ହିତୋପଦେଶ 25
1 ନିମ୍ନଲିଖିତ ହିତୋପଦେଶ ସକଳ ହିଁ ଶଲୋମନଙ୍କ ରଚିତ ଓ ଯିହୁଦାର ରାଜା ହିଜକୀୟର ଅଧିକାରୀମାନେ ତାହା ଉତ୍ତାରି ଥିଲେ।
These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
2 ବିଷୟ ଗୋପନ କରିବା ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କର ଗୌରବ; ମାତ୍ର ବିଷୟର ଅନୁସନ୍ଧାନ କରିବାର ରାଜାଙ୍କର ଗୌରବ।
It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
3 ଉଚ୍ଚତା ହେତୁ ସ୍ୱର୍ଗ ଓ ଗଭୀରତା ହେତୁ ପୃଥିବୀ, ଆଉ ରାଜାମାନଙ୍କ ହୃଦୟ ବୋଧାଗମ୍ୟ।
The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
4 ରୂପାରୁ ଖାଦ କାଢ଼ି ପକାଅ, ତେବେ ସୁନାରୀ ପାଇଁ ଏକ ପାତ୍ର ବାହାର ହେବ।
Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
5 ରାଜାର ସମ୍ମୁଖରୁ ଦୁଷ୍ଟମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦୂର କରିଦିଅ, ଆଉ, ତାହାର ସିଂହାସନ ଧର୍ମରେ ସୁସ୍ଥିର ହେବ।
Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
6 ରାଜାର ଛାମୁରେ ଆପଣାର ବଡ଼ାଇ କର ନାହିଁ, ପୁଣି, ପ୍ରଧାନ ଲୋକଙ୍କ ସ୍ଥାନରେ ଠିଆ ହୁଅ ନାହିଁ।
Put not forth yourself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:
7 କାରଣ ଯେଉଁ କୁଳୀନକୁ ତୁମ୍ଭର ଚକ୍ଷୁ ଦେଖିଅଛି, ତାହା ଛାମୁରେ ତୁମ୍ଭର ନୀଚୀକୃତ ହେବା ଅପେକ୍ଷା ବରଂ “ଏଠାକୁ ଆସ” ବୋଲି ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ କୁହାଯିବା ଭଲ।
For better it is that it be said unto you, Come up here; than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince whom your eyes have seen.
8 ବିବାଦ କରିବାକୁ ହଠାତ୍ ବାହାରକୁ ଯାଅ ନାହିଁ, ଗଲେ ତହିଁର ଶେଷରେ ତୁମ୍ଭ ପ୍ରତିବାସୀ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ଲଜ୍ଜିତ କଲା ଉତ୍ତାରେ ତୁମ୍ଭେ କଅଣ କରିବ?
Go not forth hastily to strive, lest you know not what to do in the end thereof, when your neighbour has put you to shame.
9 ଆପଣା ପ୍ରତିବାସୀ ସହିତ ଆପଣା ବିବାଦର ପ୍ରତିବାଦ କର, ପୁଣି, ପରର ଗୋପନୀୟ କଥା ପ୍ରକାଶ କର ନାହିଁ।
Debate your cause with your neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:
10 ନୋହିଲେ ଶ୍ରବଣକାରୀ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ତିରସ୍କାର କଲେ, ତୁମ୍ଭ ଅଖ୍ୟାତି ଘୁଞ୍ଚା ନୋହିବ।
Lest he that hears it put you to shame, and your ill repute turn not away.
11 ଯଥୋଚିତମତେ କଥିତ ବାକ୍ୟ ରୂପାପାତ୍ରରେ ସୁବର୍ଣ୍ଣ ନାରଙ୍ଗ ତୁଲ୍ୟ।
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
12 ସୁବର୍ଣ୍ଣ କର୍ଣ୍ଣକୁଣ୍ଡଳ ଓ ଶୁଦ୍ଧ ସୁବର୍ଣ୍ଣର ଅଳଙ୍କାର ଯେପରି, ମନୋଯୋଗକାରୀ କର୍ଣ୍ଣ ପ୍ରତି ଜ୍ଞାନବାନ ଭର୍ତ୍ସନାକାରୀ ସେପରି।
As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
13 ଫସଲ ସମୟରେ ହିମର ଶୀତଳତା ଯେପରି, ପ୍ରେରକଗଣ ପ୍ରତି ବିଶ୍ୱସ୍ତ ଦୂତ ସେପରି; କାରଣ ସେ ଆପଣା କର୍ତ୍ତାମାନଙ୍କ ପ୍ରାଣରେ ଆଶ୍ୱାସ ଦିଏ।
As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refreshes the soul of his masters.
