ପ୍ରଥମ ଶାମୁୟେଲ 17
1 ଏଥିଉତ୍ତାରେ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟମାନେ ଯୁଦ୍ଧ କରିବାକୁ ଆପଣାମାନଙ୍କ ସୈନ୍ୟସାମନ୍ତ ସଂଗ୍ରହ କଲେ, ଆଉ ସେମାନେ ଯିହୁଦାର ଅଧିକାରସ୍ଥ ସୋଖୋରେ ସଂଗୃହୀତ ହୋଇ ସୋଖୋ ଓ ଅସେକା ମଧ୍ୟରେ ଏଫସ୍-ଦମ୍ମୀମରେ ଛାଉଣି ସ୍ଥାପନ କଲେ।
Now the Philistines gathered their forces for war at Socoh in Judah, and they camped between Socoh and Azekah in Ephes-dammim.
2 ପୁଣି, ଶାଉଲ ଓ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ଲୋକମାନେ ସଂଗୃହୀତ ହୋଇ ଏଲା ତଳଭୂମିରେ ଛାଉଣି ସ୍ଥାପନ କଲେ ଓ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟମାନଙ୍କ ବିରୁଦ୍ଧରେ ସୈନ୍ୟ ସଜାଇଲେ।
Saul and the men of Israel assembled and camped in the Valley of Elah, arraying themselves for battle against the Philistines.
3 ତହିଁରେ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟମାନେ ପର୍ବତର ଏକ ଦିଗରେ ଓ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲୀୟମାନେ ପର୍ବତର ଅନ୍ୟ ଦିଗରେ ଠିଆ ହେଲେ; ପୁଣି, ଉଭୟଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ଉପତ୍ୟକା ଥିଲା।
The Philistines stood on one hill and the Israelites stood on another, with the valley between them.
4 ଏଥିରେ ଗାଥ୍ ନିବାସୀ ଗଲୀୟାତ ନାମକ ଏକ ମଲ୍ଲଯୋଦ୍ଧା ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟମାନଙ୍କ ଛାଉଣିରୁ ବାହାର ହେଲା, ସେ ସାଢ଼େ ଛଅ ହାତ ଉଚ୍ଚ।
Then a champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out from the Philistine camp. He was six cubits and a span in height,
5 ପୁଣି, ତାହାର ମସ୍ତକରେ ପିତ୍ତଳର ଟୋପର ଥିଲା ଓ ସେ ମାଛକାତି ତୁଲ୍ୟ ସାଞ୍ଜୁଆରେ ସଜ୍ଜିତ ଥିଲା ଓ ସେହି ସାଞ୍ଜୁଆ ପାଞ୍ଚ ସହସ୍ର ଶେକଲ ପରିମିତ ପିତ୍ତଳର ଥିଲା।
and he had a bronze helmet on his head. He wore a bronze coat of mail weighing five thousand shekels,
6 ତାହାର ପାଦ ପିତ୍ତଳ-ପତ୍ରରେ ଆବୃତ ଓ ତାହାର କାନ୍ଧରେ ପିତ୍ତଳର ଶଲ୍ୟ ଥିଲା।
and he had armor of bronze on his legs and a javelin of bronze slung between his shoulders.
7 ତାହାର ବର୍ଚ୍ଛାର ଦଣ୍ଡ ତନ୍ତୀର ନରାଜ ତୁଲ୍ୟ ଓ ତାହାର ବର୍ଚ୍ଛାର ଫଳକର ପରିମାଣ ଛଅ ଶହ ଶେକଲ ଲୁହା ଥିଲା; ପୁଣି, ତାହା ଆଗେ ଆଗେ ତାହାର ଢାଲବାହକ ଚାଲିଲା।
The shaft of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels. In addition, his shield bearer went before him.
8 ଆଉ ସେ ଛିଡ଼ା ହୋଇ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲର ସୈନ୍ୟଶ୍ରେଣୀ ଆଡ଼େ ଡାକି ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ କହିଲା, “ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ କାହିଁକି ଯୁଦ୍ଧ ସାଜିବା ପାଇଁ ବାହାର ହୋଇ ଆସିଅଛ? ମୁଁ କି ସେହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ଲୋକ ନୁହେଁ? ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ କି ଶାଉଲର ଦାସ ନୁହଁ? ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଆପଣାମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଜଣେ ଲୋକ ମନୋନୀତ କର ଓ ସେ ମୋହର କତିକି ଓହ୍ଲାଇ ଆସୁ।
And Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why do you come out and array yourselves for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not servants of Saul? Choose one of your men and have him come down against me.
