1 Daawit Mootichi yeroo jaaree dulloometti yoo uffata itti tuulan illee dhagni isaa hin hoʼuuf ture.
King David had grown old and couldn't keep warm in bed however many blankets they used to cover him.
2 Kanaafuu tajaajiltoonni isaa akkana jedhaniin; “Durba qulqulluu mooticha tajaajiltuu fi kunuunsitu haa barbaannu. Isheenis gooftaa keenya mootichatti bira ciiftee isa haa hoʼiftu.”
So his officials suggested, “Let a search be made on behalf of Your Majesty for a young virgin to serve you and look after you. She can lie next to you and keep you warm.”
3 Isaanis biyya Israaʼel guutuu keessa durba miidhagduu barbaadanii intala Abiishagi jedhamtu kan gosa Suunam tokko argatanii mootichatti fidan.
So they searched the whole country of Israel for a beautiful young woman and found Abishag from the town of Shunem and took her to the king.
4 Intalattiin akka malee miidhagduu turte; isheenis mooticha kunuunsite; ni tajaajiltes; mootichi garuu ishee bira hin gaʼu ture.
She was very beautiful, and she looked after the king, attending to his needs, but he did not have sex with her.
5 Yeroo sanatti Adooniyaan ilmi Hagiit kan isheen Daawitiif deesse, “Ani mootii nan taʼa” jedhee ol ol of qabe. Kanaafuu inni gaariiwwanii fi fardeen akkasumas namoota fuula isaa dura fiigan shantama qopheeffate.
Adonijah, son of Haggith, was busy promoting himself, saying “I'm going to be king!” He arranged chariots and horsemen for himself, and fifty men to run ahead of him.
6 Abbaan isaa immoo, “Ati maaliif waan akkanaa goota?” jedhee gonkumaa isa ifatee hin beeku. Inni gurbaa akka malee miidhagaa kan Abesaaloomitti aanee dhalatee dha.
(Never in his life had his father corrected him. He'd never asked him, “Why did you do that?” He was also very good-looking, and had been born after Absalom.)
7 Adooniyaanis Yooʼaab ilma Zeruuyaatii fi Abiyaataar lubichaan mariʼate; isaanis isa deeggaran.
Adonijah discussed his plan with Joab, son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest, who agreed to support him.
8 Garuu Zaadoq lubichi, Benaayaa ilmi Yehooyaadaa, Naataan raajichi, Shimeʼiin, Reeʼii fi eegdonni Daawit filatamoon Adooniyaa wajjin hin turre.
But Zadok the priest, Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and David's bodyguard were not on Adonijah's side.
9 Adooniyaanis dhagaa Zoohelet isa naannoo Een Roogeelitti argamu biratti hoolaa, korma looniitii fi jabboota coccoomoo aarsaa dhiʼeesse. Innis obboloota isaa ilmaan mootichaa hunda, namoota Yihuudaa kanneen qondaaltota mootichaa taʼan hunda ni waame;
Adonijah invited all his brothers, the king's sons, and the king's officials of Judah, to come to the stone of Zoheleth, which is near En-rogel, where he sacrificed sheep, cattle and fattened calves.
10 garuu Naataan raajicha yookaan Benaayaa yookaan eegdota filatamoo yookaan obboleessa isaa Solomoonin hin waamne.
But he didn't invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, David's bodyguard, or his brother Solomon.
11 Ergasii Naataan akkana jedhee Batisheebaa haadha Solomoon gaafate; “Ati akka Adooniyaan ilmi Hagiitii, utuu gooftaan keenya Daawit quba hin qabaatin mootii taʼe hin dhageenyee?
Nathan went to Bathsheba, Solomon's mother, and asked her, “Haven't you heard that Adonijah, son of Haggith, has become king, and His Majesty King David doesn't even know?
12 Mee amma kottu akka ati itti lubbuu keetii fi lubbuu ilma kee Solomoon oolchuu dandeessu si gorsaa.
Let me give you some advice so you can save your life, and that of your son Solomon.
