1 Waldaa kiristaanaa Anxookiiyaa keessa Raajotaa fi barsiistotatu ture; isaanis Barnaabaas, Simiʼoon isa Niiger jedhamu, Luukiyoos nama Qareenaa, Maanaaʼen isa Heroodis bulchaa sana wajjin guddatee fi Saaʼol faʼa.
Among the members of the church at Antioch there were several prophets and teachers – Barnabas, Simeon who was known by the name of ‘Black’, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, foster-brother of Prince Herod, and Saul.
2 Utuu isaan Gooftaa tajaajilaa, soomaas jiranuu Hafuurri Qulqulluun, “Barnaabaasii fi Saaʼolin hojii ani itti isaan waammadheef naa filaa” jedhe.
While they were engaged in the worship of the Lord and were fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul, for the work to which I have called them.”
3 Kanaaf isaan erga soomanii kadhatanii booddee harka isaanii jara irra kaaʼanii isaan ergan.
Accordingly, after fasting and prayer, they placed their hands on them and dismissed them.
4 Isaan lachuu Hafuura Qulqulluudhaan ergamanii Seluuqiyaatti gad buʼan; achiis kaʼanii dooniin Qophiroos dhaqan.
Barnabas and Saul, sent on this mission, as they were, by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia, and from there sailed to Cyprus.
5 Yommuu Salaamiis gaʼanittis manneen sagadaa Yihuudootaa keessatti dubbii Waaqaa lallaban; Yohannisis isaan gargaaruuf isaan bira ture.
On reaching Salamis, they began to tell the message of God in the Jewish synagogues; and they had John with them as an assistant.
6 Isaanis yommuu biyyoota bishaaniin marfaman sana hundumaa keessa baʼanii hamma Phaafoositti dhufanitti, Yihuudii falfaltichaa fi raajii sobaa kan maqaan isaa Baaryesuus jedhamu tokkotti dhufan.
After passing through the whole island, they reached Paphos, where they found an astrologer who pretended to be a prophet – a Jew by birth, whose name was Barjoshua.
7 Innis namicha hubataa bulchaa biyyaa taʼe kan Sergiyoos Phaawulos jedhamu tokko wajjin ture. Bulchaan sunis waan dubbii Waaqaa dhagaʼuu barbaadeef nama ergee Barnaabaasii fi Saaʼolin waamsifate.
He was at the court of the Governor, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who sent for Barnabas and Saul and asked to be told God’s message.
8 Eliimaas falfaltichi kan hiikkaan maqaa isaa afaan Giriikiin akkasuma taʼe sun garuu bulchaa biyyaa sana amantii irraa deebisuuf jedhee isaaniin morme.
But Elymas, the astrologer (for that is the meaning of the word), opposed them, eager to divert the Governor’s attention from the faith.
9 Saaʼol inni Phaawulos jedhamu sun garuu Hafuura Qulqulluudhaan guutamee Eelimaasin hubatee ilaalee akkana jedheen;
However, Saul (who is the same as Paul), full of the Holy Spirit, fixed his eyes on him and said,
10 “Ati ilma diiyaabiloosii fi diina qajeelummaa hundaa ti! Sobaa fi gowwoomsaa gosa hundaatiinis guutamteerta. Ati karaa Gooftaa isa qajeelaa sana jalʼisuu hin dhiiftuu?
“You incarnation of deceit and all fraud! You son of the devil! You opponent of all that is good! Will you never cease to divert the straight paths of the Lord? Listen!
11 Kunoo amma harki Gooftaa sitti kaʼeera; atis jaamtee yeroof ifa aduu arguu ni dadhabda.” Yeruma sana hurrii fi dukkanni isa irra buʼe; innis nama harka qabee isa qajeelchu barbaaduu jalqabe.
The hand of the Lord is on you even now, and you will be blind for a time and unable to see the sun.” Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him, and he went feeling about for someone to guide him.
12 Bulchaan biyyaa sunis waan kana arginaan amane; barsiisa waaʼee Gooftaa dinqifatee tureetii.
When the Governor saw what had happened, he became a believer in Christ, being greatly impressed by the teaching about the Lord.