9 ସେ ଯେବେ ମୋʼ ସଙ୍ଗେ ଯୁଦ୍ଧ କରି ପାରିବ ଓ ମୋତେ ବଧ କରିବ, ତେବେ ଆମ୍ଭେମାନେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ଦାସ ହେବୁ; ମାତ୍ର ଯେବେ ମୁଁ ତାହାକୁ ପାରିବି ଓ ବଧ କରିବି, ତେବେ ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ଦାସ ହେବ ଓ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ଦାସ୍ୟକର୍ମ କରିବ।”
If he is able to fight me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and labor for us.”
10 ଆହୁରି ସେ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ କହିଲା, “ଆଜି ମୁଁ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲର ସୈନ୍ୟଶ୍ରେଣୀକୁ ତୁଚ୍ଛ କରୁଅଛି; ମୋତେ ଜଣେ ଲୋକ ଦିଅ, ଆମ୍ଭେମାନେ ପରସ୍ପର ଯୁଦ୍ଧ କରିବୁ।”
Then the Philistine said, “I defy the ranks of Israel this day! Give me a man to fight!”
11 ପୁଣି, ଶାଉଲ ଓ ସମୁଦାୟ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ସେହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟର ଏହି ସକଳ କଥା ଶୁଣନ୍ତେ, ସେମାନେ ହତାଶ ହେଲେ ଓ ଅତିଶୟ ଭୟ କଲେ।
On hearing the words of the Philistine, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and greatly afraid.
12 ଦାଉଦ ବେଥଲିହିମ ଯିହୁଦା ନିବାସୀ ଏକ ଇଫ୍ରାଥୀୟ ପୁରୁଷର ପୁତ୍ର ଥିଲେ, ତାହାର ନାମ ଯିଶୀ; ତାହାର ଆଠ ପୁତ୍ର ଥିଲେ; ପୁଣି, ଶାଉଲଙ୍କ ସମୟରେ ସେ ପୁରୁଷ ବୃଦ୍ଧ ଓ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ଗତବୟସ୍କ ବୋଲି ଗଣିତ ଥିଲା।
Now David was the son of a man named Jesse, an Ephrathite from Bethlehem of Judah who had eight sons in the days of Saul. And Jesse was old and well along in years.
13 ଯିଶୀର ତିନି ବଡ଼ ପୁତ୍ର ଶାଉଲଙ୍କର ପଶ୍ଚାତ୍ ଯୁଦ୍ଧକୁ ଯାଇଥିଲେ; ପୁଣି, ଯୁଦ୍ଧକୁ ଯାଇଥିବା ତାହାର ତିନି ପୁତ୍ର ମଧ୍ୟରେ ଜ୍ୟେଷ୍ଠର ନାମ ଇଲୀୟାବ୍ ଓ ଦ୍ୱିତୀୟର ନାମ ଅବୀନାଦବ ଓ ତୃତୀୟର ନାମ ଶମ୍ମ, ଆଉ ଦାଉଦ କନିଷ୍ଠ ଥିଲେ।
The three older sons of Jesse had followed Saul into battle: The firstborn was Eliab, the second was Abinadab, and the third was Shammah.
14 କେବଳ ବଡ଼ ତିନି ଜଣ ଶାଉଲଙ୍କର ଅନୁଗାମୀ ହୋଇଥିଲେ।
And David was the youngest. The three oldest had followed Saul,
15 ମାତ୍ର ଦାଉଦ ଆପଣା ପିତାର ମେଷପଲ ଚରାଇବା ନିମନ୍ତେ ଶାଉଲଙ୍କ ନିକଟରୁ ବେଥଲିହିମକୁ ଯାʼଆସ କରୁଥାଆନ୍ତି।
but David went back and forth from Saul to tend his father’s sheep in Bethlehem.
