Salmenes 97

1 Herren er konge; jordi fagne seg, mange øyar glede seg!

Jehovah reigneth: let the earth be glad, let the many isles rejoice.

2 Skyer og myrker er kringum honom, rettferd og rett er grunnvoll for hans kongsstol.

Clouds and darkness are round about him; righteousness and judgment are the foundation of his throne.

3 Eld gjeng framfyre honom og brenner hans motstandarar rundt ikring.

A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his adversaries round about.

4 Hans eldingar lyser upp heimen; jordi ser det og skjelv.

His lightnings lightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled.

5 Bergi brånar som voks for Herren, for Herren yver all jordi.

The mountains melted like wax at the presence of Jehovah, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

6 Himmelen forkynner hans rettferd, og alle folki hans æra.

The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory.

7 Skjemde vert alle som dyrkar bilæte, som rosar seg av avgudar. Alle gudar tilbed honom.

Ashamed be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols. Worship him, all ye gods.

8 Sion høyrer det og gled seg, og Judas døtter fagnar seg for dine domar skuld, Herre.

Zion heard, and rejoiced; and the daughters of Judah were glad, because of thy judgments, O Jehovah.

9 For du, Herre, er den høgste yver heile jordi, du er høgt upphøgd yver alle gudar.

For thou, Jehovah, art the Most High above all the earth; thou art exalted exceedingly above all gods.

10 De som elskar Herren, hata det vonde! Han tek vare på sjælerne åt sine trugne, frå handi til dei ugudlege frelsar han deim.

Ye that love Jehovah, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints, he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.

11 Ljos er utsått for den rettferdige, og gleda for dei ærlege i hjarta.

Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.

12 Gled dykk, de rettferdige, i Herren! Syng lov for hans heilage namn!

Rejoice in Jehovah, ye righteous; and give thanks in remembrance of his holiness.
