< Hojii 25 >
1 Fesxoosis biyya sana gaʼee guyyaa sadii booddee Qiisaariyaadhaa Yerusaalemitti ol baʼe;
Festus therefore having come into the province, after three days went up from Caesarea to Jerusalem.
2 achittis luboonni hangafoonnii fi dura buʼoonni Yihuudootaa fuula isaa duratti dhiʼaatanii himata Phaawulos irraa qaban dhiʼeeffatan.
And the chief priests and the leaders of the Jews brought a complaint before him against Paul, and besought him,
3 Isaanis waan karaatti riphanii Phaawulosin ajjeesuuf qophaaʼaa turaniif akka Fesxoos isaan deeggaree nama ergee gara Yerusaalem isa fichisiisu kadhatan.
asking for themselves a favor against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, intending to place men in wait to kill him on the road.
4 Fesxoos immoo akkana jedhee deebise; “Phaawulos Qiisaariyaatti eegamaa jira; ani mataan koo iyyuu dhiʼeenyatti achi nan dhaqa.
But Festus answered that Paul was in custody at Caesarea, and that he himself was going thither shortly.
5 Kanaafuu abbootii taayitaa keessan keessaa tokko tokko na wajjin deemanii yoo namichi sun balleessaa wayii qabaate achitti isa haa himatan.”
Let those therefore, said he, who have authority among you, go down with me and accuse this man, if he is guilty of anything.
6 Innis erga guyyaa saddeeti yookaan kudhan isaan bira bubbulee booddee Qiisaariyaatti gad buʼe; guyyaa itti aanuttis barcuma murtii irra taaʼee akka Phaawulos fuula isaa duratti dhiʼeeffamu ajaje.
And having tarried among them not more than eight or ten days, he went down to Caesarea; and on the morrow, sitting on the judgment-seat, ordered Paul to be brought.
7 Yommuu Phaawulos dhiʼaatettis Yihuudoonni Yerusaalemii gad buʼan sun isatti naannaʼanii dhaabachuun himata ciccimaa hedduu isa irratti dhiʼeessan; garuu amansiisuu hin dandeenye.
And when he had come, the Jews who came down from Jerusalem stood around, bringing many and heavy charges which they could not prove;
8 Phaawulosis, “Ani seera Yihuudootaa irratti yookaan mana qulqullummaa irratti yookaan Qeesaar irratti yakka tokko illee hin hojjenne” jedhee falmate.
while Paul said in his defence, Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I committed any offence.
9 Fesxoosis Yihuudoota gammachiisuuf jedhee Phaawulosiin, “Ati Yerusaalemitti ol baatee himata kana irratti fuula koo duratti qoratamuu ni feetaa?” jedhe.
But Festus, wishing to gain favor with the Jews, answered Paul and said, Art thou willing to go up to Jerusalem, and there be tried on these charges before me?
10 Phaawulos garuu akkana jedhee deebise; “Ani amma barcuma murtii Qeesaar dura, iddoo itti qoratamuu qabu dhaabadheen jira; akkuma ati mataan kee iyyuu sirriitti beektu ani yakka tokko illee Yihuudoota irratti hin hojjenne.
But Paul said, I stand at the judgment-seat of Caesar, where I ought to be tried. To the Jews I have done no wrong, as thou also very well knowest.
11 Taʼus ani utuu balleessaa duʼa natti mursiisu tokko illee hojjedhee silaa duʼa jalaa baʼuuf hin carraaqu; garuu yoo wanni Yihuudoonni kunneen ittiin na himatan dhugaa hin taʼin, namni tokko iyyuu dabarsee harka isaaniitti na kennuuf mirga hin qabu. Ani Qeesaaritti oli nan iyyadha!”
If indeed I am an offender, and have done anything deserving death, I refuse not to die; but if there be nothing in the charges which they bring against me, no man can give me up to them. I appeal to Caesar.
12 Fesxoosis erga gorsitoota isaa wajjin mariʼatee booddee, “Ati Qeesaaritti ol iyyatteerta; gara Qeesaar ni dhaqxa!” jedhe.
Then Festus having conferred with the council, answered, Thou hast appealed to Caesar; to Caesar shalt thou go.
13 Bultii muraasa booddee Agriiphaa mootichii fi Barniiqeen Fesxoos simachuuf Qiisaariyaa dhaqan.
And after some days Agrippa the king and Bernice came to Caesarea to greet Festus.
14 Fesxoosis isaan guyyaa hedduu achi bubbullaan akkana jedhee waaʼee himata Phaawulos mooticha wajjin dubbate; “Namichi Feeliksi mana hidhaa keessatti dhiisee deeme tokko as jira.
