ପ୍ରଥମ ଶାମୁୟେଲ 1

1 ଇଫ୍ରୟିମ-ପର୍ବତମୟ ଦେଶସ୍ଥ ରାମାଥୟିମ୍‍ସୂଫୀମର ଏକ ଇଫ୍ରୟିମୀୟ ଲୋକ ଥିଲା, ତାହାର ନାମ ଇଲ୍‍କାନା, ସେ ସୂଫର ବୃଦ୍ଧ ପ୍ରପୌତ୍ର, ତୋହର ପ୍ରପୌତ୍ର, ଇଲୀହୂର ପୁତ୍ର, ଯିରୋହମର ପୁତ୍ର;

There was a certain man of Ramathaim of the Zuphites, of the hill country of Ephraim; his name was Elkanah son of Jeroham son of Elihu son of Tohu son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.

2 ପୁଣି, ତାହାର ଦୁଇ ଭାର୍ଯ୍ୟା ଥିଲେ; ଜଣକର ନାମ ହାନ୍ନା, ଅନ୍ୟର ନାମ ପନିନ୍ନା; ପନିନ୍ନାର ସନ୍ତାନସନ୍ତତି ଥିଲେ, ମାତ୍ର ହାନ୍ନାର କୌଣସି ସନ୍ତାନସନ୍ତତି ନ ଥିଲେ।

He had two wives; the name of the first was Hannah, and the name of the second was Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had none.

3 ସେହି ବ୍ୟକ୍ତି ବର୍ଷକୁ ବର୍ଷ ସୈନ୍ୟାଧିପତି ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ନିକଟରେ ଆରାଧନା ଓ ବଳିଦାନ କରିବା ନିମନ୍ତେ ଆପଣା ନଗରରୁ ଶୀଲୋକୁ ଯାଉଥାଏ। ସେହି ସ୍ଥାନରେ ଏଲିଙ୍କର ଦୁଇ ପୁତ୍ର ହଫ୍ନି ଓ ପୀନହସ୍‍ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଯାଜକ ଥିଲେ।

This man went from his city year after year to worship and to sacrifice to Yahweh of hosts in Shiloh. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Yahweh, were there.

4 ପୁଣି, ଇଲ୍‍କାନା ବଳିଦାନ କରିବା ଦିନରେ ସେ ଆପଣା ଭାର୍ଯ୍ୟା ପନିନ୍ନାକୁ ଓ ତାହାର ପୁତ୍ରକନ୍ୟା ସମସ୍ତଙ୍କୁ ଅଂଶ ଦେଲା;

When the day came for Elkanah to sacrifice each year, he always gave portions of the meat to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters.

5 ମାତ୍ର ସେ ହାନ୍ନାକୁ ଦ୍ୱିଗୁଣ ଅଂଶ ଦେଲା; କାରଣ ସେ ହାନ୍ନାକୁ ପ୍ରେମ କରୁଥିଲେ, ମାତ୍ର ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ତାହାର ଗର୍ଭାଶୟ ରୁଦ୍ଧ କରିଥିଲେ।

But to Hannah he always gave a double portion, for he loved Hannah, although Yahweh had closed her womb.

6 ପୁଣି, ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ତାହାର ଗର୍ଭାଶୟ ରୁଦ୍ଧ କରିବାରୁ ତାହାର ସପତ୍ନୀ ତାହାର ରୋଷ ଜନ୍ମାଇବା ନିମନ୍ତେ ତାହାକୁ ଅତିଶୟ ବିରକ୍ତ କରେ।

Her rival provoked her severely in order to irritate her, because Yahweh had closed her womb.

7 ସେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଗୃହକୁ ଗଲା ବେଳେ ତାହାର ସ୍ୱାମୀ ବର୍ଷକୁ ବର୍ଷ ଏପରି କରେ, ତାହାର ସପତ୍ନୀ ମଧ୍ୟ ସେହିପରି ତାହାକୁ ବିରକ୍ତ କରେ; ଏହେତୁ ସେ ରୋଦନ କରେ, ଆଉ କିଛି ଖାଏ ନାହିଁ।

So year after year, when she went up to the house of Yahweh with her family, her rival always provoked her. Therefore she used to weep and eat nothing.

