1 Guyyaa shan booddee Anaaniyaas lubni ol aanaan maanguddoota tokko tokkoo fi abukaattoo Xerxuloos jedhamu tokko wajjin Qiisaariyaatti gad buʼe; isaanis waan ittiin Phaawulosin himatan bulchaa duratti dhiʼeeffatan.
Five days after this, Ananias the High Priest came down to Caesarea with a number of Elders and a pleader called Tertullus. They stated to the Governor the case against Paul.
2 Yommuu Phaawulos waamamee ol galetti, Xerxuloos akkana jedhee himata isaa Feeliksi duratti dhiʼeeffate; “Yaa Feeliksi kabajamaa, nu bara kee keessa yeroo dheeraa nagaan jiraanneera; ogummaan kees saba kanaaf geeddarama fideera.
So Paul was sent for, and Tertullus began to impeach him as follows: "Indebted as we are," he said, "to you, most noble Felix, for the perfect peace which we enjoy, and for reforms which your wisdom has introduced to this nation,
3 Yaa Feeliksi kabajamaa, nu waan kana karaa hundumaa fi iddoo hundatti galata guddaadhaan ni fudhanna.
in every instance and in every place we accept them with profound gratitude.
4 Garuu ani akka hammana irra si hin dadhabsiifneef akka ati gabaabumatti gara laafinaan nu dhageessu sin kadhadha.
But--not to detain you too long--I beg you in your forbearance to listen to a brief statement from us.
5 “Nu akka namichi kun dhukkuba hamaa taʼee Yihuudoota addunyaa guutuu irra jiran hunda keessatti goolii kaasaa jiru argineerra. Inni hoogganaa garee Naazirootaa ti.
For we have found this man Paul a source of mischief and a disturber of the peace among all the Jews throughout the Empire, and a ringleader in the heresy of the Nazarenes.
6 Inni mana qulqullummaa iyyuu xureessuu yaaleera; nu immoo akka seera keenyaatti itti muruuf jennee isa qabne. [
He even attempted to profane the Temple, but we arrested him.
7 Garuu Luusiyoos ajajaan kumaa sun dhufee humna guddaan harka keenya keessaa isa baase; akka himattoonni isaa fuula kee duratti dhiʼaatanis ni ajaje.]
8 Ati mataan kee iyyuu isa qoruudhaan waaʼee waan nu isa himannu kanaa hunda beekuu ni dandeessa.”
You, however, by examining him, will yourself be able to learn the truth as to all this which we allege against him."
9 Yihuudoonnis akka dubbiin kun dhugaa taʼe mirkaneessanii himata sana deeggaran.
The Jews also joined in the charge, maintaining that these were facts.
10 Phaawulosis yommuu bulchaan sun akka inni dubbatuuf harkaan mallattoo kenneefitti akkana jedhee deebii kenne; “Ani waan akka ati waggoota hedduuf abbaa murtii saba kanaa taate beekuuf falmii koo gammachuudhaan nan dhiʼeeffadha.
Then, at a sign from the Governor, Paul answered, "Knowing, Sir, that for many years you have administered justice to this nation, I cheerfully make my defence.
11 Akkuma ati rakkoo malee mirkaneeffachuu dandeessu ani waaqeffachuuf jedhee Yerusaalemitti ol baʼuun koo guyyaa kudha lama hin caalu.
For you have it in your power to ascertain that it is not more than twelve days ago that I went up to worship in Jerusalem;
12 Warri na himatan kun anaa mana qulqullummaa keessatti yookaan manneen sagadaa keessatti yookaan magaalaa keessatti nama tokkoon illee falmu yookaan uummata kakaasu na hin arganne.
and that neither in the Temple nor in the synagogues, nor anywhere in the city, did they find me disputing with any opponent or collecting a crowd about me.
13 Isaan waan amma ittiin na himachaa jiran kanas siif mirkaneessuu hin dandaʼan.
Nor can they prove the charges which they are now bringing against me.
14 Taʼus ani akka nama karaa isaan garee mormitootaa jedhaniin sana duukaa buʼu tokkootti akka Waaqa abbootii keenyaa waaqeffadhu fuula kee duratti nan amana. Waan seera Museetiin walii galuu fi waan kitaabota raajotaa keessatti barreeffame hundas nan amana.
