< Lallaba 4 >
1 Ani ammas ilaalee cunqursaa aduudhaa gaditti adeemsifamaa jiru hunda nan arge: Ani imimmaan cunqurfamtootaa nan arge; nama isaan jajjabeessu tokko illees hin qaban; humni gama cunqursitoota isaanii ture; isaan nama isaan jajjabeessu tokko illee hin qaban.
So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of [such as were] oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors [there was] power; but they had no comforter.
2 Anis akka warri duʼan, kanneen kanaan dura duʼan, jiraattota amma lubbuudhaan jiraatan caalan nan labse.
Wherefore I praised the dead which are already dead more than the living which are yet alive.
3 Garuu namni hamma ammaatti hin dhalatin kan hammina aduudhaa gaditti hojjetamu hin argin, lachan isaanii irra wayya.
Yea, better [is he] than both they, which hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.
4 Anis akka dadhabbiin hojii hundii fi milkaaʼuun hundi hinaaffaa namni ollaa isaa wajjin qabu irraa burqu nan arga. Kunis bubbee ariʼuu dha; faayidaas hin qabu.
Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This [is] also vanity and vexation of spirit.
5 Gowwaan harka isaa maratee taaʼa; foonuma ofii isaas nyaata.
The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh.
6 Dadhabbii fi bubbee ariʼuudhaan konyee lama argachuu irra nagaan konyee tokko argachuu wayya.
Better [is] an handful [with] quietness, than both the hands full [with] travail and vexation of spirit.
7 Ani amma illee waan faayidaa hin qabne tokko aduudhaa gaditti nan arge:
Then I returned, and I saw vanity under the sun.
8 Nama kophaa isaa jiraatu tokkotu jira; innis ilma yookaan obboleessa hin qabu ture. Yeroo hunda hojiitti dadhaba; taʼus iji isaa qabeenya isaa ilaalee quufe hin jedhu. Innis, “Ani eenyuuf jedheen dadhaba? Maaliifan gammachuus of laga?” jedhee gaafate. Kunis faayidaa hin qabu; hojii buʼaa hin qabnee dha!
There is one [alone], and [there is] not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet [is there] no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither [saith he], For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of good? This [is] also vanity, yea, it [is] a sore travail.
9 Isaan sababii hojii isaaniitiif gatii gaarii waan argataniif nama tokko irra nama lama wayya:
Two [are] better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.
10 Yoo inni tokko kufe, inni kaan ol isa qaba. Garuu namni kufee kan ol isa kaasu hin qabne garaa nama nyaata!
For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him [that is] alone when he falleth; for [he hath] not another to help him up.
11 Yoo namoonni lama wajjin ciisan itti hoʼa; nama tokko garuu akkamitti kophaa isaa itti hoʼuu dandaʼa?
Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm [alone]?
12 Namni tokko moʼatamuu dandaʼa; namoonni lama garuu of irraa deebisuu dandaʼu. Funyoon foʼaa sadiin foʼame dafee hin citu.
And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
13 Mootii dulloomaa fi gowwaa siʼachi gorsa hin fudhanne irra, dargaggeessa hiyyeessa ogeessa wayya.
Better [is] a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished.
14 Inni yoo hiyyumaan mootummaa sana keessatti dhalate iyyuu mana hidhaatii baʼee mootii taʼuu dandaʼaatii.
For out of prison he cometh to reign; whereas also [he that is] born in his kingdom becometh poor.
15 Ani akka namni aduudhaa gad jiraate hundi dargaggeessa mootii dhaalu sana duukaa buʼe nan arge.
I considered all the living which walk under the sun, with the second child that shall stand up in his stead.
16 Baayʼinni nama fuula isaanii dura jiruu hamma hin qabu ture. Warri duubaan dhufan garuu dargaggeessa dhaalu sanatti hin gammanne. Kun hundis bubbee ariʼuu dha; faayidaas hin qabu.
[There is] no end of all the people, [even] of all that have been before them: they also that come after shall not rejoice in him. Surely this also [is] vanity and vexation of spirit.