13 Phaawulosii fi miiltonni isaa Phaafoosii bidiruudhaan kaʼanii Phergeen ishee Phamfiliyaa sana dhaqan; Yohannisis achitti isaan dhiisee Yerusaalemitti deebiʼe.
After this, Paul and his companions set sail from Paphos and went to Perga in Pamphylia, where John left them and returned to Jerusalem.
14 Isaan garuu Phergeenii kaʼanii gara Anxookiiyaa ishee Phisiidiyaatti argamtuu dhufan; guyyaa Sanbataas mana sagadaa seenanii tataaʼan.
The others went on from Perga and arrived at Antioch in Pisidia. There they went into the synagogue on the Sabbath and took their seats.
15 Bulchitoonni mana sagadaa sanaas erga kitaabonni Seeraatii fi Raajotaa dubbifamanii booddee nama isaanitti erganii, “Yaa obboloota, yoo dubbii gorsaa uummataaf qabaattan mee dubbadhaa” jedhaniin.
After the reading of the Law and the prophets, the synagogue leader sent them this message – “Friends, if you have any helpful words to address to the people, now is the time to speak.”
16 Phaawulos kaʼee dhaabatee harkaan mallattoo argisiisee akkana jedhe; “Yaa namoota Israaʼel, isin warri Waaqa sodaattanis mee na dhagaʼaa!
So Paul rose and, motioning with his hand, said: “People of Israel and all here who worship God, hear what I have to say.
17 Waaqni saba Israaʼel abbootii keenya filate; innis yeroo isaan biyya Gibxi jiraachaa turanitti sabicha saba guddaa godhe; irree jabaanis achii isaan baase;
The God of this people Israel chose our ancestors, and during their stay in Egypt increased the prosperity of the people, and then with uplifted arm brought them out from that land.
18 gammoojjii keessattis gara waggaa afurtamaa isaanii obse.
For about forty years he bore with them in the desert;
19 Biyya Kanaʼaan keessaas saboota torba balleessee lafa isaanii akka dhaalaatti saba isaatiif kenne.
then, after destroying seven heathen nations in Canaan, he allotted their land to this people –
20 Wanni kun hundinuu gara waggaa 450 fudhatte. “Kana booddees Waaqni hamma bara Saamuʼeel raajichaatti abbootii murtii isaaniif kenne.
For about four hundred and fifty years. In later times he gave them Judges, of whom the prophet Samuel was the last.
21 Yommuu isaan akka inni mootii kennuufiif isa kadhatanitti Waaqni gosa Beniyaam keessaa Saaʼol ilma Qiishi isaaniif kenne; Saaʼolis waggaa 40 isaan bulche.
And, when they demanded a king, God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, who reigned for forty years.
22 Waaqni Saaʼolin mootummaa irraa buusee Daawitin mootii isaanii godhe; innis, ‘Ani nama akka garaa koo Daawit ilma Isseey argadheera; inni waan ani akka inni hojjetu fedhu hunda ni hojjeta’ jedhee waaʼee Daawit rageesseera.
After removing him, he raised David to the throne, and bore this testimony to him – ‘In David, the son of Jesse, I have found a man after my own heart, who will carry out all my purposes.’
23 “Waaqnis akkuma abdachiise sana, sanyii nama kanaa keessaa Yesuus fayyisaa saba Israaʼeliif fide.
It was from this man’s descendants that God, in accordance with his promise, gave Israel a Savior – Jesus;
24 Yohannis dhufaatii Yesuus duratti cuuphaa qalbii jijjiirrannaa saba Israaʼel hundumatti lallabee ture.
John having first proclaimed, before the appearance of Jesus, a baptism on repentance for all the people of Israel.
25 Yohannisis utuu ergama isaa guutachaa jiruu, ‘Isin eenyu na seetu? Ani isa isin eeggachaa jirtan miti. Garuu namni ani kophee isaa illee hiikuu hin malle tokko na duubaan ni dhufa’ jedhe.
