< 2 Saamuʼeel 1 >
1 Saaʼol erga duʼee booddee, Daawit Amaaleqoota rukutuu irraa deebiʼee Siiqlaag keessa guyyaa lama ture.
After the death of Saul, David returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites and stayed in Ziklag two days.
2 Guyyaa sadaffaatti namichi tokko qubata Saaʼolii dhufe; innis wayyaa isaa tarsaasee mataa isaatti awwaara firfirfatee ture. Yommuu Daawit bira gaʼettis ulfina isaaf kennuuf jedhee addaan lafatti gombifame.
On the third day a man with torn clothes and dust on his head arrived from Saul’s camp. When he came to David, he fell to the ground to pay him homage.
3 Daawitis, “Ati eessaa dhufte?” jedhee isa gaafate. Namichi immoo, “Ani qubata Israaʼelootaa keessaan baqadhee dhufe” jedhe.
“Where have you come from?” David asked. “I have escaped from the Israelite camp,” he replied.
4 Daawitis, “Maaltu dhalate? Mee natti himi” jedhee gaafate. Innis, “Namoonni adda waraanaatii ni baqatan. Baayʼeen isaanii harcaʼaniiru; duʼaniirus. Saaʼolii fi ilmi isaa Yoonaataanis duʼaniiru” jedheen.
“What was the outcome?” David asked. “Please tell me.” “The troops fled from the battle,” he replied. “Many of them fell and died. And Saul and his son Jonathan are also dead.”
5 Kana irratti Daawit dargaggeessa oduu kana fideen, “Akka Saaʼolii fi ilmi isaa Yoonaataan duʼan ati akkamitti beekte?” jedhe.
Then David asked the young man who had brought him the report, “How do you know that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead?”
6 Dargaggeessi sunis akkana jedhee deebise; “Akkuma tasaa ani Tulluu Gilboʼaatti ol baʼeen ture; Saaʼolis eeboo isaatti irkatee achi ture; gaariiwwan lolaatii fi abbootiin fardaa isa bira gaʼan.
“I happened to be on Mount Gilboa,” he replied, “and there was Saul, leaning on his spear, with the chariots and the cavalry closing in on him.
7 Innis yommuu garagalee na argetti na waame; anis, ‘Maal siif ajajamu?’ jedhee isa gaafadhe.
When he turned around and saw me, he called out and I answered, ‘Here I am!’
8 “Innis, ‘Ati eenyu?’ jedhee na gaafate. “Ani immoo, ‘Ani nama Amaaleq’ jedheen deebise.
‘Who are you?’ he asked. So I told him, ‘I am an Amalekite.’
9 “Ergasiis inni, ‘Narra dhaabadhuu na ajjeesi! Waan lubbuun na keessaa hin baʼiniif ani akka malee dhiphachaan jiraatii’ naan jedhe.
Then he begged me, ‘Stand over me and kill me, for agony has seized me, but my life still lingers.’
10 “Kanaafuu ani sababiin akka inni erga kufee hin fayyine beekeef isa irra dhaabadheen isa ajjeese. Gonfoo mataa isaatii fi bitawoo harka isaa fuudhee gooftaa kootiif fideera.”
So I stood over him and killed him, because I knew that after he had fallen he could not survive. And I took the crown that was on his head and the band that was on his arm, and I have brought them here to my lord.”
11 Daawitii fi namoonni isa wajjin turan hundi wayyaa of irraa baasanii tatarsaasan.
Then David took hold of his own clothes and tore them, and all the men who were with him did the same.
12 Isaanis Saaʼolii fi Yoonaataaniif, loltoota Waaqayyootii fi mana Israaʼel hundaaf gaddanii ni booʼan; hamma galgalaatti ni sooman; isaan goraadeedhaan dhumaniiruutii.
They mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the people of the LORD and the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.
13 Daawitis, “Ati eessaa dhufte?” jedhee dargaggeessicha oduu fide sana gaafate. Innis, “Ani ilma Amaaleq, namicha galtuu taʼe tokkoo ti” jedhee deebise.
And David inquired of the young man who had brought him the report, “Where are you from?” “I am the son of a foreigner,” he answered. “I am an Amalekite.”
14 Daawit immoo, “Yoos ati dibamaa Waaqayyoo tokko galaafachuuf harka kee ol fudhachuu maaliif hin sodaatin ree?” jedhee gaafate.
