1 Tasaloniiqee 5
1 Egaa yaa obboloota, waaʼee barootaatii fi waaʼee waqtiilee waan tokko iyyuu isinii barreessuu nu hin barbaachisu;
But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you.
2 akka guyyaan Gooftaa akkuma hattuutti halkaniin dhufu isinuu sirriitti beektuutii.
For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night.
3 Utuma namoonni, “Nagaa dha; qabbanas” jedhanuu akkuma ciniinsuun dubartii ulfaatti dhufu badiisni akka tasaa isaanitti dhufa; jalaas hin baʼan.
For when they are saying, “Peace and safety,” then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman. Then they will in no way escape.
4 Isin garuu yaa obboloota, akka guyyaan sun akkuma hattuutti isinitti hin dhufneef isin warra dukkana keessa jirtan miti.
But you, brothers, aren’t in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief.
5 Isin hundi ijoollee ifaa ti; ijoollee guyyaatis. Nu warra halkanii yookaan warra dukkanaa miti.
You are all children of light and children of the day. We don’t belong to the night, nor to darkness,
6 Egaa kottaa nu akka warra kaanii hin rafnuu; qooda kanaa kottaa ni dammaqnaa; of qabnas.
so then let’s not sleep, as the rest do, but let’s watch and be sober.
7 Warri rafan halkaniin rafuutii; warri machaaʼanis halkaniin machaaʼu.
For those who sleep, sleep in the night; and those who are drunk are drunk in the night.
8 Nu garuu waan warra guyyaa taaneef kottaa amantii fi jaalala akka qomee sibiilaatti uffannee, abdii fayyinaa immoo akka qoobii sibiilaatti kaaʼannee of qabnaa.
But since we belong to the day, let’s be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.
9 Waaqni akka nu karaa Gooftaa keenya Yesuus Kiristoosiin fayyina argannuuf malee dheekkamsaaf nu hin filanneetii.
For God didn’t appoint us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Nu yoo dammaqne yookaan yoo rafne akka isa wajjin tokkummaan jiraannuuf inni nuuf duʼe.
who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
11 Kanaafuu akkuma amma gochaa jirtan kana wal jajjabeessaa; wal ijaaraas.
Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.
12 Egaa yaa obboloota, nu akka isin warra gidduu keessanitti cimanii hojjetan, kanneen karaa Gooftaatiin isin hooggananii fi isin gorsan sana kabajjan isin kadhanna.
But we beg you, brothers, to know those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you,
13 Sababii hojii isaaniitiifis jaalalaan ulfina guddaa isaaniif kennaa. Nagaadhaanis walii wajjin jiraadhaa.
and to respect and honor them in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.
14 Yaa obboloota, nu akka isin warra hojii hojjechuu hin jaallanne akeekkachiiftan, sodaattota jajjabeessitan, dadhaboo gargaartan, akka nama hundumaafis obsitan isin gorsina.
We exhort you, brothers: Admonish the disorderly; encourage the faint-hearted; support the weak; be patient toward all.
15 Akka namni tokko iyyuu waan hamaaf deebii hamaa hin deebifne of eeggadhaa; qooda kanaa yeroo hunda waliif, nama hundaafis waan gaarii gochuuf carraaqaa.
See that no one returns evil for evil to anyone, but always follow after that which is good for one another and for all.
16 Yeroo hunda gammadaa;
Always rejoice.
17 utuu gargar hin kutin kadhadhaa.
Pray without ceasing.
18 Haala hundumaa keessatti Waaqa galateeffadhaa; fedhiin Waaqni Kiristoos Yesuusitti isiniif qabu kanaatii.
In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.
19 Hafuura hin dhaamsinaa;
Don’t quench the Spirit.
20 raajii hin tuffatinaa;
Don’t despise prophecies.
21 waan hunda qoraa. Isa gaarii jabeessaatii qabadhaa.
Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good.
22 Hammina gosa hundumaa irraa fagaadhaa.
Abstain from every form of evil.
23 Waaqni mataan isaa, Waaqni nagaa guutumaan guutuutti isin haa qulqulleessu. Hafuurri keessan, lubbuun keessanii fi dhagni keessan guutuun guyyaa Gooftaan keenya Yesuus Kiristoos dhufutti mudaa irraa haa eegaman.
May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Inni isin waamu sun amanamaa dha; waan kanas ni godha.
He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it.
25 Yaa obboloota, nuufis kadhadhaa.
Brothers, pray for us.
26 Dhungoo qulqulluudhaanis obboloota hunda nagaa gaafadhaa.
Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
27 Ani akka xalayaan kun obboloota hundaaf dubbifamu fuula Gooftaa duratti isin ajaja.
I solemnly command you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the holy brothers.
28 Ayyaanni Gooftaa keenya Yesuus Kiristoos isin wajjin haa taʼu.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