8 ଏଥିରେ ତାହାର ସ୍ୱାମୀ ଇଲ୍‍କାନା ତାହାକୁ କହିଲା, “ହାନ୍ନା, କାହିଁକି ରୋଦନ କରୁଅଛ? କାହିଁକି ଖାଉ ନାହଁ? କାହିଁକି ତୁମ୍ଭ ମନ ଦୁଃଖିତ ହୋଇଅଛି? ମୁଁ କି ଦଶ ପୁତ୍ରଠାରୁ ତୁମ୍ଭ ପ୍ରତି ଉତ୍ତମ ନୁହେଁ?”

Elkanah her husband always said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why do you not eat? Why is your heart sad? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”

9 ଏହିରୂପେ ଏକ ସମୟରେ ସେମାନେ ଶୀଲୋରେ ଭୋଜନପାନ ସମାପ୍ତ କଲା ଉତ୍ତାରେ ହାନ୍ନା ଉଠିଲା। ସେସମୟରେ ଏଲି ଯାଜକ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ମନ୍ଦିର-ଦ୍ୱାରବନ୍ଧ ନିକଟସ୍ଥ ଆପଣା ଆସନରେ ବସିଥିଲେ।

On one of these occasions, Hannah rose up after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting upon his seat by the doorway to the temple of Yahweh.

10 ପୁଣି, ହାନ୍ନା ତିକ୍ତମନା ହୋଇ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ନିକଟରେ ପ୍ରାର୍ଥନା କରୁ କରୁ ଅତିଶୟ ରୋଦନ କଲା।

She was deeply distressed; she prayed to Yahweh and wept bitterly.

11 ପୁଣି, ସେ ଏକ ମାନତ ମନାସି କହିଲା; “ହେ ସୈନ୍ୟାଧିପତି ସଦାପ୍ରଭୋ, ଯେବେ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଆପଣା ଦାସୀର ଦୁଃଖ ପ୍ରତି ନିତାନ୍ତ ଦୃଷ୍ଟିପାତ କରିବ ଓ ମୋତେ ସ୍ମରଣ କରି ଆପଣା ଦାସୀକୁ ପାସୋରିବ ନାହିଁ, ମାତ୍ର ଆପଣା ଦାସୀକୁ ଗୋଟିଏ ପୁରୁଷ-ସନ୍ତାନ ଦେବ, ତେବେ ମୁଁ ତାହାର ଯାବଜ୍ଜୀବନ ତାହାକୁ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟରେ ଦାନ କରିବି ଓ ତାହାର ମସ୍ତକରେ କ୍ଷୁର ଲାଗିବ ନାହିଁ।”

She made a vow and said, “Yahweh of hosts, if you will look on the affliction of your servant and call me to mind, and do not forget your servant, but give your servant a son, then I will give him to Yahweh all the days of his life, and no razor will ever touch his head.”

12 ଏହିରୂପେ ସେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ସାକ୍ଷାତରେ ପ୍ରାର୍ଥନା କରୁଥିବା ସମୟରେ ଏଲି ତାହାର ମୁଖକୁ ଅନାଇଲେ।

As she continued praying before Yahweh, Eli watched her mouth.

13 ସେସମୟରେ ହାନ୍ନା ଆପଣା ମନେ ମନେ କଥା କହୁଥିଲା; କେବଳ ତାହାର ଓଷ୍ଠ ହଲୁଥିଲା, ମାତ୍ର ତାହାର ରବ ଶୁଣାଯାଉ ନ ଥିଲା; ତେଣୁ ସେ ମତ୍ତ ହୋଇଥିବ ବୋଲି ଏଲି ବିଚାର କଲେ।

Hannah spoke in her heart. Her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk.

14 ତହିଁରେ ଏଲି ତାହାକୁ କହିଲେ, “ତୁମ୍ଭେ କେତେ କାଳ ମତ୍ତ ହୋଇଥିବ? ତୁମ୍ଭ ଦ୍ରାକ୍ଷାରସ ତୁମ୍ଭଠାରୁ ଦୂର କର।”

Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Get rid of your wine.”

