1 Yaa ijoollee ko, ani akka isin cubbuu hin hojjenneef kana isiniifan barreessa. Garuu yoo namni kam iyyuu cubbuu hojjete nu Abbaa biraa abukaattoo qabna; innis Yesuus Kiristoos Isa Qajeelaa sana.
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you won’t sin. If anyone sins, we have an Intercessor with the Father, the righteous Jesus Christ.
2 Inni aarsaa cubbuu keenyaaf araara buusuu dha; cubbuu addunyaa hundaatiifis malee cubbuu keenya qofaaf miti.
He Himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.
3 Nu yoo ajaja isaa eegne, kanaan akka isa beekne ni beekna.
This is how we know that we have come to know Him: if we keep His commandments.
4 Namni, “Ani isa nan beeka” jedhu kan garuu ajaja isaa hin eegne kam iyyuu sobduu dha; dhugaanis isa keessa hin jiru.
The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and doesn’t keep His commandments is a liar, and the truth isn’t in him.
5 Garuu yoo namni kam iyyuu dubbii isaatiif ajajame, jaalalli Waaqaa dhugumaan isa keessatti guutuu taʼa. Kanaanis nu akka isa keessa jirru ni beekna;
But whoever keeps His word has the sincere love of God truly perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him:
6 namni ani isaanan jiraadha ofiin jedhu kam iyyuu akkuma Yesuus jiraate sanatti jiraachuu qaba.
whoever claims to live in Jesus ought to walk in the same way He walked.
7 Yaa obboloota, ani ajaja moofaa isuma jalqabaa kaasee isin bira ture sana malee ajaja haaraa isinii hin barreessu. Ajajni moofaan kunis ergaadhuma isin dhageessan sana.
Brothers and sisters, I’m not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you have heard.
8 Taʼus ani ajaja haaraa tokko isiniif nan barreessa; sababiin isaas dukkanichi darbaa, ifni dhugaa immoo waan amma iyyuu ifaa jiruuf dhugaan isaa isa keessattii fi isin keessatti ni mulʼata.
Yet, I am writing a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining.
9 Namni ani ifa keessa jira ofiin jechaa obboleessa isaa immoo jibbu kam iyyuu amma illee dukkana keessa jira.
Whoever claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister, is still in darkness.
10 Namni obboleessa isaa jaallatu hundinuu ifa keessa jiraata; wanni isa gufachiisu tokko iyyuu isa keessa hin jiru.
Whoever sincerely loves his brothers and sisters lives in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.
11 Namni obboleessa isaa jibbu garuu dukkana keessa jira; dukkanuma keessa jiraatas; inni waan dukkanni sun isa jaamseef gara itti adeemu hin beeku.
But whoever hates a brother or sister is in darkness and walks in darkness, and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
12 Yaa ijoolle, cubbuun keessan sababii maqaa isaatiif waan isinii dhiifameef ani isiniifin barreessa.
I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for His name’s sake.
13 Yaa abbootii, isin waan isa jalqabumaa kaasee jiru sana beektaniif ani isiniifin barreessa. Yaa dargaggoota, isin waan isa hamaa sana moʼattaniif, ani isiniifin barreessa.
I write to you, fathers, because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father.
14 Yaa ijoolle, isin waan Abbaa beektaniif, ani isiniifin barreessa. Yaa abbootii, isin waan isa jalqabumaa kaasee jiru sana beektaniif, ani isiniifin barreessa. Yaa dargaggoota, isin waan jajjaboo taataniif, waan dubbiin Waaqaa isin keessa jiraatuuf, waan isa hamaa sanas moʼattaniif, ani isiniifin barreessa.
I have written to you, fathers, because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the wicked one.
15 Addunyaa yookaan waan addunyaa keessa jiru tokko illee hin jaallatinaa. Eenyu iyyuu yoo addunyaa jaallate, jaalalli Abbaa isa keessa hin jiru.