And while they were making a stay of some days there, Festus laid the case of Paul before the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix,
15 Yeroo ani Yerusaalem turetti luboonni hangafoonnii fi maanguddoonni Yihuudootaa isa himatanii akka itti muramu kadhatan.
against whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews brought a complaint, asking for judgment against him.
16 “Anis akka namni kam iyyuu akka seera biyya Roomaatti utuu fuula himattoota isaa duratti dhiʼaatee himata sana mormachuuf carraa hin argatin dabarfamee kennamuu hin qabne isaanitti himeera.
To whom I answered, It is not the custom of the Romans to give up any man on a charge, before the accused hath the accusers face to face, and hath opportunity to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.
17 Kanaafuu ani yommuu isaan na wajjin as dhufanitti barcuma murtii irra taaʼeen akka namicha natti fidan ajaje malee dubbii sana lafa irra hin harkifne.
When therefore they had come together here, without any delay I sat on the judgment-seat on the day after, and ordered the man to be brought forward.
18 Himattoonni isaas yommuu dubbachuuf kaʼanitti yakka ani ittiin isa himatu jedhee eege keessaa tokko illee isa irratti hin dhiʼeessine.
And his accusers standing around him brought no accusation of such things as I had conjectured,
19 Garuu isaan waaʼee amantaa isaaniitii fi waaʼee namicha duʼe kan Yesuus jedhamu isa Phaawulos immoo, ‘Inni jiraataa dha’ jedhee falmuu tokkoo irratti wal dhaban.
but had against him certain questions of their own religion, and of one Jesus that was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.
20 Anis akka itti dubbii sana qoradhu wallaale; kanaaf inni Yerusaalem dhaqee himata kana irratti qoratamuuf fedhii qabuu fi akka inni hin qabne isa gaafadhe.
And I being at a loss about such questions, asked him if he was willing to go to Jerusalem and there be put on trial for these matters.
21 Garuu yommuu Phaawulos murtii Awugisxoos Qeesaar argachuuf jedhee turfamuu kadhatetti ani akka inni hamma ani Qeesaaritti isa ergutti eegamu nan ajaje.”
But Paul having appealed to be kept in custody for the judgment of Augustus, I ordered him to be kept till I should send him up to Caesar.
22 Agriiphaanis Fesxoosiin, “Ani mataan koo namicha kana dhagaʼuu nan barbaada” jedhe. Inni immoo deebisee, “Bori isa dhageessa” jedheen.
Then Agrippa said to Festus, I should like to hear the man myself. Tomorrow, said he, thou shalt hear him.
23 Guyyaa itti aanuttis Agriiphaa fi Barniiqeen ulfina guddaan dhufanii Ajajjuuwwan kumaatii fi gurguddoota magaalaa wajjin galma wal gaʼii seenan. Fesxoos ajajnaan Phaawulosin ol galchan.
Accordingly on the morrow Agrippa and Bernice came with great pomp, and entered into the place of hearing, with the chief captains and principal men of the city, and at the order of Festus Paul was brought forward.
24 Fesxoosis akkana jedhe; “Yaa Agriiphaa mooticha, warri nu wajjin as jirtan hundinuus isin namicha kana ni argitu! Hawaasni Yihuudootaa guutummaatti, ‘Namichi kun siʼachi jiraachuu hin qabu’ jedhanii waaʼee isaa Yerusaalemittii fi as Qiisaariyaatti iyyanii na kadhatan.
And Festus said: King Agrippa, and all men who are here present with us! Ye see this man about whom the whole multitude of the Jews applied to me both at Jerusalem and here, crying out that he ought no longer to live.
25 Ani waan duʼaan isa gaʼu kan inni hojjete tokko illee hin argine; ani garuu sababii inni Awugisxoositti ol iyyateef gara Roomaatti isa erguu nan murteesse.
But having found that he had done nothing deserving death, and he himself having appealed to Augustus, I determined to send him;
26 Ani waaʼee namicha kanaa waan ifatti baʼe kan gooftaa kootiif barreessu tokko illee hin qabu; kanaafuu ani erga isa qorannee booddee akka waan barreessu argadhuuf jedhee fuula hunda keessanii duratti, keessumattuu yaa Agriiphaa mooticha, fuula kee duratti isa dhiʼeesseera.
and as I have nothing certain to write about him to the emperor, I have brought him forward before you, and specially before thee, king Agrippa, that when the examination hath been made, I may have something to write.
27 Ani nama hidhame tokko utuu waan inni ittiin himatame ifatti hin baasin ol dabarsuu qajeela hin seʼuutii.”
For it seemeth to me unreasonable to send a prisoner and not signify the charges against him;