As John was drawing towards the end of his career, he said ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not the Christ. But there is “one coming” after me, whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.’
26 “Obboloota, yaa ijoollee Abrahaam, isin warri Waaqa sodaattanis, dubbiin fayyina kanaa nuu ergame.
Brothers and sisters, descendants of Abraham, and all those among you who worship God, it was to us that the message of this salvation was sent.
27 Warra Yerusaalem keessa jiraatanii fi bulchitoonni isaanii waan Yesuusin hin beekiniif yookaan dubbii raajotaa isa Sanbata Sanbata dubbifamu waan hin hubatiniif isatti muruudhaan dubbii raajotaa sana guutan.
The people of Jerusalem and their leaders, failing to recognize Jesus, and not understanding the utterances of the prophets that are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.
28 Isaanis yoo sababii duʼa isatti mursiisuu dandaʼu argachuu baatan illee akka Yesuus ajjeefamuuf Phiilaaxoosin kadhatan.
They found no ground at all for putting him to death, and yet demanded his execution from Pilate;
29 Erga waan waaʼee isaa barreeffame hunda guutatanii booddees fannoo irraa gad buusanii awwaala keessa isa kaaʼan.
and, after carrying out everything written about him, they took Jesus down from the cross, and laid him in a tomb.
30 Waaqni garuu warra duʼan keessaa isa kaase.
But God raised him from the dead;
31 Innis warra isa wajjin Galiilaadhaa gara Yerusaalemitti ol baʼanitti guyyaa hedduu mulʼate; isaanis amma saba keenya duratti dhuga baatota isaa ti.
and he appeared for many days to those who had gone up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, and who are now witnesses for him to the people.
32 “Nus oduu nama gammachiisu isinitti odeessina; oduun kunis: Waaqni waan abbootii keenya abdachiise sana,
We also have good news to tell you, about the promise made to our ancestors –
33 Yesuusin duʼaa kaasuudhaan nuu ijoollee isaaniitiif guuteera. Kunis akkuma faarfannaa lammaffaa keessatti akkana jedhamee barreeffamee dha; “‘Ati ilma koo ti; ani harʼa si dhalcheera.’
That our children have had this promise completely fulfilled to them by God, by his raising Jesus. That is just what is said in the second Psalm – ‘You are my Son; this day I have become your Father.’
34 Wanni Waaqni, akka inni gonkumaa hin tortorreef jedhee warra duʼan keessaa isa kaaseef akkana jedhamee dubbii kana keessatti barreeffameera; “‘Ani eebba qulqulluu fi mirkanaaʼaa, isa Daawit abdachiifame sana isiniif nan kenna.’
As to his raising Jesus from the dead, never again to return to corruption, this is what is said – ‘I will give to you the sacred promises made to David;’
35 Akkasumas iddoo biraatti akkana jedha: “‘Qulqullichi kee akka tortoru hin gootu.’
And, therefore, in another Psalm it is said – ‘You will not give up the Holy One to undergo corruption.’
36 “Daawitis bara isaa keessa fedhii Waaqaa tajaajilee boqote; abbootii isaa biratti awwaalame; dhagni isaas ni tortore.
David, after obediently doing God’s will in his own time, fell asleep and was laid by the side of his ancestors, and did undergo corruption;
37 Inni Waaqni warra duʼan keessaa isa kaase sun garuu hin tortorre.
but Jesus, whom God raised from the dead, did not undergo corruption.
38 “Kanaaf yaa obboloota ko, isin akka karaa Yesuusiitiin dhiifamni cubbuu isinitti lallabame akka beektan nan fedha.
I would, therefore, like you to know, friends, that through Jesus forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you,
39 Namni amanu hundinuu waan seera Museetiin furamuu hin dandaʼin hunda irraa karaa Yesuusiitiin furamuu ni dandaʼa.
and that, in union with him, everyone who believes in him is absolved from every sin from which under the Law of Moses you could not be absolved.
