1 Difor er du, menneskje, ikkje orsakande, kven du so er som dømer. For med di du dømer den andre, fordømer du deg sjølv, for du som dømer, gjer sjølv det same;
Therefore yoʋ are without excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For on whatever grounds yoʋ judge another, yoʋ condemn yoʋrself, for yoʋ who judge do the same things.
2 men me veit at Guds dom, som sanning krev, er yver deim som gjer slikt.
Now we know that the judgment of God against those who do such things is in accordance with truth.
3 Men trur du det, du menneskje som dømer deim som gjer slikt og sjølv gjer det same, at du skal sleppa undan Guds dom?
Do yoʋ suppose, O man—yoʋ who judge those who do such things and yet do them yoʋrself—that yoʋ will escape the judgment of God?
4 Eller vanvyrder du hans rikdom på godleik og tolmod og langmod, og veit ikkje at Guds godleik driv deg til umvending?
Or do yoʋ despise the riches of his kindness, forbearance, and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads yoʋ to repentance?
5 Men med ditt hardlynde og ditt utbotferdige hjarta hopar du vreide yver deg på vreidens dag då Guds rettferdige dom vert openberr;
But according to yoʋr stubbornness and yoʋr unrepentant heart, yoʋ are storing up wrath for yoʋrself on the day of wrath, revelation, and the righteous judgment of God,
6 for han skal gjeva kvar etter gjerningarne hans:
who will repay each person according to his works.
7 deim som med trott i god gjerning søkjer herlegdom og æra og uforgjengelegdom, skal han gjeva ævelegt liv; (aiōnios g166)
To those who by patient endurance in good works seek glory, honor, and immortality, he will give eternal life; (aiōnios g166)
8 men deim som er stridsame og ikkje lyder sanningi, men lyder urettferdi, skal timast vreide og harm.
but for those who are self-seeking and obey unrighteousness instead of the truth, there will be anger and wrath.
9 Naud og trengsla skal koma yver kvar menneskjesjæl som gjer det vonde, både jøde fyrst og so grækar.
There will be tribulation and distress for everyone who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek;
10 Men herlegdom og æra og fred skal timast kvar den som gjer det gode, både jøde fyrst og so grækar.
but there will be glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek.
11 For Gud gjer ikkje skil på folk:
For there is no partiality with God.
12 Alle som synda utan lovi, dei skal og verta fortapte utan lovi, og alle som synda under lovi, dei skal og verta dømde ved lovi.
For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law.
13 For ikkje dei som høyrer lovi, er rettferdige for Gud, men dei som gjer etter lovi, skal verta rettferdiggjorde.
For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified.
14 For når heidningarne som ikkje hev lovi, gjer av naturi det som lovi byd, so er dei seg sjølve ei lov, endå dei ikkje hev lovi.
For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what is required by the law, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law.
15 Dei syner at lovgjerningi er skrivi i hjarto deira, med de samvitet deira gjev sitt vitnemål, og tankarne seg imillom sakar eller orsakar deim
They show that what the law requires is written in their hearts, as their conscience bears witness with them and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even defend them
16 - på den dagen då Gud skal døma det dulde hjå menneski, etter mitt evangelium ved Jesu Kristus.
on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secret thoughts of men through Jesus Christ.
17 Men um du heiter jøde og lit på lovi og rosar deg av Gud
Behold, yoʋ call yoʋrself a Jew and rely on the law and boast in God.
18 og veit hans vilje og dømer um dei ymse ting med di du lærer av lovi,
Yoʋ know his will and approve what is excellent, because yoʋ are instructed from the law.
19 og trøyster deg til å vera vegvisar for blinde, ljos for deim som er i myrker,
And yoʋ have confidence that yoʋ yoʋrself are a guide for the blind, a light for those who are in darkness,
20 uppsedar for dårar, lærar for umynduge, då du hev den rette form for kunnskap og sanning i lovi:
an instructor of the foolish, and a teacher of children, because yoʋ have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth.
21 Du som soleis lærer ein annan, lærer du ikkje deg sjølv? Du som preikar at ein ikkje skal stela, stel du?
Yoʋ then who teach others, do yoʋ not teach yoʋrself? Yoʋ who preach against stealing, do yoʋ steal?
22 Du som segjer at ein ikkje skal driva hor, driv du hor? Du som styggjest ved avgudar, ranar du avgudstempel?
Yoʋ who tell others not to commit adultery, do yoʋ commit adultery? Yoʋ who abhor idols, do yoʋ rob temples?
23 Du som rosar deg av lovi, du vanærar Gud med di du bryt lovi!
Yoʋ who boast in the law, do yoʋ dishonor God by transgressing the law?
24 For «Guds namn vert spotta millom heidningarne for dykkar skuld, » som skrive stend.
As it is written, “The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”
25 For umskjeringi gjer vel gagn um du held lovi; men bryt du lovi, då hev di umskjering vorte til fyrehud.
Circumcision does indeed benefit yoʋ if yoʋ observe the law, but if yoʋ transgress the law, yoʋr circumcision has become uncircumcision.
26 Um då ein u-umskoren liver etter lovbodi, skal ikkje då hans fyrehud verta rekna for umskjering?
If then an uncircumcised man keeps the ordinances of the law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision?
27 Og den som hev den naturlege fyrehud, men uppfyller lovi, skal døma deg som med bokstav og umskjering bryt lovi.
Then he who is physically uncircumcised and carries out the law will judge yoʋ who, despite having the letter of the law and circumcision, transgress the law.
28 For ikkje den er jøde som er det i synom, og ikkje heller er det umskjering som er det i synom, på kjøtet.
For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither is circumcision something outward in the flesh;
29 Men den som er jøde i løyndom, han er jøde, og umskjering er hjarteumskjering i ånd, ikkje i bokstav. Ein slik hev ros, ikkje av menneskje, men av Gud.
but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. Such a man's praise comes not from men but from God.
