1 Bara sana keessa yommuu baayʼinni barattootaa dabalamaa deemetti Yihuudoonni Giriikota keessa jiraatan Ibrootatti guunguman; haadhonni hiyyeessaa Yihuudootaa nyaata guyyaa guyyaan hiramu keessatti hacuucamanii turaniitii.
Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, a complaint arose from the Hellenists against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily service.
2 Kanaaf ergamoonni kudha lamaan barattoota hunda walitti qabanii akkana jedhaniin; “Maaddii tajaajiluuf jennee dubbii Waaqaa barsiisuu dhiisuun nuuf qajeelaa miti.
So the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, "It is not appropriate for us to forsake the word of God and serve tables.
3 Kanaaf yaa obboloota isin namoota maqaa gaarii qaban kanneen Hafuura Qulqulluu fi ogummaan guutaman torba gidduu keessanii filadhaa. Nus itti gaafatama kana isaanitti kenninee,
Therefore select from among you, brothers, seven men of good report, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
4 Waaqa kadhachuu fi dubbii isaa barsiisuutti jabaannaa.”
But we will continue steadfastly in prayer and in the ministry of the word."
5 Wanni isaan jedhanis tuuta sana hunda gammachiise. Isaanis Isxifaanos namicha amantii fi Hafuura Qulqulluudhaan guutame tokko, akkasumas Fiiliphoosii fi Phirookoroosin, Niiqaaroonaa fi Xiimoonaa, Pharmeenaa fi Niqoolaas namicha Anxookiiyaa isa amantii Yihuudootaatti gale sana filatan.
And these words pleased the whole gathering. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch;

whom they set before the apostles. When they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
7 Dubbiin Waaqaa ni babalʼate; baayʼinni barattootaas Yerusaalem keessatti akka malee dabalame; luboonni hedduun amantii kanaaf ajajaman.
The word of God increased and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem; and a large group of the priests were obedient to the faith.
8 Isxifaanos ayyaanaa fi humna Waaqaatiin guutamee dinqii fi mallattoo gurguddaa namoota gidduutti hojjette.
Stephen, full of grace and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people.
9 Miseensonni mana sagadaa warra, “Namoota bilisooman” jedhamanii, jechuunis Yihuudoonni Qareenaa fi Iskindiriyaadhaa dhufan akkasumas Yihuudoonni Kiilqiyaa fi Asiyaadhaa dhufan tokko tokko Isxifaanosiin mormuu jalqaban.
But some of those who were of the synagogue called "The Libertines," and of the Cyrenians, of the Alexandrians, and of those of Cilicia and Asia arose, disputing with Stephen.

They weren't able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.

Then they secretly induced men to say, "We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God."
12 Isaanis uummata, maanguddootaa fi barsiistota seeraa kakaasan. Isxifaanosiinis qabanii fuula waldaa Yihuudootaa duratti isa dhiʼeessan.
They stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and came against him and seized him, and brought him in to the council,
13 Dhuga baatota sobduus qopheeffatan; isaanis akkana jedhan; “Namichi kun iddoo qulqulluu kanaa fi seeraan mormuu takkumaa hin dhiifne.
and set up false witnesses who said, "This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the Law.
14 Nu isaa, ‘Yesuus namni Naazreeti kun iddoo kana ni diiga; seera Museen nuu kennes ni geeddara’ jedhu dhageenyeerra.”
For we have heard him say that this Jesus the Nazorean will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us."
15 Warri waldaa sana keessa turan hundi ija babaasanii Isxifaanosin ilaalanii akka fuuli isaa akkuma fuula ergamaa Waaqaa taʼe argan.
All who sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face like it was the face of an angel.
