ପ୍ରଥମ ଶାମୁୟେଲ 8
1 ଏଥିଉତ୍ତାରେ ଶାମୁୟେଲ ବୃଦ୍ଧ ହୁଅନ୍ତେ, ଆପଣା ପୁତ୍ରମାନଙ୍କୁ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ଉପରେ ବିଚାରକର୍ତ୍ତା କଲେ।
And it happened that, when Samuel had become old, he appointed his sons as judges over Israel.
2 ତାଙ୍କର ଜ୍ୟେଷ୍ଠ ପୁତ୍ରର ନାମ ଯୋୟେଲ ଓ ଦ୍ୱିତୀୟର ନାମ ଅବୀୟ; ଏମାନେ ବେର୍ଶେବାରେ ବିଚାରକର୍ତ୍ତା ଥିଲେ।
Now the name of his firstborn son was Joel, and the name of the second was Abijah: judges at Beersheba.
3 ମାତ୍ର ତାଙ୍କର ପୁତ୍ରମାନେ ତାଙ୍କର ପଥରେ ନ ଚାଲି ଅନ୍ୟାୟ ଲାଭର ଅନୁଗାମୀ ହେଲେ ଓ ଲାଞ୍ଚ ନେଇ ବିଚାର ବିପରୀତ କଲେ।
But his sons did not walk in his ways. Instead, they turned aside, pursuing avarice. And they accepted bribes, and they perverted judgment.
4 ତହିଁରେ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲର ସମସ୍ତ ପ୍ରାଚୀନବର୍ଗ ଏକତ୍ର ହୋଇ ରାମାରେ ଶାମୁୟେଲଙ୍କ ନିକଟକୁ ଆସିଲେ;
Therefore, all those greater by birth of Israel, having gathered together, went to Samuel at Ramah.
5 ପୁଣି, ସେମାନେ ତାଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, “ଦେଖ, ତୁମ୍ଭେ ବୃଦ୍ଧ ହେଲ, ପୁଣି, ତୁମ୍ଭର ପୁତ୍ରମାନେ ତୁମ୍ଭ ପଥରେ ଚାଲୁ ନାହାନ୍ତି; ଏହେତୁ ଅନ୍ୟ ସକଳ ଦେଶୀୟମାନଙ୍କ ପରି ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ବିଚାର କରିବାକୁ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଏକ ରାଜା ନିଯୁକ୍ତ କର।”
And they said to him: “Behold, you are elderly, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Appoint for us a king, so that he may judge us, just as all the nations have.”
6 ମାତ୍ର ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ବିଚାର କରିବା ପାଇଁ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଏକ ରାଜା ଦିଅ, ସେମାନେ ଏହି କଥା କହିବା ବେଳେ ଶାମୁୟେଲଙ୍କର ଦୃଷ୍ଟିରେ ତାହା ମନ୍ଦ ବୋଧ ହେଲା। ଏଥିରେ ଶାମୁୟେଲ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ନିକଟରେ ପ୍ରାର୍ଥନା କଲେ।
And the word was displeasing in the eyes of Samuel, for they had said, “Give us a king to judge us.” And Samuel prayed to the Lord.
7 ସେତେବେଳେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଶାମୁୟେଲଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, “ଏହି ଲୋକମାନେ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ଯାହା ଯାହା କହନ୍ତି, ସେହି ସବୁ ରବରେ କର୍ଣ୍ଣପାତ କର; କାରଣ ସେମାନେ କେବଳ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ଅଗ୍ରାହ୍ୟ କରି ନାହାନ୍ତି, ମାତ୍ର ଆମ୍ଭେ ଯେପରି ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ରାଜା ନୋହିବା, ଏଥିପାଇଁ ସେମାନେ ଆମ୍ଭକୁ ଅଗ୍ରାହ୍ୟ କରିଅଛନ୍ତି।
Then the Lord said to Samuel: “Listen to the voice of the people in all that they are saying to you. For they have not rejected you, but me, lest I reign over them.
8 ଆମ୍ଭେ ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ମିସରରୁ ବାହାର କରି ଆଣିବା ଦିନାବଧି ଆଜି ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ସେମାନେ ଆମ୍ଭକୁ ପରିତ୍ୟାଗ କରି ଅନ୍ୟ ଦେବଗଣର ସେବା କରି ଯେସମସ୍ତ କର୍ମ କରିଅଛନ୍ତି, ତଦନୁସାରେ ସେମାନେ ତୁମ୍ଭ ପ୍ରତି ମଧ୍ୟ କରୁଅଛନ୍ତି।
In accord with all their works, which they have done from the day when I led them away from Egypt, even to this day: just as they have forsaken me, and served foreign gods, so now they also do to you.
9 ଏହେତୁ ଏବେ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ରବରେ କର୍ଣ୍ଣପାତ କର; ତଥାପି ତୁମ୍ଭେ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ବିରୁଦ୍ଧରେ ସ୍ପଷ୍ଟ ସାକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ଦିଅ ଓ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ଯେ ରାଜତ୍ୱ କରିବେ, ସେହି ରାଜାର ବିଧି ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ଜଣାଅ।”
Now therefore, hear their voice. Yet truly, testify to them and foretell to them the rights of the king who will reign over them.”
10 ଏଉତ୍ତାରେ ଯେଉଁମାନେ ଶାମୁୟେଲଙ୍କୁ ରାଜା ମାଗିଥିଲେ, ସେହି ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ ସେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କର ସମସ୍ତ କଥା ଜଣାଇଲେ।
And so, Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people, who had petitioned a king from him.
