Keessa Deebii 19

1 Yommuu Waaqayyo Waaqni kee saboota biyya isaanii siif kennu balleessutti, yommuu ati ariitee isaan baaftee magaalaawwanii fi manneen isaanii keessa qubattutti,

When Yahweh thy God, shall cut off the nations whose land Yahweh thy God is giving thee, —and thou shalt dispossess them, and dwell in their cities and in their houses,

2 walakkaa biyya Waaqayyo Waaqni kee akka ati dhaaltuuf siif kennutti ofii keetiif magaalaawwan sadii addaan baafadhu.

three cities, shalt thou set apart for thee, —in the midst of thy land which Yahweh thy God is giving thee to possess.

3 Akka namni nama ajjeese kam iyyuu itti baqatuuf daandiiwwan hojjedhuutii biyya Waaqayyo Waaqni kee akka dhaalaatti siif kennu iddoo sadiitti qoodi.

Thou shalt prepare for thee a way, and shalt divide into three parts the boundary of thy land which Yahweh thy God shall cause thee to inherit, —and it shall be that every manslayer shall flee thither.

4 Seerri waaʼee nama nama ajjeesee lubbuu isaa baafachuuf achitti baqatuu jechuunis kan utuu hammina itti hin yaadin akka tasaa nama ollaa isaa ajjeesuu tokko ilaalu kanaa dha.

And, this, is the case of the manslayer, who shall flee thither and live, —Whoso shall smite his neighbour unwittingly, he, not having hated him aforetime;

5 Namni tokko yoo muka murachuuf namicha ollaa isaa wajjin bosona seenee utuu muka muruuf qottoo isaa ol fudhatuu akkuma tasaa sibiilli irraa buqqaʼee namicha ollaa isaa sana dhaʼee ajjeese, namni sun magaalaawwan kanneen keessaa isa tokkotti baqatee lubbuu ofii isaa oolfachuu dandaʼa.

as when one entereth with his neighbour into a forest, to fell trees, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe, to cut down the tree, and the head flieth off from the handle, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die, he, shall flee into one of these cities, and live;

6 Yoo kanaa achii namni haaloo dhiigaa baasu tokko waan namichi nama ajjeese sun utuu duraan dursee hammina itti hin yaadin ollaa isaa ajjeeseef yoo ajjeefamuu hin qabaatin illee fagoo taʼu iyyuu inni aariidhaan duukaa buʼee qaqqabee isa ajjeesuu dandaʼa.

lest the blood redeemer pursue the manslayer because his heart is hot, and overtake him because the way is long, and he smite him so as to take away his life, —he not being worthy of death, seeing that he had not been hating him aforetime.

7 Sababiin ani akka ati magaalaa sadii ofii keetiif addaan baafattu si ajajeefis kanuma.

For this cause, am I commanding thee saying, —Three cities, shalt thou set apart for thee.

8 Yoo Waaqayyo Waaqni kee akkuma abbootii keetiif kakuudhaan waadaa gale sanatti biyya kee siif balʼisee biyya waadaa isaaniif gale sana guutummaatti siif kenne,

But, if Yahweh thy God should enlarge thy bounds, as he sware unto thy fathers, —and should give thee all the land, which he spake of giving unto thy fathers;

9 ati Waaqayyoon Waaqa kee akka jaallachuu fi yeroo hunda karaa isaa irra akka deemtuuf ajajawwan ani harʼa siif kennu hunda akka gaariitti yoo eegde, magaalaawwan kanneen irratti magaalaawwan sadii ni dabalatta.

because thou dost observe all this commandment to do it which I am commanding thee to-day, to love Yahweh thy God and to walk in his paths all the days, then shalt thou add unto thee yet three cities, unto these three;

10 Akka lafa kee kan Waaqayyo Waaqni kee dhaala godhee siif kennu keessatti dhiigni nama qulqulluu hin dhangalaanee fi atis yakka dhiiga dhangalaasuutti akka hin gaafatamneef waan kana godhi.

that innocent blood may not be shed in the midst of thy land, which Yahweh thy God is giving unto thee as an inheritance, —and so shed-blood be upon thee.

11 Garuu yoo namni tokko nama ollaa isaa jibbee riphee eeggachuudhaan miidhaa irraan gaʼee isa ajjeesee ergasii immoo magaalaawwan kanneen keessaa tokkotti baqate,

But, when any man shall be hating his neighbour, and shall lie in wait for him and rise up against him, and smite him so as to take away his life that he dieth, —and shall then flee into one of these cities,

12 maanguddoonni magaalaa inni keessa jiraachaa turee nama itti erganii magaalaa inni itti baqate sanaa isa haa fichisiisan; akka inni ajjeesuufis nama haaloo dhiigaa baʼutti dabarsanii isa haa kennan.

then shall the elders of his city send and fetch him from thence, —and deliver him into the hand of the blood redeemer that he die;

13 Garaa hin laafiniif; akka siif toluuf yakka dhangalaafama dhiiga nama qulqulluu Israaʼel keessaa balleessi.

thine eye shall not look with pity upon him, —so shall thou consume the shedding of innocent blood out of Israel and it shall go well with thee.

14 Biyya Waaqayyo Waaqni kee akka dhaaltuuf siif kennu keessatti dhaala dabarfamee siif kennamu irratti dhagaa mallattoo daangaa ollaa keetii kan namoonni durii dhaaban hin hiiqsin.

Thou shalt not move back the boundary of thy neighbour, by which they set bounds at first, —in thine inheritance which thou shall receive in the land which Yahweh thy God is giving thee to possess.

15 Nama yakka yookaan seera cabsuu kamiin iyyuu himatame tokkotti muruuf dhuga baʼumsi nama tokkoo gaʼaa miti. Dubbiin sun dhuga baatota lamaan yookaan sadiin mirkaneeffamuu qaba.

One witness, shall not rise up, against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, with regard to any sin that he may commit, —at the mouth of two witnesses or at the mouth of three witnesses, must a matter be establish.

16 Yoo dhuga baatuun jalʼaan tokko sobaan nama tokkotti dhugaa baʼe,

When there shall rise up a wrongful witness against a man, —to answer against him perversely,

17 namoonni wal dhaban lamaan fuula Waaqayyoo duratti lubootaa fi abbootii murtii kanneen yeroo sanatti hojii irra jiran dura haa dhaabatan.

then shall the two men who are at variance stand before Yahweh, —before the priests and the judges who shall be in those days;

18 Abbootiin murtiis dubbicha gad fageessanii haa qoran; yoo dhuga baatuun sun sobduu taʼuun isaa mirkanaaʼee obboleessa isaa irratti sobaan dhugaa baʼe,

and the judges shall make diligent inquisition, —and lo! if the witness be, a false witness and, falsely, have answered against his brother,

19 waanuma inni obboleessa isaa gochuu yaade sana isa godhaa. Ati hamaa of keessaa baasuu qabda.

then shall ye do unto him as he had thought to de unto his brother, —so shalt thou consume the wicked thing out of thy midst;

20 Namoonni hafan waan kana dhagaʼanii ni sodaatu; wanni hamaan akkasiis lammata gidduu keetti hin hojjetamu.

and, they who remain shall hear and fear, —and not go on to do again according to this wicked thing, in thy midst:

21 Ati gara laafina tokko iyyuu hin argisiisin; qooda lubbuu lubbuun, qooda ijaa ijji, qooda ilkaanii ilkaan, qooda harkaa harki, qooda miillaas miilli baafamuu qaba.

neither shall thine eye pity, —life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