16 ପୁଣି, ସେହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ଲୋକ ଚାଳିଶ ଦିନ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ପ୍ରାତଃକାଳରେ ଓ ସନ୍ଧ୍ୟାକାଳରେ ନିକଟକୁ ଆସି ଆପଣାକୁ ଦେଖାଉଥାଏ।
For forty days the Philistine came forward every morning and evening to take his stand.
17 ଏହି ସମୟରେ ଯିଶୀ ଆପଣାର ପୁତ୍ର ଦାଉଦଙ୍କୁ କହିଲା, “ଆପଣା ଭାଇମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଏହି ଭଜାଶସ୍ୟରୁ ଏକ ଐଫା ଓ ଏହି ଦଶଟା ରୁଟି ନିଅ ଓ ଛାଉଣିକୁ ଆପଣା ଭାଇମାନଙ୍କ ନିକଟକୁ ଶୀଘ୍ର ଘେନିଯାଅ।
One day Jesse said to his son David, “Take this ephah of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread for your brothers and hurry to their camp.
18 ପୁଣି, ଏହି ଦଶ ଖଣ୍ଡ ଛେନାଚକ୍ତି ସେମାନଙ୍କର ସହସ୍ରପତି ନିକଟକୁ ଘେନିଯାଅ ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭ ଭାଇମାନଙ୍କର କୁଶଳବାର୍ତ୍ତା ପଚାରି ସେମାନଙ୍କର କୌଣସି ଚିହ୍ନ ଆଣ।
Take also these ten portions of cheese to the commander of their unit. Check on the welfare of your brothers and bring back an assurance from them.
19 ଏହି ସମୟରେ ଶାଉଲ ଓ ସେମାନେ ଓ ସମସ୍ତ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ଲୋକ ଏଲା ତଳଭୂମିରେ ଥାଇ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟମାନଙ୍କ ସହିତ ଯୁଦ୍ଧ କରୁଥିଲେ।”
They are with Saul and all the men of Israel in the Valley of Elah, fighting against the Philistines.”
20 ଏଉତ୍ତାରେ ଦାଉଦ ପ୍ରଭାତରେ ଉଠି ଜଣେ ରଖୁଆଳ ହସ୍ତରେ ମେଷପଲ ଛାଡ଼ି ଯିଶୀର ଆଜ୍ଞାନୁସାରେ ସେସବୁ ଦ୍ରବ୍ୟ ନେଇ ଗମନ କଲେ; ପୁଣି, ସୈନ୍ୟଗଣ ବାହାରି ଯୁଦ୍ଧ ନିମନ୍ତେ ମହାନାଦ କରିବା ସମୟରେ ସେ ଶଗଡ଼ବନ୍ଦି ସ୍ଥାନରେ ଉପସ୍ଥିତ ହେଲେ।
So David got up early in the morning, left the flock with a keeper, loaded up, and set out as Jesse had instructed him. He reached the camp as the army was marching out to its position and shouting the battle cry.
21 ତହୁଁ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ଓ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟମାନେ ଯୁଦ୍ଧ ସଜାଇଲେ ଓ ସୈନ୍ୟଶ୍ରେଣୀ ପରସ୍ପର ସମ୍ମୁଖାସମ୍ମୁଖୀ ହେଲେ।
And Israel and the Philistines arrayed in formation against each other.
22 ପୁଣି, ଦାଉଦ ସାମଗ୍ରୀରକ୍ଷକ ହସ୍ତରେ ଆପଣା ସାମଗ୍ରୀ ରଖି ସୈନ୍ୟଶ୍ରେଣୀ ମଧ୍ୟକୁ ଦୌଡ଼ିଆସି ଆପଣା ଭାଇମାନଙ୍କୁ କୁଶଳବାର୍ତ୍ତା ପଚାରିଲା।
Then David left his supplies in the care of the quartermaster and ran to the battle line. When he arrived, he asked his brothers how they were doing.