Don’t sincerely love the world or the things in the world. If anyone sincerely loves the world, the sincere love of the Father isn’t in him.
16 Wanni addunyaa keessa jiru hundinuu jechuunis hawwiin foonii, hawwiin ijaa, akkasumas waan qabaniin kooruun kan addunyaati malee kan Abbaa miti.
For everything that is in the world - the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life - isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s.
17 Addunyaa fi hawwiin ishee ni badu; namni fedhii Waaqaa raawwatu garuu bara baraan jiraata. (aiōn g165)
The world and its lusts are passing away, but whoever does the will of God stays forever. (aiōn g165)
18 Yaa ijoolle, saʼaatiin kun saʼaatii dhumaa ti; akka farri Kiristoos sun dhufu akkuma dhageessan sana ammuma iyyuu farroonni Kiristoos baayʼeen dhufaniiru. Kanaanis nu akka saʼaatiin kun saʼaatii dhumaa taʼe beekna.
Little children, we are in the end times. As you have heard the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. By this we know that we are in the end times.
19 Isaan nu keessaa baʼan malee dhugumaan kan keenya hin turre. Utuu kan keenya taʼanii silaa nu biratti hafu turan; nu biraa deemuun isaanii garuu akka tokkoon isaanii iyyuu keenya hin taʼin mulʼise.
They went out from us, but they didn’t belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. Instead, they went out so that it might be revealed that none of them belonged to us.
20 Isin garuu Isa Qulqulluu sanaan dibamtaniirtu; isin hundis dhugaa ni beektu.
But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know the truth.
21 Sababiin ani isinii barreessuuf waan isin dhugaa beektanii fi akka sobni tokko iyyuu dhugaa keessa hin jirres beektaniif malee waan isin dhugaa hin beekneef miti.
I write to you, not because you don’t know the truth, but because you do know it, and because you know that no lie belongs to the truth.
22 Nama Yesuus kun Kiristoos miti jedhee ganu malee sobduun eenyu ree? Namni akkasii farra Kiristoos; inni Abbaa fi Ilma ni gana.
Who is a liar? Whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Whoever denies the Father and the Son is an antichrist.
23 Namni Ilma ganu kam iyyuu Abbaa illee hin qabu; namni waaʼee Ilmaa dhugaa baʼu hundinuu Abbaas qaba.
Whoever denies the Son doesn’t have the Father either. Whoever acknowledges the Son also has the Father.
24 Wanni isin jalqabaa kaaftanii dhageessan sun isin keessa haa jiraatu. Yoo wanni jalqabaa kaaftanii dhageessan isin keessa jiraate, isinis Ilmaa fi Abbaadhaan ni jiraattu.
Therefore, let that which you heard from the beginning live in you. If what you heard from the beginning lives in you, you also will live in the Son and in the Father.
This is the promise that He has promised to us - eternal life. (aiōnios g166)
26 Ani waaʼee warra karaa irraa isin jalʼisuu yaalan sanaatiif waan kana isiniifin barreessa.
I have written these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you.
27 Garuu dibanni isin isa irraa argattan sun waan isin keessa jiraatuuf namni tokko iyyuu isin barsiisuu hin barbaachisu; dibanni isaa sun garuu waan waaʼee hundumaa isin barsiisuuf, dibanni sun waan dhugaa malee soba hin taʼiniif akkuma inni isin barsiise sanatti isumaan jiraadhaa.
As for you, the anointing that you received from Him lives in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. Yet as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and not a lie; just as it has taught you, you live in Him.
28 Ammas yaa ijoolle, akka yommuu inni mulʼatutti ija jabina qabaannuuf, akka nu guyyaa dhufaatii isaattis fuula isaa duratti hin qaanofneef isaan jiraadhaa.
Now, little children, live in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming.
29 Isin yoo akka inni qajeelaa taʼe beektan, akka namni waan qajeelaa hojjetu hundinuu isa irraa dhalate ni beektu.
If you know that He is righteous, then know that everyone who also practices righteousness is born of Him.