13 Amma gara Daawit mootichaa dhaqiitii, ‘Yaa gooftaa koo mootii, ati, “Ilmi kee Solomoon anatti aanee dhugumaan mootii ni taʼa; teessoo koo irras ni taaʼa” jettee ana garbittii keetiif hin kakannee? Yoos Adooniyaan maaliif mootii taʼe?’ jedhiin.
Go immediately to King David and ask him, ‘Didn't Your Majesty swear to me, your servant, saying, Your son Solomon will definitely be king after me and will sit on my throne? So why is Adonijah saying he's king?’
14 Anis utuma ati achitti mooticha wajjin dubbachaa jirtuu dhufee waan ati jettu sana siif mirkaneessa.”
Then I'll come in while you're still there talking with the king and I'll confirm what you're saying.”
15 Kanaafuu Batisheebaan kaatee mootii dulloome sana arguuf gara kutaa Abiishagi intalli gosa Suunam sun itti isa kunuunsaa turteetti ol seente.
So Bathsheba went to see the king in his bedroom. He was very old and Abishag was looking after him.
16 Batisheebaan gad jettee fuula mootichaa duratti jilbeenfatte. Mootichis, “Ati maal barbaadda?” jedhee gaafate.
Bathsheba bowed low in respect. He asked her, “What is it that you want?”
17 Isheenis akkana jettee deebifteef; “Yaa gooftaa ko, ati mataan kee, ‘Ilmi kee Solomoon natti aanee mootii ni taʼa; teessoo koo irras ni taaʼa’ jettee maqaa Waaqayyo Waaqa keetiitiin ana garbittii keetiif kakattee turte.
She replied, “Your Majesty, you swore to me, your servant, by the Lord your God, ‘Your son Solomon will definitely be king after me and will sit on my throne.’
18 Amma garuu Adooniyaan mootii taʼeera; ati gooftaan koo mootichis waan kana quba hin qabdu.
But now Adonijah has become king and Your Majesty doesn't even know.
19 Inni kunoo sangoota, jabboota coccoomoo fi hoolota baayʼee aarsaa dhiʼeessee ilmaan mootii hunda, Abiyaataar lubichaa fi Yooʼaab ajajaa loltootaa waameera; garuu garbicha kee Solomoonin hin waamne.
He has sacrificed plenty of cattle, fattened calves, and sheep, and he has invited all the king's sons, Abiathar the priest, and Joab the army commander. But he didn't invite your servant Solomon.
20 Yaa gooftaa koo mooticha, si booddeedhaan eenyu teessoo gooftaa koo mootichaa irra akka taaʼu sirraa beekuudhaaf iji Israaʼel hundi sirra jira.
Now, Your Majesty, everyone in Israel is watching to see who you're going to say will be the next king.
21 Yoo kanaa achii yeroo gooftaan koo mootichi abbootii isaa wajjin boqotutti anii fi ilmi koo Solomoon akka nama balleessaa qabuutti ilaalamna.”
If you don't do anything, as soon as Your Majesty dies, I and my son Solomon will be considered traitors…”
22 Utuma isheen amma illee mooticha wajjin dubbachaa jirtuu Naataan raajichi ni dhufe.
Right then, while she was still speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet arrived.
23 Isaanis, “Naataan raajichi as jira” jedhanii mootichatti himan. Kanaafuu Naataan dhufee fuula mootichaa duratti gad jedhee harka fuudhe.
The king was told, “Nathan the prophet is here.” Nathan went in to see the king. He bowed down with his face to the ground.
24 Naataanis akkana jedhe; “Yaa gooftaa koo mootii, ati, ‘Adooniyaan natti aanee mootii taʼa; teessoo koo irras ni taaʼa’ jetteertaa?
Nathan asked the king, “Your Majesty, you must have announced, ‘Adonijah will be king after me and will sit on my throne.’
25 Inni harʼa gad buʼee sangoota, jabboota coccoomoo fi hoolota baayʼee aarsaa dhiʼeesseera. Ilmaan mootichaa hunda, ajajjoota loltootaatii fi Abiyaataar lubicha waameera. Isaan amma iyyuu isa wajjin nyaachaa dhugaa, ‘Adooniyaan mootichi bara dheeraa haa jiraatu!’ jechaa jiru.
