< 1 Saamuʼeel 8 >

1 Saamuʼeel yeroo dulloometti ilmaan isaa abbootii murtii godhee Israaʼeliif muude.
When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as judges over Israel.
2 Maqaan ilma isaa hangaftichaa Yooʼeel, kan isa lammaffaa immoo Abiyaa jedhama; isaanis Bersheebaa keessatti abbootii murtii turan.
The name of his firstborn son was Joel, and the name of his second was Abijah. They were judges in Beersheba.
3 Ilmaan isaa garuu fakkeenya abbaa isaanii duukaa hin buune. Buʼaa hin malle argachuuf jedhanii mattaʼaa fudhatan; murtiis jalʼisan.
But his sons did not walk in his ways; they turned aside toward dishonest gain, accepting bribes and perverting justice.
4 Kanaafuu maanguddoonni Israaʼel wal gaʼanii Saamuʼeel bira gara Raamaa dhufan;
So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah.
5 isaanis, “Ati dulloomteerta; ilmaan kee immoo fakkeenya kee duukaa hin buune; akkuma saboonni kaan hundi mootii qaban sana mootii nu bulchu nuu muudi” jedhaniin.
“Look,” they said, “you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint a king to judge us like all the other nations.”
6 Garuu, “Mootii nu bulchu nuuf muudi” jechuun isaanii waan Saamuʼeelin hin gammachiisiniif inni Waaqayyoon kadhate.
But when they said, “Give us a king to judge us,” their demand was displeasing in the sight of Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD.
7 Waaqayyos akkana isaan jedhe; “Waan sabni sun siin jedhu hunda dhagaʼi; isaan akka ani mootii isaanii hin taaneef na tuffatan malee si hin tuffanne.
And the LORD said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you. For it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected Me as their king.
8 Isaan waanuma gaafa ani Gibxii isaan baasee jalqabee hamma harʼaatti na dhiisanii waaqota gara biraa tajaajiluudhaan natti hojjetan sana sittis hojjechaa jiru.
Just as they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking Me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.
9 Egaa amma waan isaan jedhan dhagaʼi; garuu sirriitti isaan akeekkachiisiitii haala mootii isaan irratti mooʼu sanaa isaanitti himi.”
Now listen to them, but you must solemnly warn them and show them the manner of the king who will reign over them.”
10 Saamuʼeelis dubbii Waaqayyoo hunda namoota akka mootiin isaaniif moosifamuuf gaafatan sanatti hime.
So Samuel spoke all the words of the LORD to the people who were asking him for a king.
11 Akkanas isaaniin jedhe; “Wanni mootiin isin irratti mooʼu sun godhu kana: Inni ilmaan keessan fudhatee akka isaan gaariiwwan isaa irra tajaajilan godha; abbootii fardaas isaan godhata; isaanis gaariiwwan isaa dura fiigu.
He said, “This will be the manner of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and appoint them to his own chariots and horses, to run in front of his chariots.
12 Gariin isaanii ajajjuuwwan kumaa, gariin isaanii immoo ajajjuuwwan shantamaa, kaan immoo akka isaan lafa isaa qotanii midhaan isaa walitti qaban godha; warra hafanis akka isaan miʼa lolaatii fi miʼa gaariiwwan isaa hojjetan godha.
He will appoint some for himself as commanders of thousands and of fifties, and others to plow his ground, to reap his harvest, to make his weapons of war, and to equip his chariots.
13 Intallan keessan fudhatee qopheessitoota dibata urgaaʼaa, qopheessitoota ittoo fi tolchitoota buddeenaa godhata.
And he will take your daughters to be perfumers, cooks, and bakers.
14 Lafa qotiisaa keessan isa filatamaa, iddoo dhaabaa wayiniitii fi iddoo itti ejersa cuunfan isin irraa fudhatee hojjettoota isaatiif kenna.
He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his servants.
15 Midhaanii fi ija wayinii keessanii harka kudhan keessaa harka tokko fuudhee qondaaltota isaatii fi hojjettoota isaatiif kenna.
He will take a tenth of your grain and grape harvest and give it to his officials and servants.
16 Garboota dhiiraatii fi garboota dubartii, horii gagaarii fi harroota keessan fudhatee hojii ofii irratti bobbaafata.
And he will take your menservants and maidservants and your best cattle and donkeys and put them to his own use.
17 Bushaayee keessan keessaa harka kudhan keessaa harka tokko ni fudhata; isin mataan keessanuu garboota isaa taatu.
He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves.
18 Gaafas isin mootii keessan isa ofii keessaniif filattan sana jalaa furamuuf ni iyyitu; garuu guyyaa sana Waaqayyo deebii isinii hin kennu.”
When that day comes, you will beg for relief from the king you have chosen, but the LORD will not answer you on that day.”
19 Namoonni sun garuu Saamuʼeelin dhagaʼuu didanii akkana jedhan; “Hin taʼu! Nu mootii nu bulchu feena.
Nevertheless, the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We must have a king over us.
20 Ergasiis akkuma saboota kaanii taana; mootiin keenyas nu hooggana; nu dura baʼees lola keenya nuu lola.”
Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to judge us, to go out before us, and to fight our battles.”
21 Saamuʼeel yeroo waan namoonni sun jedhan hunda dhagaʼetti fuula Waaqayyoo duratti waanuma sana deebisee dubbate.
Samuel listened to all the words of the people and repeated them in the hearing of the LORD.
22 Waaqayyos Saamuʼeeliin, “Waan isaan jedhan dhagaʼiitii mootii moosisiif” jedhe. Saamuʼeelis namoota Israaʼeliin, “Tokkoon tokkoon keessan magaalaa keessanitti deebiʼaa” jedhe.
“Listen to their voice,” the LORD said to Samuel. “Appoint a king for them.” Then Samuel told the men of Israel, “Everyone must go back to his city.”