15 ଏଥିରେ ହାନ୍ନା ଉତ୍ତର ଦେଇ କହିଲା, “ନା, ମୋହର ପ୍ରଭୋ, ମୁଁ ଦୁଃଖିନୀ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀ; ମୁଁ ଦ୍ରାକ୍ଷାରସ କି ମଦ୍ୟ ପାନ କରି ନାହିଁ, ମାତ୍ର ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ସମ୍ମୁଖରେ ମୁଁ ଆପଣା ପ୍ରାଣ (ବେଦନା) ଢାଳୁଥିଲି।”

Hannah answered, “No, my master, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have been pouring out my soul before Yahweh.

16 ଆପଣା ଦାସୀକୁ ବେକାର ସ୍ତ୍ରୀ ବୋଲି ଜ୍ଞାନ ନ କର; ମୁଁ ଆପଣା ଚିନ୍ତା ଓ ବିରକ୍ତିର ବାହୁଲ୍ୟ ସକାଶୁ ଏପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ କଥା କହୁଥିଲି।

Do not consider your servant to be a shameless woman; I have been speaking out of the abundance of my great concern and provocation.”

17 ତହିଁରେ ଏଲି ଉତ୍ତର ଦେଇ କହିଲେ, “କୁଶଳରେ ଯାଅ; ଯାହା ତୁମ୍ଭେ ମାଗିଲ, ଇସ୍ରାଏଲର ପରମେଶ୍ୱର ତୁମ୍ଭର ସେହି ନିବେଦନ ଅନୁସାରେ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ଦେଉନ୍ତୁ।”

Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace; may the God of Israel grant the request that you have asked him for.”

18 ତହୁଁ ସେ କହିଲା, “ତୁମ୍ଭ ଦାସୀ ତୁମ୍ଭ ଦୃଷ୍ଟିରେ ଅନୁଗ୍ରହପ୍ରାପ୍ତ ହେଉ।” ଆଉ ସେ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀ ଆପଣା ପଥରେ ଗଲା ଓ ଭୋଜନ କଲା, ପୁଣି, ତାହାର ମୁଖ ଆଉ ବିଷଣ୍ଣ ନୋହିଲା।

She said, “Let your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then the woman went her way and ate; her face was no longer sad.

19 ଏଉତ୍ତାରେ ସେମାନେ ଅତି ପ୍ରଭାତରେ ଉଠି ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଆରାଧନା କରି ଫେରିଲେ ଓ ଆପଣାମାନଙ୍କ ବାସସ୍ଥାନ ରାମାକୁ ଆସିଲେ; ଆଉ ଇଲ୍‍କାନା ଆପଣା ଭାର୍ଯ୍ୟା ହାନ୍ନାର ସହବାସ କରନ୍ତେ, ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ତାହାକୁ ସ୍ମରଣ କଲେ।

They rose early in the morning and worshiped before Yahweh, and then they returned again to their house in Ramah. Elkanah slept with Hannah his wife, and Yahweh called her to mind.

20 ପୁଣି, ସମୟ ଉପସ୍ଥିତ ହୁଅନ୍ତେ, ହାନ୍ନା ଗର୍ଭଧାରଣ କରି ପୁତ୍ର ପ୍ରସବ କଲା; “ଆଉ ମୁଁ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କୁ ମାଗିଥିଲି, ଏହା କହି ତାହାର ନାମ ଶାମୁୟେଲ (ପରମେଶ୍ୱର ଦତ୍ତ) ରଖିଲା।”

When the time came, Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She called his name Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked for him from Yahweh.”

21 ଏଉତ୍ତାରେ ଇଲ୍‍କାନା ଓ ତାହାର ଗୃହସ୍ଥ ସମସ୍ତେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟରେ ବାର୍ଷିକ ବଳିଦାନ ଓ ଆପଣା ମାନତ ନିବେଦନ କରିବାକୁ ଗଲେ।

Once again, Elkanah and all his house went up to offer to Yahweh the yearly sacrifice and pay his vow.