40 Isinis akka wanni raajonni dubbatan sun isin irra hin geenyeef of eeggadhaa; innis akkana jedha:
Beware, therefore, that what is said in the prophets does not come true of you –
41 “‘Ilaalaa, isin qoostota nana; dinqisiifadhaa; dhumaas; ani bara keessan keessa waan isin yoo namni tokko isinitti hime illee hin amanne tokko nan hojjedha.’”
‘Look, you despisers, and wonder, and perish; for I am doing a deed in your days – a deed which, though told you in full, you will never believe’.”
42 Utuu Phaawulosii fi Barnaabaas mana sagadaatii baʼuutti jiranuu namoonni sun akka isaan Sanbata itti aanu illee deebiʼanii dubbii sana lallabaniif isaan kadhatan.
As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the people begged for a repetition of this teaching on the next Sabbath.
43 Erga wal gaʼiin mana sagadaa bittinnaaʼee booddee, Yihuudoonnii fi namoonni amantii Yihuudootaa fudhatanii itti bulan baayʼeen isaan duukaa buʼan; Phaawulosii fi Barnaabaasis jara sana wajjin dudubbatanii akka isaan ayyaana Waaqaatti jiraataniif cimsanii isaan gorsan.
After the congregation had dispersed, many of the Jews, and of the converts who joined in their worship, followed Paul and Barnabas, who talked with them and urged them to continue to rely on the loving kindness of God.
44 Sanbata itti aanutti nama muraasa malee uummanni magaalaa sanaa guutuun dubbii Gooftaa dhagaʼuuf walitti qabame.
On the following Sabbath, almost all the city gathered to hear God’s message.
45 Yihuudoonni garuu uummata baayʼee arganii hinaaffaan guutaman; Phaawulosinis arrabsanii waan inni dubbateen morman.
But the sight of the crowds of people filled the minds of the Jews with jealousy, and they kept contradicting Paul’s statements in violent language.
46 Phaawulosii fi Barnaabaasis akkana jedhanii sodaa malee deebii kennaniif; “Nu duraan dursinee dubbii Waaqaa isinitti himuu qabna ture; isin garuu dubbii sana diddanii akka jireenyi bara baraa isiniif hin malleetti waan of heddaniif kunoo, nu amma gara Namoota Ormaatti gara galla. (aiōnios g166)
Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out fearlessly, and said: “It was necessary that the message of God should be told to you first; but, since you reject it and reckon yourselves not worthy of the eternal life – we turn to the Gentiles! (aiōnios g166)
47 Gooftaan akkana jedhee nu ajajeeraatii; “‘Ani akka ati Namoota Ormaatiif ifa taatee, hamma qarqara lafaatti fayyina geessituuf si filadheera.’”
For this is the Lord’s command to us – ‘I have destined you for a light to the Gentiles, a means of salvation to the ends of the earth’.”
48 Namoonni Ormaas yommuu waan kana dhagaʼanitti gammadanii dubbii Gooftaa ulfeessan; warri jireenya bara baraatiif filataman hundinuus ni amanan. (aiōnios g166)
On hearing this, the Gentiles were glad and extolled God’s message; and all those who had been enrolled for eternal life became believers in Christ; (aiōnios g166)
49 Dubbiin Gooftaas naannoo sana hunda keessatti facaafame.
and the Lord’s message was carried throughout that district.
50 Yihuudoonni garuu dubartoota bebeekamoo Waaqa sodaatanii fi dura buʼoota magaalattii isaanitti tuttuqan; isaanis Phaawulosii fi Barnaabaas irratti ariʼatama kaasanii biyya isaanii keessaa isaan baasan.
But the Jews incited the women of high social standing who worshiped with them, and the leading men of the town, and started a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their region.
51 Isaan garuu akka akeekkachiisa isaaniif taʼuuf, awwaara miilla isaanii dhadhaʼatanii Iqooniyoonitti qajeelan.
They, however, shook the dust off their feet in protest,
52 Barattoonnis gammachuu fi Hafuura Qulqulluudhaan guutaman.
and went to Iconium, leaving the disciples full of joy and of the Holy Spirit.
