ହିତୋପଦେଶ 26
1 ଯେପରି ଗ୍ରୀଷ୍ମକାଳରେ ହିମ ଓ ଫସଲ ସମୟରେ ବୃଷ୍ଟି, ସେପରି ମୂର୍ଖକୁ ସମ୍ମାନ ଅନୁପଯୁକ୍ତ।
As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
2 ଯେପରି ଘରଚଟିଆ ଭ୍ରମଣ କରୁଥିବା ବେଳେ ଓ ତାଳଚୋଞ୍ଚ ଉଡ଼ୁଥିବା ବେଳେ, ସେପରି ଅକାରଣରେ ଦତ୍ତ ଅଭିଶାପ ନିକଟକୁ ଆସେ ନାହିଁ।
As the wandering sparrow, as the flying swallow, so the curse that is causeless shall come home.
3 ଅଶ୍ୱ ପାଇଁ କୋରଡ଼ା ଗର୍ଦ୍ଦଭ ପାଇଁ ଲଗାମ, ପୁଣି, ମୂର୍ଖର ପିଠି ପାଇଁ ବାଡ଼ି।
A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the back of fools.
4 ମୂର୍ଖକୁ ତାହାର ଅଜ୍ଞାନତାନୁସାରେ ଉତ୍ତର ଦିଅ ନାହିଁ, ଦେଲେ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ମଧ୍ୟ ତାହାର ସମାନ ହେବ।
Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
5 ମୂର୍ଖକୁ ତାହାର ଅଜ୍ଞାନତାନୁସାରେ ଉତ୍ତର ଦିଅ, ନୋହିଲେ ସେ ଆପଣା ଦୃଷ୍ଟିରେ ଆପଣାକୁ ଜ୍ଞାନୀ ବୋଧ କରିବ।
Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.
6 ମୂର୍ଖ ହାତରେ ଯେ ସମାଚାର ପଠାଏ, ସେ ଆପଣା ପାଦ ଆପେ କାଟି କ୍ଷତି ଭୋଗ କରେ।
He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off his own feet, and drinketh damage.
7 ନେଙ୍ଗଡ଼ାର ଚରଣ ଯେପରି ନଡ଼ନଡ଼, ଅଜ୍ଞାନର ମୁଖରେ ସେପରି ହିତୋପଦେଶ ବାକ୍ୟ।
The legs hang limp from the lame; so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
8 ଯେପରି ପ୍ରସ୍ତରରାଶିରେ ମଣିର ଥଳୀ, ସେପରି ସେ, ଯେ ମୂର୍ଖକୁ ସମ୍ମାନ ଦିଏ।
As a small stone in a heap of stones, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
9 ମତ୍ତ ଲୋକର ହସ୍ତରେ ଉଠାଯିବା କଣ୍ଟକ ଯେପରି, ମୂର୍ଖମାନଙ୍କ ମୁଖରେ ହିତୋପଦେଶ ବାକ୍ୟ ସେପରି।
As a thorn that cometh into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
10 ବାଣୁଆ ଯେପରି ସମସ୍ତଙ୍କୁ କ୍ଷତବିକ୍ଷତ କରେ, ସେପରି ସେହି ଲୋକ, ଯେ ମୂର୍ଖକୁ ବେତନ ଦିଏ ଓ ଯେ ପଥିକକୁ ବେତନ ଦିଏ।
A master performeth all things; but he that stoppeth a fool is as one that stoppeth a flood.
11 ଆପଣା ବାନ୍ତି ପ୍ରତି ଫେରିବା କୁକ୍କୁର ଯେପରି, ପୁନଃ ପୁନଃ ଆପଣା ଅଜ୍ଞାନତାର କର୍ମ କରିବା ମୂର୍ଖ ସେପରି।
As a dog that returneth to his vomit, so is a fool that repeateth his folly.
12 ଯେ ଆପଣା ଦୃଷ୍ଟିରେ ଜ୍ଞାନୀ, ଏପରି ଲୋକକୁ ଦେଖୁଅଛ କି? ତାହା ଅପେକ୍ଷା ମୂର୍ଖ ବିଷୟରେ ଅଧିକ ଭରସା ଅଛି।
Seest thou a man wise in his own eyes? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
13 ଅଳସୁଆ କହେ, “ବାଟରେ ସିଂହ ଅଛି, ସଡ଼କରେ ସିଂହ ଅଛି।”
The sluggard saith: 'There is a lion in the way; yea, a lion is in the streets.'
14 ଯେପରି କବ୍ଜାରେ କବାଟ ବୁଲେ, ସେପରି ଅଳସୁଆ ଆପଣା ଶଯ୍ୟାରେ ଥାଇ କରେ।
The door is turning upon its hinges, and the sluggard is still upon his bed.
