa, Yireemooti, Zaabaadii fi Aziizaa.
From the descendants of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, Jeremoth, Zabad, and Aziza.
28 Sanyii Beebay keessaa: Yehohaanaan, Hanaaniyaa, Zaabayii fi Aatilaayi.
From the descendants of Bebai: Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai.
29 Sanyii Baanii keessaa: Meshulaam, Maluuk, Adaayaa, Yaasuub, Sheʼaalii fi Raamoot.
From the descendants of Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, Adaiah, Jashub, Sheal, and Jeremoth.
30 Sanyii Fahat Moʼaab keessaa: Adinaa, Kelaal, Benaayaa, Maʼaseyaa, Mataaniyaa, Bezaliʼeel, Binuuyii fi Minaasee.
From the descendants of Pahath-moab: Adna, Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, Binnui, and Manasseh.
31 Sanyii Haariim keessaa: Eliiʼezer, Yishiyaa, Malkiyaa, Shemaaʼiyaa, Simiʼoon,
From the descendants of Harim: Eliezer, Isshijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon,
32 Beniyaam, Maluukii fi Shemaariyaa.
Benjamin, Malluch, and Shemariah.
33 Sanyii Haashum keessaa: Matenaayi, Matataa, Zaabaadii, Eliiphelexi, Yereemaayi, Minaasee fi Shimeʼii.
From the descendants of Hashum: Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shimei.
34 Sanyii Baanii keessaa: Maʼadaay, Amraam, Uuʼeel,
From the descendants of Bani: Maadai, Amram, Uel,
35 Benaayaa, Beediyaa, Keluuhii,
Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhi,
36 Waaneyaa, Mereemooti, Eliyaashiib,
Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib,
37 Mataaniyaa, Matenaayii fi Yaʼasaawuu,
Mattaniah, Mattenai, and Jaasu.
38 Baanii, Binuuyii, Shimeʼii,
From the descendants of Binnui: Shimei,
39 Shelemiyaa, Naataan, Adaayaa,
Shelemiah, Nathan, Adaiah,
40 Maknaadebaayi, Shaashaayi, Shaaraayi,
Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai,
41 Azariʼeel, Shelemiyaa, Shemaariyaa,
Azarel, Shelemiah, Shemariah,
42 Shaluum, Amariyaa fi Yoosef.
Shallum, Amariah, and Joseph.
43 Sanyii Neboo keessaa: Yeʼiiʼeel, Matiitiyaa, Zaabaadii, Zebiinaa, Yaadaayi, Yooʼeelii fi Benaayaa.
And from the descendants of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai, Joel, and Benaiah.
44 Warri kunneen hundinuu dubartoota ormaa ni fuudhan; isaan keessaas tokko tokko niitota kanneen irraa ijoollee ni dhalchan.
All these men had married foreign women, and some of them had children by these wives.