23 ସେ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ସଙ୍ଗେ କଥାବାର୍ତ୍ତା କରୁଥିବା ସମୟରେ, ଦେଖ, ଗାଥ୍ ନିବାସୀ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ଗଲୀୟାତ ନାମକ ମଲ୍ଲଯୋଦ୍ଧା ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ସୈନ୍ୟଶ୍ରେଣୀ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଉଠି ଆସି ପୂର୍ବ ପରି କଥା କହିଲା; ପୁଣି, ଦାଉଦ ତାହା ଶୁଣିଲେ।
And as he was speaking with them, suddenly the champion named Goliath, the Philistine from Gath, came forward from the Philistines and shouted his usual words, which David also heard.
24 ମାତ୍ର ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ଲୋକ ସମସ୍ତେ ସେହି ପୁରୁଷକୁ ଦେଖି ତାହା ସମ୍ମୁଖରୁ ପଳାଇଲେ ଓ ଅତିଶୟ ଭୀତ ହେଲେ।
When all the men of Israel saw Goliath, they fled from him in great fear.
25 ତହୁଁ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ଲୋକମାନେ କହିଲେ, “ଏହି ଯେ ଲୋକ ଉଠି ଆସିଅଛି, ଏହାକୁ କʼଣ ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଦେଖିଲ? ନିଶ୍ଚୟ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲକୁ ତୁଚ୍ଛ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ସେ ଉଠି ଆସିଅଛି; ପୁଣି, ଏହାକୁ ଯେଉଁ ଲୋକ ବଧ କରିବ, ରାଜା ତାହାକୁ ବହୁତ ଧନରେ ଧନବାନ କରିବେ ଓ ତାହାକୁ ଆପଣା କନ୍ୟା ଦେବେ, ଆଉ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ତାହାର ପିତୃଗୃହକୁ କରମୁକ୍ତ କରିବେ।”
Now the men of Israel had been saying, “Do you see this man who keeps coming out to defy Israel? To the man who kills him the king will give great riches. And he will give him his daughter in marriage and exempt his father’s house from taxation in Israel.”
26 ସେତେବେଳେ ଦାଉଦ ଆପଣା ନିକଟରେ ଠିଆ ହୋଇଥିବା ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ ପଚାରିଲେ, “ଯେଉଁ ଜନ ଏହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟକୁ ବଧ କରି ଇସ୍ରାଏଲର ଅପମାନ ଦୂର କରିବ, ତାହା ପ୍ରତି କʼଣ କରାଯିବ? କାରଣ, ଏହି ଅସୁନ୍ନତ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ କିଏ ଯେ, ସେ ଜୀବିତ ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ସୈନ୍ୟଶ୍ରେଣୀକୁ ତୁଚ୍ଛ କରିବ?”
David asked the men who were standing with him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Just who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
27 ତହିଁରେ ଲୋକମାନେ ପୂର୍ବ ପରି ଉତ୍ତର ଦେଇ କହିଲେ, ଯେ ତାହାକୁ ବଧ କରିବ, ତାହା ପ୍ରତି ଉପରୋକ୍ତ ପ୍ରକାରେ କରାଯିବ।
The people told him about the offer, saying, “That is what will be done for the man who kills him.”
28 ସେ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ କହିବା ବେଳେ ତାଙ୍କର ଜ୍ୟେଷ୍ଠ ଭ୍ରାତା ଇଲୀୟାବ୍ ଶୁଣିଲା; ତହିଁରେ ଇଲୀୟାବ୍ର କ୍ରୋଧ ଦାଉଦଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ପ୍ରଜ୍ୱଳିତ ହେଲା, ଆଉ ସେ କହିଲା, “ତୁ କାହିଁକି ଏଠିକି ଆସିଲୁ? ପ୍ରାନ୍ତରରେ ତୁ ସେ ମେଣ୍ଢା କେତୋଟି କାହା ପାଖରେ ଛାଡ଼ିଲୁ? ମୁଁ ତୋʼ ଗର୍ବ ଓ ତୋʼ ମନର ଦୁଷ୍ଟତା ଜାଣେ; କାରଣ ତୁ ଯୁଦ୍ଧ ଦେଖିବା ପାଇଁ ଆସିଅଛୁ।”
Now when David’s oldest brother Eliab heard him speaking to the men, his anger burned against David. “Why have you come down here?” he asked. “And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and wickedness of heart—you have come down to see the battle!”
29 ଏଥିରେ ଦାଉଦ କହିଲେ, “ମୁଁ ଏବେ କଅଣ କଲି? ଏଥିରେ କି କୌଣସି କାରଣ ନାହିଁ?”
