Agrippa then said to Paul, “You are free to speak on your own behalf.” With a sweep of his arm, Paul began his defense.
2 “Yaa Agriiphaa Mooticha, ani sababii waan Yihuudoonni ittiin na himatan hunda falmachuudhaaf jedhee harʼa fuula kee dura dhaabadhuuf akka ayyaantuu tokkoottin of ilaala.
“I am delighted, King Agrippa, to make my defense before you today regarding everything I am accused of by the Jews,
3 Kunis waan ati duudhaa fi wal mormii Yihuudootaa hunda keessa beektuufii dha. Kanaafuu ani akka ati obsaan na dhaggeeffattu sin kadhadha.
particularly because you are an expert in all Jewish issues and customs. I beg your patient indulgence as you listen to what I have to say.
4 “Ani ijoollummaa kootii jalqabee saba koo keessatti, Yerusaalem keessattis akkamitti akka jiraachaa ture Yihuudoonni hundinuu ni beeku.
All the Jews know my life story—from my earliest days beginning in my own country and then in Jerusalem.
5 Akka ani akka Fariisicha tokkootti akkuma sirna garee akka malee amantaa keenyatti cichu sanaatti jiraadhe isaanuu bara dheeraa waan na beekaniif, yoo fedhii qabaatan dhugaa baʼuu ni dandaʼu.
They have known me for a long time and can verify, if they choose to, that I have followed the religious school that observes our faith in the strictest way—I lived as a Pharisee.
6 Ammas ani waadaa Waaqni abbootii keenyaaf gale sana waan abdadhuuf qoratamuuf dhiʼaadheen as jira.
Now I am standing here to be judged regarding the promised hope God gave to our fathers
7 Waadaan kun isuma gosoonni keenya kudha lamaan halkanii guyyaa Waaqa tajaajiluutti jabaatanii raawwatamuu isaa arguu hawwan sanaa dha. Yaa Agriiphaa Mooticha, Yihuudoonnis sababuma abdii kanaatiif na himachaa jiru.
that our twelve tribes hoped to receive as they continually dedicated themselves in God's service. Yes, it's because of this hope that I'm accused by the Jews, Your Majesty!
8 Akka Waaqni warra duʼan duʼaa kaasu isin maaliif akka waan hin amanamne tokkootti herregdu?
Why should any of you think it's unbelievable that God raises the dead?
9 “Ani mataan koo iyyuu maqaa Yesuus nama Naazreetiitiin mormuudhaaf akka waan dandaʼamu hunda gochuu qabu nan amana ture.
Previously I was sincerely convinced I should do as much as I could to oppose the name of Jesus of Nazareth.
10 Wanni ani Yerusaalem keessatti hojjedhes kanuma; ani taayitaa luboota hangafoota irraa argadheen qulqulloota baayʼee mana hidhaatti naquu qofa utuu hin taʼin yeroo isaan ajjeefaman iyyuu dubbicha irratti walii galaan ture.
This is what I did in Jerusalem. I threw many of the believers in prison, having been given authority to do this by the chief priests. When they were sentenced to death I cast my vote against them.
11 Anis akka isaan adabamaniif yeroo baayʼee mana sagadaa tokko irraa gara mana sagadaa biraatti darbaa, akka isaan amantii isaanii arrabsaniifis isaan dirqisiisaan ture. Ani waan akka malee isaanitti aaraa tureef hamma magaalaawwan biyya alaatti illee deemee isaan ariʼachaan ture.
I had them punished in all the synagogues, trying to make them recant. I was so furiously opposed to them that I went to cities outside our country to persecute them.
12 “Anis gaafa tokko kanumaaf jedhee taayitaa fi ergama luboota hangafoota biraa fudhadhee utuun Damaasqoo deemaa jiruu,
That's why one day I was on my way to Damascus with the authority and orders from the chief priests.
13 yaa mooticha, ani utuman karaa deemaa jiruu gara saafaatti ifa ifa aduu caalaa ibsu tokko isaa samii irraa naannoo koottii fi naannoo warra na wajjin deemaniitti ibsu arge.
At about noon as I was on my way, Your Majesty, I saw a light from heaven that blazed brighter than the sun. It shone around me and those who were traveling with me.
14 Hundi keenya lafatti kukkufne; anis sagalee afaan Ibraayisxiitiin ‘Yaa Saaʼol, yaa Saaʼol, ati maaliif na ariʼatta? Arfii wayii dhiituun suma miidha’ naan jedhu tokkon dhagaʼe.
All of us fell to the ground. Then I heard a voice speaking to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It's hard for you to fight against me!’
15 “Anis, ‘Yaa Gooftaa ati Eenyu?’ jedheen gaafadhe. “Gooftaanis deebisee akkana jedhe; ‘Ani Yesuus isa ati ariʼattuu dha.
‘Who are you, Lord?’ I asked. ‘I am Jesus, the one you're persecuting,’ the Lord replied.
16 Amma kaʼii miilla keetiin dhaabadhu. Ani akka ati tajaajilaa koo taatee, waaʼee koos waan argitee fi waan ani sitti mulʼisuuf jiru dhugaa baatuuf si muuduuf jedhee sitti mulʼadheera.