For today he has gone and sacrificed many cattle, fattened calves, and sheep, and he has invited all the king's sons, the army commanders, and Abiathar the priest. Right now they are eating and drinking with him, shouting, ‘Long live King Adonijah!’
26 Garuu ana garbicha kee, Zaadoq lubicha, Benaayaa ilma Yehooyaadaatii fi garbicha kee Solomoonin hin waamne.
But he didn't invite me, your servant, or Zadok the priest, or Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, or your son Solomon.
27 Egaa kun waan gooftaan koo mootichi utuu isa booddeedhaan eenyu akka teessoo gooftaa koo mootichaa irra taaʼu garbicha isaa hin beeksisin hojjeteedhaa?”
If Your Majesty did this, you certainly didn't inform your officials as to who is meant to sit on your throne as the next king.”
28 Daawit mootichi, “Mee Batisheebaa ol waamaa” jedhe. Kanaafuu isheen gara mootichaatti ol seentee fuula isaa dura dhaabatte.
King David replied, “Call Bathsheba for me.” Bathsheba came in and stood before the king.
29 Mootichis akkana jedhee kakateef; “Dhugaa Waaqayyo jiraataa isa rakkina hundumaa keessaa na baase sanaa,
The king swore a vow, saying, “As the Lord lives, who has saved me from all kinds of trouble, just as I swore to you previously by the Lord the God of Israel,
30 ani waan duraan maqaa Waaqayyo Waaqa Israaʼeliin siif kakadhe sana harʼa dhugumaan siif guuta. Ilmi kee Solomoon na booddeedhaan mootii taʼa; iddoo koos teessoo koo irra ni taaʼa.”
telling you Solomon your son will be the next king and he will sit on my throne instead of me—I swear I will do this today.”
31 Batisheebaanis addaan gad jettee harka fuutee fuula mootichaa duratti jilbeenfattee, “Gooftaan ko, Daawit mootichi bara baraan haa jiraatu!” jette.
Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground, honoring the king and said, “May Your Majesty King David live forever.”
32 Daawit mootichis, “Mee Zaadoq lubicha, Naataan raajichaa fi Benaayaa ilma Yehooyaadaa as waamaa” jedhe. Yommuu isaan fuula mootichaa duratti dhiʼaatanitti,
Then King David said, “Call for me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, son of Jehoiada.” When they arrived,
33 inni akkana isaaniin jedhe: “Garboota gooftaa keessanii of faana fudhadhaatii ilma koo Solomoonin gaangoo koo irra teessisaatii Giihoonitti gad buusaa.
the king told them, “Take the king's officials with you, and have them put Solomon on my own mule and lead him down to the Gihon Spring.
34 Achittis Zaadoq lubichii fi Naataan raajichi Israaʼeloota irratti mootii godhanii isa haa diban. Malakata afuufaatii, ‘Solomoon mootichi bara dheeraa haa jiraatu!’ jedhaa iyyaa.
There have Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him king of Israel. Blow the trumpet and shout out, ‘Long live King Solomon!’
35 Isinis ergasii isa wajjin ol baʼuu qabdu; innis dhufee teessoo koo irra taaʼee iddoo koo buʼee mootii taʼuu qaba. Ani akka inni bulchaa taʼuuf Israaʼelii fi Yihuudaa irratti isa muudeera.”
Then follow him back up, and have him come and sit on my throne. He is to be king instead of me. I am placing him in charge as ruler of Israel and Judah.”
36 Benaayaa ilmi Yehooyaadaa akkana jedhee mootichaaf deebise; “Ameen! Waaqayyo Waaqni gooftaa koo mootichaa akkasuma haa jedhu.
“Amen!” replied Benaiah, son of Jehoiada. “May the Lord, the God of my lord the king, confirm this!
37 Waaqayyo akkuma gooftaa koo mooticha wajjin ture Solomoon wajjin haa taʼu; teessoo isaas teessoo gooftaa koo Daawit mootichaa caalaa haa jabeessu!”
In the same way the Lord was with my lord the king may he be with Solomon, and may he make his reign even greater than the reign of my lord King David.”
38 Kanaafuu Zaadoq lubichi, Naataan raajichi, Benaayaa ilmi Yehooyaadaa, Kereetonnii fi Pheletonni gad buʼanii gaangoo Daawit mootichaa irra Solomoon teessisanii Giihoonitti geessan.
Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, together with the Cherethites and Pelethites, went and placed Solomon on King David's mule, and led him down to the Gihon Spring.
39 Zaadoq lubichi dunkaana qulqulluu keessaa gaanfa zayitii fuudhee Solomooniin dibe. Isaanis malakata afuufanii namoonni hundi, “Solomoon mootichi bara dheeraa haa jiraatu!” jedhanii iyyan.
Zadok the priest took the horn containing olive oil from the Tent and anointed Solomon. Then they blew the trumpet, and all the people shouted, “Long live King Solomon!”
40 Namoonni hundi hamma sagalee sanaan lafti sochootutti faaggaa afuufaa gammachuu guddaadhaan isa faana ol baʼan.
Everyone followed him, playing flutes and celebrating so happily that the sound shook the earth.

Adonijah and all his guests heard the noise as they were finishing eating. When Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he asked, “What's all this noise coming from the city?”
42 Utuma inni dubbachuutti jiruu, Yonaataan ilmi Abiyaataar lubichaa ni dhufe. Adooniyaanis, “Ol seeni. Jabaan akka keetii kun oduu gaarii fiduu qabaa” jedhe.
While he was speaking, Jonathan, son of Abiathar the priest, suddenly arrived. “Come on in,” said Adonijah. “A good man like you must be bringing good news.”
43 Yonaataanis akkana jedhee deebise; “Akkas miti! Gooftaan keenya Daawit mootichi, Solomoonin mootii godheera.
“Absolutely not!” Jonathan replied. “Our lord King David has made Solomon king!
44 Mootichis Zaadoq lubicha, Naataan raajicha, Benaayaa ilma Yehooyaadaa, Kereetotaa fi Pheletota isa wajjin erge; isaanis gaangoo mootichaa irra isa teessisan;
He sent Solomon to be anointed with Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites. They had him ride on the king's mule.

Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anointed him king at the Gihon Spring. Now they have returned, celebrating with shouts that echo round the city. That's the noise you're hearing.
46 Kana caalaa iyyuu Solomoon teessoo mootummaa irra taaʼeera.
On top of that, Solomon is sitting on the royal throne,

and the royal officials have also gone to voice their approval to our lord King David, saying, ‘May your God make Solomon's reputation even more famous than your own, and may he make his reign greater than your reign.’ The king on his bed bowed his head,

and said, ‘Praise the Lord, the God of Israel! Today he has provided a successor to sit on my throne, and I have been privileged to see it.’”
49 Kana irrati keessummoonni Adooniyaa hundi rifatanii kaʼanii bibittinnaaʼan.
When all of the guests who were supporting Adonijah heard this they shook with fear. They got up and rushed out in different directions.
50 Adooniyaan garuu Solomoonin sodaatee dhaqee gaanfa iddoo aarsaa qabate.
Adonijah was terrified of Solomon, so he ran off. He went and grabbed hold of the horns of the altar.
51 Solomoonittis akkana jedhamee himame; “Adooniyaan Solomoon mooticha sodaatee gaanfa iddoo aarsaa qabatee itti cicheera. Innis, ‘Solomoon mootichi akka goraadeedhaan garbicha isaa hin ajjeefne harʼa naaf haa kakatu’ jedhe.”
Solomon was told, “Adonijah is terrified of Your Majesty. He has grabbed hold of the horns of the altar, saying, ‘Let King Solomon swear today that he won't kill me, his servant!’”
52 Solomoonis, “Yoo inni amanamaa taʼuu isaa mirkaneesse rifeensa mataa isaa keessaa tokko iyyuu lafa hin buʼu; garuu yoo hamminni isa keessatti argame inni ni duʼa” jedhee deebise.
Solomon replied, “If he is an honorable man, not one hair of his will fall to the ground. But if he shows himself to be evil, he will die.”
53 Solomoon mootichis nama itti erge; isaanis iddoo aarsaa biraa gad isa fidan. Adooniyaanis dhufee fuula Solomoon mootichaa duratti gad jedhee harka fuudhe; Solomoonis, “Deemi, mana keetti gali” jedheen.