“What have I done now?” said David. “Was it not just a question?”
30 ପୁଣି, ସେ ତାହା ପାଖରୁ ଫେରି ଅନ୍ୟ ଲୋକ ଆଡ଼କୁ ଗଲେ ଓ ପୂର୍ବ ପରି କହିଲେ; ତହିଁରେ ଲୋକମାନେ ପୁନର୍ବାର ପୂର୍ବ ପରି ଉତ୍ତର ଦେଲେ।
Then he turned from him toward another and asked about the offer, and those people answered him just as the first ones had answered.
31 ଦାଉଦଙ୍କର ଏହିସବୁ କଥା ଶୁଣାଯାʼନ୍ତେ, ଲୋକମାନେ ଶାଉଲଙ୍କ ସମ୍ମୁଖରେ ତାହା କହିଲେ, ତେଣୁ ସେ ତାଙ୍କୁ ଡକାଇଲେ।
Now David’s words were overheard and reported to Saul, who called for him.
32 ଏଥିରେ ଦାଉଦ ଶାଉଲଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, “ତାହା ସକାଶୁ କାହାରି ହୃଦୟ ନିରାଶ ନ ହେଉ; ଆପଣଙ୍କ ଦାସ ଯାଇ ସେହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ସଙ୍ଗେ ଯୁଦ୍ଧ କରିବ।”
And David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail on account of this Philistine. Your servant will go and fight him!”
33 ତହିଁରେ ଶାଉଲ ଦାଉଦଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, “ତୁମ୍ଭେ ସେହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ବିରୁଦ୍ଧରେ ଯାଇ ତାହା ସଙ୍ଗେ ଯୁଦ୍ଧ କରି ପାରିବ ନାହିଁ; କାରଣ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ତ ଯୁବା, ମାତ୍ର ସେ ଯୌବନାବଧି ଯୋଦ୍ଧା।”
But Saul replied, “You cannot go out against this Philistine to fight him. You are just a boy, and he has been a warrior from his youth.”
34 ତହୁଁ ଦାଉଦ ଶାଉଲଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, “ଆପଣଙ୍କ ଦାସ ଆପଣା ପିତାର ମେଷ ଚରାଉଥାଏ; ପୁଣି, କୌଣସି ସମୟରେ ଗୋଟିଏ ସିଂହ କି ଗୋଟିଏ ଭାଲୁ ଆସି ପଲ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଛୁଆ ଘେନିଗଲେ,
David replied, “Your servant has been tending his father’s sheep, and whenever a lion or a bear came and carried off a lamb from the flock,
35 ମୁଁ ତାହା ପଛେ ଗୋଡ଼ାଇ ତାକୁ ମାରି ତାʼ ମୁଖରୁ ଛୁଆକୁ ରକ୍ଷା କରେ; ପୁଣି, ସେ ମୋʼ ଉପରକୁ ଉଠିଲେ, ମୁଁ ତାହାର ଦାଢ଼ି ଧରି ତାହାକୁ ମାରି ବଧ କରେ।
I went after it, struck it down, and delivered the lamb from its mouth. If it reared up against me, I would grab it by its fur, strike it down, and kill it.
36 ଆପଣଙ୍କ ଦାସ ସିଂହ ଓ ଭାଲୁ ଉଭୟ ବଧ କରିଅଛି; ପୁଣି, ଏହି ଅସୁନ୍ନତ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ସେମାନଙ୍କର ଗୋଟିକ ପରି ହେବ, କାରଣ ସେ ଜୀବିତ ପରମେଶ୍ୱରଙ୍କ ସୈନ୍ୟଶ୍ରେଣୀକୁ ତୁଚ୍ଛ କରିଅଛି।”
Your servant has killed lions and bears; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God.”
37 ଆହୁରି ଦାଉଦ କହିଲେ, “ଯେଉଁ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ସିଂହ ହାତରୁ ଓ ଭାଲୁ ହାତରୁ ମୋତେ ରକ୍ଷା କରିଅଛନ୍ତି; ସେ ଏହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ହାତରୁ ମୋତେ ରକ୍ଷା କରିବେ।” ଏଥିରେ ଶାଉଲ ଦାଉଦଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, “ଯାଅ, ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ତୁମ୍ଭର ସଙ୍ଗୀ ହେବେ।”
David added, “The LORD, who delivered me from the claws of the lion and the bear, will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” “Go,” said Saul, “and may the LORD be with you.”