15 ଅଳସୁଆ ଥାଳୀରେ ହାତ ବୁଡ଼ାଇ ଆଉ ଥରେ ତାହା ମୁଖକୁ ନେବାକୁ ଥକିଯାଏ।
The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish; it wearieth him to bring it back to his mouth.
16 ସାତ ଜଣ ସୁବିଚାରସିଦ୍ଧ ଉତ୍ତରକାରୀ ଅପେକ୍ଷା ଅଳସୁଆ ଆପଣା ଦୃଷ୍ଟିରେ ଜ୍ଞାନବାନ।
The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men that give wise answer.
17 ଯେଉଁ ଲୋକ ପଥରେ ଯାଉ ଯାଉ ଆପଣାର ଅସମ୍ପର୍କୀୟ ବିବାଦରେ ରାଗାନ୍ୱିତ ହୁଏ, ସେ କୁକ୍କୁର କାନ ଧରିବା ଲୋକ ତୁଲ୍ୟ।
He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife not his own, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.
18 ଅଗ୍ନିବାଣ, ତୀର ଓ ମୃତ୍ୟୁୁ ନିକ୍ଷେପକାରୀ ବାତୁଳ ଯେପରି;
As a madman who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death;
19 ଆପଣା ପ୍ରତିବାସୀକୁ ଯେଉଁ ଲୋକ ଭୁଲାଇ କହେ, “ମୁଁ କʼଣ କୌତୁକ କରୁ ନାହିଁ?” ସେ ସେପରି।
So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith: 'Am not I in sport?'
20 କାଷ୍ଠ ଶେଷ ହେଲେ ଅଗ୍ନି ଲିଭିଯାଏ, କର୍ଣ୍ଣେଜପ ନ ଥିଲେ କଳି ନିବୃତ୍ତ ହୁଏ।
Where no wood is, the fire goeth out; and where there is no whisperer, contention ceaseth.
21 ଯେପରି ଜ୍ୱଳନ୍ତା ଅଙ୍ଗାରକୁ ଅଙ୍ଗାର ଓ ଅଗ୍ନିକୁ କାଷ୍ଠ, ସେପରି ବିବାଦ ବଢ଼ାଇବାକୁ କଳିହୁଡ଼ା ଲୋକ।
As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
22 କର୍ଣ୍ଣେଜପର ବାକ୍ୟ ଅମୃତ ତୁଲ୍ୟ, ତାହା ଉଦରର ଅନ୍ତରାଳୟକୁ ଚାଲିଯାଏ।
The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the body.
23 ଅନୁରାଗୀ ଓଷ୍ଠ ଓ ମନ୍ଦ ହୃଦୟ ରୂପା ଖାଦରେ ମଣ୍ଡିତ ମୃତ୍ତିକା ପାତ୍ର ତୁଲ୍ୟ।
Burning lips and a wicked heart are like an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.
24 ଘୃଣାକାରୀ ଆପଣା ଓଷ୍ଠରେ କପଟ କରେ, ମାତ୍ର ମନରେ ପ୍ରବଞ୍ଚନା ରଖେ।
He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, but he layeth up deceit within him.
25 ସେ ମିଷ୍ଟ ସ୍ୱରରେ କହିଲେ, ତାହାକୁ ବିଶ୍ୱାସ କର ନାହିଁ, ଯେହେତୁ ତାହାର ହୃଦୟରେ ସାତୋଟି ଘୃଣ୍ୟ ବିଷୟ ଥାଏ।
When he speaketh fair, believe him not; for there are seven abominations in his heart.
26 ତାହାର ଘୃଣା କପଟରେ ଆପଣାକୁ ଆବୃତ କଲେ ହେଁ ତାହାର ମନ୍ଦତା ସଭାରେ ପ୍ରକାଶ ପାଇବ।
Though his hatred be concealed with deceit, his wickedness shall be revealed before the congregation.
27 ଯେ ଖାତ ଖୋଳେ, ସେ ଆପେ ତହିଁ ଭିତରେ ପଡ଼ିବ; ପୁଣି, ଯେ ପଥର ଗଡ଼ାଏ, ତାହା ତାହାର ଉପରକୁ ନେଉଟିବ।
Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein; and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.
28 ମିଥ୍ୟାବାଦୀ ଜିହ୍ୱା ଯାହାକୁ ଚୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ କରେ, ତାହାକୁ ହିଁ ଘୃଣା କରେ; ପୁଣି, ଚାଟୁବାଦୀ ମୁଖ ସର୍ବନାଶ ଜନ୍ମାଏ।
A lying tongue hateth those that are crushed by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