11 ଆହୁରି ସେ କହିଲେ, “ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ଯେ ରାଜତ୍ୱ କରିବ, ସେହି ରାଜାର ଏହି ପ୍ରକାର ବିଧି ହେବ; ସେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ପୁତ୍ରଗଣକୁ ନେଇ ଆପଣା ରଥ ନିମନ୍ତେ ଓ ଆପଣାର ଅଶ୍ୱାରୋହୀ ହେବା ନିମନ୍ତେ ନିଯୁକ୍ତ କରିବ ଓ ସେମାନେ ତାହାର ରଥ ଆଗେ ଆଗେ ଦୌଡ଼ିବେ।
And he said: “This will be the right of the king who will have authority over you: He will take your sons, and place them in his chariots. And he will make them his horsemen and his runners before his four-horse chariots.
12 ପୁଣି, ସେ ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ଆପଣାର ସହସ୍ରପତି ଓ ପଚାଶପତି କରି ନିଯୁକ୍ତ କରିବ ଓ ସେ ଆପଣା ଭୂମି ଚାଷ କରିବାକୁ ଓ ଆପଣା ଶସ୍ୟ କାଟିବାକୁ ଓ ଆପଣା ଯୁଦ୍ଧାସ୍ତ୍ର ଓ ଆପଣା ରଥସଜ୍ଜା ନିର୍ମାଣ କରିବାକୁ ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ କାହାକୁ କାହାକୁ ନିଯୁକ୍ତ କରିବ।
And he will appoint them to be his tribunes and centurions, and the plowmen of his fields, and the harvesters of the grain, and the makers of his weapons and chariots.
13 ଆଉ ସେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ କନ୍ୟାଗଣକୁ ନେଇ ଗନ୍ଧଦ୍ରବ୍ୟ ପ୍ରସ୍ତୁତକାରିଣୀ ଓ ପାଚିକା ଓ ସୂପକାରିଣୀ କରିବ।
Likewise, your daughters he will take for himself as makers of ointments, and as cooks and bakers.
14 ଆହୁରି ସେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଶସ୍ୟକ୍ଷେତ୍ର ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଦ୍ରାକ୍ଷାକ୍ଷେତ୍ର ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଜୀତକ୍ଷେତ୍ର ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ସର୍ବୋତ୍ତମ କ୍ଷେତ୍ରସବୁ ନେଇ ଆପଣା ଦାସମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦେବ।
Also, he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your best olive groves, and he will give them to his servants.
15 ପୁଣି, ସେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ବିହନର ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଦ୍ରାକ୍ଷାର ଦଶମାଂଶ ନେଇ ଆପଣାର ଗୃହାଧ୍ୟକ୍ଷ ଓ ଦାସମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦେବ।
Moreover, he will take one tenth of your grain and of the results of your vineyards, so that he may give these to his eunuchs and servants.
16 ଆଉ ସେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଦାସମାନଙ୍କୁ ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଦାସୀମାନଙ୍କୁ ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ସର୍ବୋତ୍ତମ ଯୁବା ପୁରୁଷମାନଙ୍କୁ ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଗର୍ଦ୍ଦଭ ସକଳ ନେଇ ଆପଣା କାର୍ଯ୍ୟରେ ଲଗାଇବ।
Then, too, he will take your servants, and handmaids, and your best young men, and your donkeys, and he will set them to his work.
17 ସେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ମେଷପଲର ଦଶମାଂଶ ନେବ ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ତାହାର ଦାସ ହେବ।
Also, he will take a tenth of your flocks. And you will be his servants.
18 ପୁଣି, ସେସମୟରେ ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଆପଣା ମନୋନୀତ ରାଜା ସକାଶୁ କ୍ରନ୍ଦନ କରିବ; ମାତ୍ର ସେସମୟରେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଉତ୍ତର ଦେବେ ନାହିଁ।”
And you will cry out, in that day, from the face of the king, whom you have chosen for yourselves. And the Lord will not heed you, in that day. For you requested a king for yourselves.”
19 ତଥାପି ଲୋକମାନେ ଶାମୁୟେଲଙ୍କର ରବ ଶୁଣିବାକୁ ନାସ୍ତି କଲେ; ଆଉ ସେମାନେ କହିଲେ, “ନା; ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ଜଣେ ରାଜା ହେଉନ୍ତୁ;
But the people were not willing to listen to the voice of Samuel. Instead, they said: “By no means! For there shall be a king over us,
20 ତହିଁରେ ଆମ୍ଭେମାନେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଅନ୍ୟସବୁ ଦେଶୀୟଙ୍କ ପରି ହେବା; ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ରାଜା ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ବିଚାର କରିବେ ଓ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଅଗ୍ରସର ହୋଇ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଯୁଦ୍ଧ କରିବେ।”
and we shall be just like all the Gentiles. And our king will judge us, and he will go out before us, and he will fight our wars for us.”
21 ଏଥିରେ ଶାମୁୟେଲ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କର ସମସ୍ତ କଥା ଶୁଣି ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ କର୍ଣ୍ଣଗୋଚରରେ ତାହା କହିଲେ।
And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he spoke them to the ears of the Lord.
22 ତହୁଁ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଶାମୁୟେଲଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, “ସେମାନଙ୍କ ରବ ଶୁଣ ଓ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଜଣେ ରାଜା ସ୍ଥିର କର।” ଏଉତ୍ତାରେ ଶାମୁୟେଲ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, “ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକେ ଆପଣା ଆପଣା ନଗରକୁ ଯାଅ।”
Then the Lord said to Samuel, “Listen to their voice, and appoint a king over them.” And Samuel said to the men of Israel, “Let each one go to his own city.”