38 ତହୁଁ ଶାଉଲ ଦାଉଦଙ୍କୁ ଆପଣା ବସ୍ତ୍ର ପିନ୍ଧାଇ ତାଙ୍କର ମସ୍ତକରେ ପିତ୍ତଳ ଟୋପର ଦେଇ ତାଙ୍କୁ ସାଞ୍ଜୁଆ ପିନ୍ଧାଇଲେ।
Then Saul clothed David in his own tunic, put a bronze helmet on his head, and dressed him in armor.
39 ପୁଣି, ଦାଉଦ ଆପଣା ବସ୍ତ୍ର ଉପରେ ଖଡ୍ଗ ବାନ୍ଧି ଚାଲିବାକୁ ଚେଷ୍ଟା କଲେ; କାରଣ ସେ ତାହା ପରଖ କରି ନ ଥିଲେ। ଆଉ ଦାଉଦ ଶାଉଲଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, “ମୁଁ ଏହି ବେଶରେ ଯାଇ ନ ପାରେ, କାରଣ ମୁଁ ସେସବୁ ପରଖ କରି ନାହିଁ।” ଏଣୁ ଦାଉଦ ତାହା କାଢ଼ି ରଖିଲେ।
David strapped his sword over the tunic and tried to walk, but he was not accustomed to them. “I cannot walk in these,” David said to Saul. “I am not accustomed to them.” So David took them off.
40 ପୁଣି, ସେ ଆପଣା ଯଷ୍ଟି ହାତରେ ଘେନି ନଦୀରୁ ପାଞ୍ଚୋଟି ଚିକ୍କଣ ପଥର ବାଛିଲେ ଓ ଆପଣା ପାଖରେ ମେଷପାଳକର ଯେଉଁ ଝୁଲି ଥିଲା, ସେହି ଝୁଲିରେ ତାହା ରଖିଲେ; ଆଉ ସେ ହାତରେ ଆପଣା ଛାଟିଣୀ ଧରି ସେହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ନିକଟକୁ ଗଲେ।
And David took his staff in his hand, selected five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag. And with his sling in hand, he approached the Philistine.
41 ଏଥିରେ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ଅଗ୍ରସର ହୋଇ ଦାଉଦଙ୍କର ସନ୍ନିକଟ ହେଲା ଓ ତାହାର ଢାଲବାହକ ତାହାର ଆଗେ ଆଗେ ଚାଲିଲା।
Now the Philistine came closer and closer to David, with his shield-bearer before him.
42 ତହୁଁ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ଚାରିଆଡ଼କୁ ଅନାଇ ଦାଉଦଙ୍କୁ ଦେଖି ତୁଚ୍ଛଜ୍ଞାନ କଲା, କାରଣ ସେ ଯୁବା ଓ ଈଷତ୍ ରକ୍ତବର୍ଣ୍ଣ ଓ ସୁନ୍ଦର-ବଦନ ଥିଲେ।
When the Philistine looked and saw David, he despised him because he was just a boy, ruddy and handsome.
43 ପୁଣି, ସେହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ଦାଉଦଙ୍କୁ କହିଲା, “ମୁଁ କି କୁକ୍କୁର, ଯେ ତୁ ଯଷ୍ଟି ନେଇ ମୋʼ ପାଖକୁ ଆସିଛୁ?” ତହିଁରେ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ଆପଣା ଦେବତାମାନଙ୍କ ନାମରେ ଦାଉଦଙ୍କୁ ଶାପ ଦେଲା।
“Am I a dog,” he said to David, “that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 ଆଉ ସେହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ଦାଉଦଙ୍କୁ କହିଲା, “ମୋʼ କତିକି ଆ, ମୁଁ ତୋର ମାଂସ ଆକାଶ-ପକ୍ଷୀ ଓ ବିଲ-ପଶୁମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦେବି।”
“Come here,” he called to David, “and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!”
