1 Nu waaʼee Dubbii jireenyaa kan jalqabaa kaasee ture, kan dhageenye, kan ija keenyaan argine, kan ilaallee fi kan harki keenyas qaqqabe kana labsina.
That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have witnessed with our eyes, that which we contemplated and our hands handled with reference to the word of the Life
2 Jireenyi mulʼateera; nus isa argineerra; dhugaas ni baanaaf; nu jireenya bara baraa isa Abbaa wajjin turee fi isa nutti mulʼate sana isinitti labsina. (aiōnios g166)
—oh yes, the Life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and declare to you that eternal Life who was in the presence of the Father and was manifested to us— (aiōnios g166)
3 Akka isinis nu wajjin tokkummaa qabaattaniif waan arginee fi waan dhageenye isinitti labsina. Tokkummaan keenyas Abbaa fi Ilma isaa Yesuus Kiristoos wajjin.
that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, so that you also may have fellowship with us; indeed, our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.
4 Nus akka gammachuun keenya guutuu taʼuuf waan kana barreessina.
Yes, we write these things to you so that our joy may be fulfilled.
5 Ergaan nu isa irraa dhageenye, kan isinittis labsinu isa kana: Kunis akka Waaqni ifa taʼee fi akka dukkanni gonkumaa isa keessa hin jirree dha.
Now this is the message that we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and there is no darkness at all in Him.
6 Nu isa wajjin tokkummaa qabna jennee yoo dukkana keessa deddeebine ni sobna; dhugaa sanaanis hin jiraannu.
If we claim that we have fellowship with Him while walking in the darkness, we are lying and not living the truth.
7 Garuu akkuma inni ifa keessa jiru sana, nus yoo ifa keessa deddeebine walii wajjin tokkummaa qabna; dhiigni Ilma isaa Yesuus cubbuu hundumaa irraa nu qulqulleessa.
But if we walk in the light just as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
8 Nu yoo cubbuu hin qabnu jenne of gowwoomsina; dhugaanis nu keessa hin jiru.
If we claim that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the Truth is not in us.
9 Yoo cubbuu keenya himanne, inni cubbuu keenya nuu dhiisuuf amanamaa fi qajeelaa dha; jalʼina hunda irraas nu qulqulleessa.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous so as to forgive us those sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 Nu yoo cubbuu hin hojjennee jenne immoo sobduu isa goona; dubbiin isaas nu keessa hin jiru.
If we claim that we have not sinned, we call Him a liar and His Word is not in us.