14 ବୃଷ୍ଟିହୀନ ମେଘ ଓ ବାୟୁ ଯେପରି, ଆପଣା ଦାନ ବିଷୟରେ ମିଥ୍ୟା ଦର୍ପକାରୀ ସେପରି।
Whoso boasts himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
15 ଦୀର୍ଘସହିଷ୍ଣୁତା ଦ୍ୱାରା ଶାସନକର୍ତ୍ତା ମଣାଯାଏ, ପୁଣି, କୋମଳ ଜିହ୍ୱା ଅସ୍ଥି ଭଗ୍ନ କରେ।
By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaks the bone.
16 ତୁମ୍ଭେ କି ମଧୁ ପାଇଅଛ? ତୁମ୍ଭର ଯେତିକି ଯଥେଷ୍ଟ, ସେତିକି ଖାଅ; ବହୁତ ଖାଇଲେ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ତାହା ଉଦ୍ଗାର କରି ପକାଇବ।
Have you found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for you, lest you be filled therewith, and vomit it.
17 ତୁମ୍ଭର ପାଦ ତୁମ୍ଭ ପ୍ରତିବାସୀର ଗୃହରେ କ୍ୱଚିତ ପଡ଼ୁ, ନୋହିଲେ ତୁମ୍ଭ ବିଷୟରେ କ୍ଳାନ୍ତ ହୋଇ ସେ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ଘୃଣା କରିବ।
Withdraw your foot from your neighbour's house; lest he be weary of you, and so hate you.
18 ପ୍ରତିବାସୀ ବିରୁଦ୍ଧରେ ଯେ ମିଥ୍ୟା ସାକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ଦିଏ, ସେ ଗଦା, ଖଡ୍ଗ ଓ ତୀକ୍ଷ୍ଣ ତୀର ସ୍ୱରୂପ;
A man that bears false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
19 ଦୁର୍ଦ୍ଦଶା ସମୟରେ ବିଶ୍ୱାସଘାତକ ଲୋକଠାରେ ବିଶ୍ୱାସ, ଭଗ୍ନ ଦନ୍ତ ଓ ଖଞ୍ଜଖସା ଚରଣ ତୁଲ୍ୟ।
Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
20 ଶୀତକାଳରେ ବସ୍ତ୍ର କାଢ଼ି ନେବା ଓ ଘା ଉପରେ ଅମ୍ଳରସ ମିଶାଇବା ଲୋକ ଯେପରି, ଦୁଃଖିତମନା ନିକଟରେ ଗୀତ ଗାଇବା ଲୋକ ସେପରି।
As he that takes away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon alkali, so is he that sings songs to an heavy heart.
21 ତୁମ୍ଭର ଶତ୍ରୁ କ୍ଷୁଧିତ ହେଲେ, ତାହାକୁ ଅନ୍ନ ଭୋଜନ କରାଅ; ପୁଣି, ସେ ତୃଷିତ ହେଲେ, ତାହାକୁ ଜଳ ପାନ କରାଅ;
If your enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
22 ତହିଁରେ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ତାହାର ମସ୍ତକରେ ଜ୍ୱଳ ଅଙ୍ଗାର ରାଶି କରି ଥୋଇବ, ପୁଣି, ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ପୁରସ୍କାର ଦେବେ।
For you shall heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward you.
23 ଯେପରି ଉତ୍ତରୀୟ ବାୟୁ ବୃଷ୍ଟିର ଉତ୍ପାଦକ, ସେପରି ଖଚୁଆର ଜିହ୍ୱା କ୍ରୋଧଦୃଷ୍ଟିର ଉତ୍ପାଦକ।
The north wind drives away rain: so does an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
24 କଳିହୁଡ଼ୀ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀ ସଙ୍ଗରେ ଏକା ଗୃହରେ ବାସ କରିବା ଅପେକ୍ଷା ଛାତର ଏକ କୋଣରେ ବାସ କରିବାର ଭଲ।
It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
25 ତୃଷିତ ପ୍ରାଣକୁ ଶୀତଳ ଜଳ ଯେରୂପ, ଦୂର ଦେଶରୁ ସୁସମାଚାର ସେରୂପ।
As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
26 ଗୋଳିଆ ଜଳାଶୟ ଓ ମଳିନ ନିର୍ଝର ଯେରୂପ, ଦୁଷ୍ଟ ଲୋକ ଆଗରେ ବିଚଳିତ ଧାର୍ମିକ ସେରୂପ।
A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
27 ବହୁତ ମହୁ ଖାଇବାର ଯେପରି ଭଲ ନୁହେଁ, ସେପରି ମନୁଷ୍ୟମାନେ ଆପଣା ଗୌରବ ଅନୁସନ୍ଧାନ କରିବାର ଗୌରବ ନୁହେଁ।
It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.
28 ଯାହାର ଆତ୍ମା ଅଟକ ମାନେ ନାହିଁ, ସେ ଭଗ୍ନ ଓ ପ୍ରାଚୀରହୀନ ନଗର ତୁଲ୍ୟ।
He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