45 ତେବେ ଦାଉଦ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟକୁ କହିଲେ, “ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଖଡ୍ଗ ଘେନି, ବର୍ଚ୍ଛା ଘେନି ଓ ଶଲ୍ୟ ଘେନି ମୋʼ କତିକି ଆସିଅଛ; ମାତ୍ର ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଯାହାଙ୍କୁ ତୁଚ୍ଛ କରିଅଛ, ସେହି ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ସୈନ୍ୟଶ୍ରେଣୀର ପରମେଶ୍ୱର ସୈନ୍ୟାଧିପତି ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ନାମରେ ତୁମ୍ଭ ନିକଟକୁ ମୁଁ ଆସୁଅଛି।
But David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
46 ଆଜି ଦିନ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ମୋʼ ହସ୍ତରେ ସମର୍ପି ଦେବେ; ଏଣୁ ମୁଁ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ଆଘାତ କରି ତୁମ୍ଭଠାରୁ ତୁମ୍ଭ ମସ୍ତକ ଅଲଗା କରିବି; ପୁଣି, ମୁଁ ଆଜି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟମାନଙ୍କ ସୈନ୍ୟଗଣର ଶବ ଆକାଶ-ପକ୍ଷୀଗଣକୁ ଓ ପୃଥିବୀସ୍ଥ ବନ-ପଶୁମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦେବି; ତହିଁରେ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ଏକ ପରମେଶ୍ୱର ଅଛନ୍ତି ବୋଲି ସମୁଦାୟ ଜଗତ ଜାଣିବେ।
This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand. This day I will strike you down, cut off your head, and give the carcasses of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the creatures of the earth. Then the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.
47 ଆଉ ଏହି ସମସ୍ତ ସମାଜ ଜାଣିବେ ଯେ, ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଖଡ୍ଗ ଓ ବର୍ଚ୍ଛା ଦ୍ୱାରା ଉଦ୍ଧାର କରନ୍ତି ନାହିଁ; କାରଣ ଏହି ଯୁଦ୍ଧ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କର ଓ ସେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ହସ୍ତରେ ସମର୍ପଣ କରିବେ।”
And all those assembled here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and He will give all of you into our hands.”
48 ଏଉତ୍ତାରେ ସେହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ଉଠି ଦାଉଦଙ୍କ ସଙ୍ଗେ ଭେଟିବାକୁ ଆସି ନିକଟବର୍ତ୍ତୀ ହୁଅନ୍ତେ, ଦାଉଦ ଶୀଘ୍ର ସେହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ସହିତ ଭେଟିବାକୁ ସୈନ୍ୟଶ୍ରେଣୀ ଆଡ଼େ ଦୌଡ଼ିଲେ।
As the Philistine started forward to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him.
49 ପୁଣି, ଦାଉଦ ଆପଣା ଝୁଲିରେ ହାତ ପୂରାଇ ତହିଁରୁ ଗୋଟିଏ ପଥର କାଢ଼ି ଛାଟିଣୀରେ ମାରି ସେହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟର କପାଳକୁ ଆଘାତ କଲେ; ତହିଁରେ ସେ ପଥର ତାହା କପାଳରେ ପଶିଯାʼନ୍ତେ, ସେ ମୁହଁ ମାଡ଼ି ଭୂମିରେ ପଡ଼ିଲା।
Then David reached into his bag, took out a stone, and slung it, striking the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.
50 ଏହି ପ୍ରକାରେ ଦାଉଦ ଛାଟିଣୀ ଓ ପଥର ଦ୍ୱାରା ସେହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ଉପରେ ଜୟଲାଭ କଲେ ଓ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟକୁ ଆଘାତ କରି ବଧ କଲେ, ମାତ୍ର ଦାଉଦଙ୍କ ହସ୍ତରେ ଖଡ୍ଗ ନ ଥିଲା।
Thus David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.