22 ମାତ୍ର ହାନ୍ନା ଗଲା ନାହିଁ; କାରଣ ସେ ଆପଣା ସ୍ୱାମୀକୁ କହିଲା, “ବାଳକ ସ୍ତନ୍ୟପାନ ତ୍ୟାଗ କରିବା ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ (ମୁଁ ଯିବି ନାହିଁ), ତହିଁ ଉତ୍ତାରେ ମୁଁ ତାହାକୁ ନେଇଯିବି, ତହିଁରେ ସେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ସାକ୍ଷାତରେ ଉପସ୍ଥିତ ହେବ ଓ ସେଠାରେ ସର୍ବଦା ରହିବ।”

But Hannah did not go; she had said to her husband, “I will not go until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, so that he may appear before Yahweh and live there forever.”

23 ତହୁଁ ତାହାର ସ୍ୱାମୀ ଇଲ୍‍କାନା ତାହାକୁ କହିଲା, “ଯାହା ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ଭଲ ଦିଶେ, କର; ତାହାକୁ ସ୍ତନ୍ୟପାନ ତ୍ୟାଗ କରାଇବା ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ରୁହ; ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ କେବଳ ଆପଣା ବାକ୍ୟ ସ୍ଥିର କରନ୍ତୁ।” ତେଣୁ ସେହି ସ୍ତ୍ରୀ ଆପଣା ପୁତ୍ରକୁ ସ୍ତନ୍ୟପାନ ତ୍ୟାଗ କରାଇବା ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଅପେକ୍ଷା କରି ସ୍ତନ୍ୟପାନ କରାଇଲା।

Elkanah her husband said to her, “Do what seems good to you. Wait until you have weaned him; only, may Yahweh confirm his word.” So the woman stayed and nursed her son until she weaned him.

24 ଏଥିଉତ୍ତାରେ ସେ ତାହାକୁ ସ୍ତନ୍ୟପାନ ତ୍ୟାଗ କରାନ୍ତେ, ତିନି ଗୋବତ୍ସ ଓ ଏକ ଐଫା ମଇଦା ଓ ଏକ କୁମ୍ପା ଦ୍ରାକ୍ଷାରସ ସହିତ ତାହାକୁ ଶୀଲୋସ୍ଥିତ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଗୃହକୁ ଆଣିଲା; ସେତେବେଳେ ବାଳକ ଅଳ୍ପ ବୟସ୍କ ଥିଲା।

When she had weaned him, she took him with her, along with a three-year-old bull, one ephah of meal, and a bottle of wine, and brought him to the house of Yahweh in Shiloh. Now the child was still young.

25 ତହୁଁ ସେମାନେ ଗୋବତ୍ସ ବଧ କରି ବାଳକକୁ ଏଲିଙ୍କ କତିକି ଆଣିଲେ।

They killed the bull, and they brought the child to Eli.

26 ତହିଁରେ ସେ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀ କହିଲା, “ହେ ମୋହର ପ୍ରଭୋ, ତୁମ୍ଭ ପ୍ରାଣ ଜୀବିତ ଥିବା ପ୍ରମାଣେ, ହେ ମୋହର ପ୍ରଭୋ, ଯେଉଁ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ନିକଟରେ ପ୍ରାର୍ଥନା କରୁ କରୁ ଏହି ସ୍ଥାନରେ ତୁମ୍ଭ ସମ୍ମୁଖରେ ଠିଆ ହୋଇଥିଲା, ମୁଁ ସେହି।

She said, “Oh, my master! As you live, my master, I am the woman who stood here next to you praying to Yahweh.

27 ଏହି ବାଳକ ନିମନ୍ତେ ମୁଁ ପ୍ରାର୍ଥନା କରିଥିଲି; ଆଉ ମୁଁ ଯାହା ମାଗିଥିଲି, ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ମୋହର ସେହି ନିବେଦନ ଅନୁସାରେ ମୋତେ ଦେଇଅଛନ୍ତି।

For this child I prayed and Yahweh has given me my petition which I asked of him.

28 ଏଣୁ ମୁଁ ମଧ୍ୟ ତାହାକୁ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟରେ ନିବେଦନ କଲି; ସେ ଯାବଜ୍ଜୀବନ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟରେ ସମର୍ପଣ ହେଲା,” ଏଉତ୍ତାରେ ସେ ସେଠାରେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କର ଆରାଧନା କଲା।

I have given him to Yahweh, as long as he lives he is lent to Yahweh.” Then he worshiped Yahweh there.