So David asked him, “Why were you not afraid to lift your hand to destroy the LORD’s anointed?”
15 Ergasii Daawit namoota isaa keessaa tokko waamee, “Dhaqiitii dhaʼii isa ajjeesi!” jedhe. Innis isa dhaʼe; namichis ni duʼe.
Then David summoned one of the young men and said, “Go, execute him!” So the young man struck him down, and he died.
16 Daawitis, “Sababii afaanumti kee, ‘Ani nama Waaqayyo isa dibe ajjeeseera’ jedhee dhugaa sitti baʼeef dhiigni kee matuma keetti deebiʼa” jedheen.
For David had said to the Amalekite, “Your blood be on your own head because your own mouth has testified against you, saying, ‘I killed the LORD’s anointed.’”
17 Daawit faaruu kanaan Saaʼolii fi ilma Saaʼol Yoonaataaniif booʼe;
Then David took up this lament for Saul and his son Jonathan,
18 akkasumas faaruu iddaa jedhamu kana akka namoonni Yihuudaa barsiisfaman ajaje; kunis kitaaba Yaashaar keessatti barreeffameera. Innis:
and he ordered that the sons of Judah be taught the Song of the Bow. It is written in the Book of Jashar:
19 “Yaa Israaʼel, ulfinni kee gaarran kee irratti ajjeefameera. Namoonni jajjaboon akkamitti akkas kukkufan!
“Your glory, O Israel, lies slain on your heights. How the mighty have fallen!
20 “Waan kana Gaati keessatti hin dubbatinaa; daandiiwwan Ashqaloon irrattis hin labsinaa; yoo kanaa achii intallan Filisxeemotaa ni gammadu; intallan warra dhagna hin qabatiniis ni ililchu.
Tell it not in Gath; proclaim it not in the streets of Ashkelon, lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, and the daughters of the uncircumcised exult.
21 “Yaa tulluuwwan Gilboʼaa, fixeensi isin irra hin buʼin yookaan bokkaan isinitti hin roobin; yookaan lafti qotiisaa midhaan aarsaaf dhiʼeeffamu biqilchu isin keessatti hin argamin. Gaachanni nama jabaa achitti xuraaʼeeraatii; gaachanni Saaʼol siʼachi zayitii hin dibamu.
O mountains of Gilboa, may you have no dew or rain, no fields yielding offerings of grain. For there the shield of the mighty was defiled, the shield of Saul, no longer anointed with oil.
22 “Dhiiga namoota dhumanii keessaa, foon namoota jajjaboo irraa, iddaan Yoonaataan duubatti hin deebine; goraadeen Saaʼolis akkasumaan hin deebine.
From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, the bow of Jonathan did not retreat, and the sword of Saul did not return empty.
23 Saaʼolii fi Yoonaataan yeroo lubbuun jiraachaa turanitti, jaallatamoo namni isaanitti gammadu turan; isaan yeroo duʼaattis gargari hin baane. Isaan risaa caalaa ariifatu, leenca caalaas jabaatu turan.
Saul and Jonathan, beloved and delightful in life, were not divided in death. They were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.
24 “Yaa intallan Israaʼel, Saaʼol isa wayyaa bildiimaa fi uffata haphii isinitti uffise, kan wayyaa keessan warqeedhaan miidhagse, sanaaf booʼaa.
O daughters of Israel, weep for Saul, who clothed you in scarlet and luxury, who decked your garments with ornaments of gold.
25 “Namoonni jajjaboon akkamitti waraana keessatti kufu! Yoonaataan gaarran keessan irratti ajjeefameera.
How the mighty have fallen in the thick of battle! Jonathan lies slain on your heights.
26 Yaa Yoonaataan obboleessa ko, ani siif gaddeera; ati anaaf nama akka malee jaallatamaa turte. Jaalalli ati naaf qabdu dinqisiisaa ture; jaalala dubartii caalaa dinqisiisaa ture.
I grieve for you, Jonathan, my brother. You were delightful to me; your love to me was extraordinary, surpassing the love of women.
27 “Namoonni jajjaboon akkamitti kufan! Miʼoonni lolaa balleeffamaniiru!”
How the mighty have fallen and the weapons of war have perished!”