51 ତହୁଁ ଦାଉଦ ଦୌଡ଼ିଯାଇ ସେହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ଉପରେ ଠିଆ ହେଲେ ଓ ତାହାର ଖଡ୍ଗ ଧରି ଖାପରୁ କାଢ଼ି ତାହାକୁ ବଧ କଲେ ଓ ତଦ୍ଦ୍ୱାରା ତାହାର ମସ୍ତକ ଛେଦନ କଲେ। ଆଉ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟମାନେ ଆପଣାମାନଙ୍କ ବୀରକୁ ମୃତ ଦେଖି ପଳାଇଲେ।
David ran and stood over him. He grabbed the Philistine’s sword and pulled it from its sheath and killed him; and he cut off his head with the sword. When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and ran.
52 ତହୁଁ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ଓ ଯିହୁଦାର ଲୋକମାନେ ଉଠି ଜୟଧ୍ୱନି କଲେ ଓ ଗାଥ୍ ନଗର ସନ୍ନିକଟ ଓ ଇକ୍ରୋଣ ଦ୍ୱାର ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟମାନଙ୍କ ପଛେ ପଛେ ଗୋଡ଼ାଇଲେ। ତହିଁରେ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟମାନଙ୍କ ହତ ଲୋକମାନେ ଶାରୟିମ୍ ପଥରେ ଗାଥ୍ ଓ ଇକ୍ରୋଣ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ପଡ଼ିଲେ।
Then the men of Israel and Judah charged forward with a shout and pursued the Philistines to the entrance of Gath and to the gates of Ekron. And the bodies of the Philistines were strewn along the Shaaraim road to Gath and Ekron.
53 ଏଉତ୍ତାରେ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ-ସନ୍ତାନଗଣ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟମାନଙ୍କ ପଛେ ପଛେ ଗୋଡ଼ାଇବାରୁ ନେଉଟି ଆସି ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଛାଉଣି ଲୁଟ କଲେ।
When the Israelites returned from their pursuit of the Philistines, they plundered their camps.
54 ପୁଣି, ଦାଉଦ ସେହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟର ମସ୍ତକ ନେଇ ଯିରୂଶାଲମକୁ ଆଣିଲେ; ମାତ୍ର ତାହାର ସଜ୍ଜା ଆପଣା ତମ୍ବୁରେ ରଖିଲେ।
David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem, and he put Goliath’s weapons in his own tent.
55 ସେହି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟ ବିରୁଦ୍ଧରେ ଦାଉଦଙ୍କୁ ବାହାରିବାର ଦେଖି ଶାଉଲ ସୈନ୍ୟର ସେନାପତି ଅବ୍ନରକୁ କହିଲେ; “ଅବ୍ନର, ଏ ଯୁବା କାହାର ପୁଅ?” ଅବ୍ନର କହିଲା, “ହେ ମହାରାଜ, ଆପଣଙ୍କ ପ୍ରାଣ ଜୀବିତ ଥିବା ପ୍ରମାଣେ କହୁଛି, ମୁଁ କହି ପାରିବି ନାହିଁ।”
As Saul had watched David going out to confront the Philistine, he said to Abner the commander of the army, “Abner, whose son is this young man?” “As surely as you live, O king,” Abner replied, “I do not know.”
56 ତହିଁରେ ରାଜା କହିଲେ, “ପଚାର, ଏ ଭେଣ୍ଡିଆଟି କାହାର ପୁଅ?”
“Find out whose son this young man is!” said the king.
57 ଆଉ ଦାଉଦ ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟକୁ ବଧ କରି ପଲେଷ୍ଟୀୟର ମସ୍ତକ ହସ୍ତରେ ଧରି ଫେରି ଆସିବା ବେଳେ ଅବ୍ନର ତାଙ୍କୁ ନେଇ ଶାଉଲଙ୍କ ସମ୍ମୁଖକୁ ଆଣିଲା।
So when David returned from killing the Philistine, still holding his head in his hand, Abner took him and brought him before Saul.
58 ତହୁଁ ଶାଉଲ ତାଙ୍କୁ ପଚାରିଲେ, “ହେ ଯୁବକ, ତୁମ୍ଭେ କାହାର ପୁଅ?” ଦାଉଦ ଉତ୍ତର ଦେଲେ, “ମୁଁ ଆପଣଙ୍କ ଦାସ ବେଥଲିହିମୀୟ ଯିଶୀର ପୁଅ।”
“Whose son are you, young man?” asked Saul. “I am the son of your servant Jesse of Bethlehem,” David replied.