‘But pick yourself up and get to your feet. The reason why I've appeared to you is to appoint you as my servant, to be a witness for me, telling others how you have seen me and everything I will reveal to you.
17 Ani saba keetii fi Namoota Ormaa kanneen gara isaaniitti si ergu jalaa sin baasa.
I will save you from your own people and from the foreigners. I am sending you to them
18 Atis ija isaanii bantee dukkana keessaa gara ifaatti, humna Seexanaa jalaas gara Waaqaatti isaan deebifta; kunis akka isaan dhiifama cubbuu argatanii fi akka isaan warra natti amanuun qulqullaaʼan gidduutti dhaala argataniif.’
to open their eyes so they can turn from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to God, and so that they can receive forgiveness for their sins and a place with those who are set right as they trust in me.’
19 “Kanaafuu yaa Agriiphaa Mooticha, ani mulʼata samii irraa dhufe sanaaf ajajamuu hin didne.
Clearly, King Agrippa, I could not disobey this vision from heaven.
20 Anis akka isaan qalbii jijjiirratanii gara Waaqaatti deebiʼaniif, qalbii jijjiirrachuu isaaniis akka hojiidhaan mirkaneessaniif jalqabatti warra Damaasqootti, warra Yerusaalemiitti, warra Yihuudaa guutuutti akkasumas Namoota Ormaatti lallabeera.
First in Damascus, then in Jerusalem, and then all over Judea and also to the foreigners I shared the message of repentance: how they should turn to God, demonstrating their repentance through their actions.
21 Sababiin Yihuudoonni mana qulqullummaa keessatti na qabanii na ajjeesuu yaalaniifis kanuma.
That's why the Jews seized me in the Temple and tried to kill me.
22 Ani garuu hamma guyyaa harʼaatti gargaarsa Waaqaa qaba; kanaafuu ani dhaabadhee xinnaa guddaaf dhugaa baʼaan jira. Ani waan raajonnii fi Museen ‘Ni taʼa’ jedhanii dubbataniin alatti waan tokko illee hin dubbadhu.
God has looked after me so I can stand here today as a witness to everyone, both to ordinary people and to those who are important. I am only repeating what Moses and the prophets said would happen—
23 Kunis akka Kiristoos dhiphachuu qabu, akka inni warra duʼan keessaa kaʼuudhaan kan jalqabaa taʼee saba isaatii fi Namoota Ormaatiif ifa labsuu dha.”
how the Messiah had to suffer, and that by being the first to rise from the dead he would announce the light of God's salvation to both Jews and foreigners.”
24 Utuma Phaawulos akkasitti falmachaa jiruu Fesxoos sagalee guddaan, “Phaawulos, ati maraatteerta! Barumsi kee guddaan sun si maraachisaa jira” jedheen.
Festus interrupted Paul as he made his defense, shouting out, “Paul, you've gone mad! All your knowledge is driving you insane!”
25 Phaawulosis akkana jedhee deebise; “Yaa Fesxoos kabajamaa, ani hin maraanne; wanni ani dubbachaa jirus dhugaa dha; sirrii dhas.
“I'm not mad, Festus your Excellency,” Paul replied. “What I am saying is true and makes sense.
26 Sababii mootichi waan kana beekuuf, ani ifatti baasee isatti himuu nan dandaʼa. Sababii wanni kun suuqatti hin hojjetaminiif ani akka waan kana keessaa tokko iyyuu isa duraa hin dhokatin nan amana.
The king recognizes this, and I'm explaining it very clearly. I am sure that he is aware of what's been happening, because none of this took place as if it were hidden in a corner.
27 Yaa Agriiphaa Mooticha, ati raajota ni amantaa? Akka ati amantu ani iyyuu beeka.”
King Agrippa, do you believe what the prophets said? I'm sure you do!”
28 Agriiphaanis Phaawulosiin, “Ati yeruma gabaabaa keessatti Kiristaana na gochuu yaaddaa?” jedhe.
“Do you think you can convince me to become a Christian so quickly?” Agrippa asked Paul.
29 Phaawulosis deebisee, “Yeroo gabaabaattis taʼu dheeraatti, si qofa utuu hin taʼin akka warri na dhagaʼaa jiran hundinuu foncaa kanaan hidhamuu malee akkuma koo akka taʼan ani Waaqa nan kadhadha” jedhe.
“Whether it takes a short time or a long time doesn't matter,” Paul answered. “But my prayer to God is that not just you, but everybody listening to me today would become like me—except for these chains!”
30 Kana irratti mootichi, bulchaanii fi Barniiqeen, akkasumas warri isaan wajjin tataaʼaa turan ol kaʼan.
The king stood up, along with the governor and Bernice, and everyone who had been sitting with them.
31 Isaanis yeroo gad baʼanitti, “Namichi kun waan duʼaan yookaan hidhaan isa gaʼu tokko illee hin hojjenne” wajjin jedhan.
They conferred together after they had left. “This man hasn't done anything that deserves death or imprisonment,” they concluded.
32 Agriiphaanis Fesxoosiin, “Namichi kun utuu Qeesaaritti ol iyyachuu baatee silaa ni hiikama ture” jedhe.
Agrippa told Festus, “He could have been freed if he hadn't appealed to Caesar.”