But this I confess to you--that in the way which they style a heresy, I worship the God of our forefathers, believing everything that is taught in the Law or is written in the Prophets,
15 Anis akkuma jara kanaa akka duʼaa kaʼuun qajeeltotaatii fi hamootaa jiraatu Waaqa nan abdadha.
and having a hope directed towards God, which my accusers themselves also entertain, that before long there will be a resurrection both of the righteous and the unrighteous.
16 Kanaafuu ani akka yeroo hunda Waaqaa fi nama duratti yaada qulqulluu qabaadhu nan tattaaffadha.
This too is my own earnest endeavour--always to have a clear conscience in relation to God and man.
17 “Anis bara baayʼee hiyyeeyyii saba kootiitiif gargaarsa kennuuf, Waaqaafis aarsaa dhiʼeessuuf jedhee Yerusaalem dhufe.
"Now after an interval of several years I came to bring alms to my nation, and to offer sacrifices.
18 Yeroo ani waan kana hojjechaa turettis isaan anaa qulqullaaʼee jiru mana qulqullummaa keessatti na argan. Tuunni tokko iyyuu na bira hin turre; anis goolii keessatti hin hirmaanne.
While I was busy about these, they found me in the Temple purified, with no crowd around me and no uproar; but there were certain Jews from the province of Asia.
19 Garuu Yihuudoonni biyya Asiyaa kanneen yoo waan ittiin na himatan tokko illee narraa qabaatan si duratti as dhiʼaatanii na himachuu malan tokko tokko jiru.
They ought to have been here before you, and to have been my prosecutors, if they have any charge to bring against me.
20 Yookaan warri as jiran kunneen yakka yeroo ani fuula Waldaa Yihuudootaa dura dhaabadhe sana narratti argan haa himan;
Or let these men themselves say what misdemeanour they found me guilty of when I stood before the Sanhedrin,
21 waan ani yeroo fuula isaanii dura dhaabadhe sana iyyee, ‘Ani harʼa waaʼee duʼaa kaʼuu warra duʼanii irratti qoramuuf jedhee fuula keessan dura dhaabadheera’ jedhe tokkicha sana malee yoo jiraate haa himan.”
unless it was in that one expression which I made use of when I shouted out as I stood among them, "'The resurrection of the dead is the thing about which I am on my trial before you to-day.'"
22 Feeliksi garuu waan waaʼee Karaa sanaa sirriitti beekuuf, “Ani gaafa Liisiiyaas ajajaan kumaa sun dhufutti dubbii keessan nan murteessa” jedhee yeroo biraatti dabarse.
At this point Felix, who was fairly well informed about the new faith, adjourned the trial, saying to the Jews, "When the Tribune Lysias comes down, I will enter carefully into the matter."
23 Innis akka ajajaan dhibbaa sun Phaawulosin eegumsa jala tursu, garuu akka haala isaa itti furuu fi akka michoonni isaas waan isa barbaachisu kam iyyuu isaaf dhiʼeessan eeyyamuuf ajaje.
And he gave orders to the Captain that Paul was to be kept in custody, but be treated with indulgence, and that his personal friends were not to be prevented from showing him kindness.
24 Feeliksis bultii muraasa booddee niitii isaa Diruusiilaa ishee Yihuudii turte wajjin dhufe; innis Phaawulosin waamsisee isaa waaʼee Kiristoos Yesuusitti amanuu dubbatu dhaggeeffate.
Not long after this, Felix came with Drusilla his wife, a Jewess, and sending for Paul, listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus.
25 Yommuu Phaawulos waaʼee qajeelummaa, waaʼee of qabuutii fi waaʼee murtii kan dhufuuf jiru sanaa dubbatetti Feeliksi sodaatee, “Ammaaf ni gaʼaatii deemi! Yommuu naa mijaaʼutti anuu sin waamsisaatii” jedhe.
But when he dealt with the subjects of justice, self-control, and the judgement which was soon to come, Felix became alarmed and said, "For the present leave me, and when I can find a convenient opportunity I will send for you."
26 Yeroodhuma sanattis inni akka waan Phaawulos mattaʼaa isaaf kennuutti waan abdachaa tureef ammuma amma waamsisee isa wajjin haasaʼaa ture.
At the same time he hoped that Paul would give him money; and for this reason he sent for him the oftener to converse with him.
27 Phoorqiyoos Fesxoos erga waggaan lama darbee booddee iddoo Feeliksi qabate; Feeliksis waan Yihuudoota gammachiisuu barbaadeef Phaawulosin manuma hidhaatti dhiise.
But after the lapse of fully two years Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus; and being desirous of gratifying the Jews, Felix left Paul still in prison.
