1 Til songmeisteren; av Herrens tenar David. Dei ord som syndi gjev den ugudlege inn, kjenner eg i mitt inste hjarta. Ingen ræddhug for Gud er det for hans augo.
[Wicked people continually desire to] sin. They consider [IDM] that they do not need to revere God.
2 For ein høler honom i augo ved å finna hans synd, ved å hata honom.
Because they are very proud, they do not think that God will discover their sins and condemn them (OR, they do not think about their sins and hate themselves for it).
3 Ordi i hans munn er urett og svik; han hev halde upp å fara visleg åt, å gjera godt.
[Everything] that they say is deceitful and full of lies; they no longer do what is good and are no longer wise.
4 Han tenkjer upp urett på sitt lægje; han stig ut på ein veg som ikkje er god; han styggjest ikkje frå det vonde.
While they are lying on their beds, they plan to do things to harm [others]; they are determined to do things that are not good, and they never refuse [to do what is] evil.
5 Herre, til himmelen når di miskunn, din truskap upp til dei høge skyer.
Yahweh, your faithful love for us reaches as high as the heavens, you faithfully [do what you have promised]; [it is as though your doing that] extends up to the clouds.
6 Di rettferd er som Guds fjellhøgder, dine domar er ei stort havdjup; menneskje og dyr frelser du, Herre!
Your righteous behavior is [as permanent as] the highest mountains [MET], your acting justly [will continue as long as] the deepest oceans [exist]. You take care of people and you take care of animals.
7 Kor dyrverdig er di miskunn, Gud! Og menneskjeborni flyr inn i skuggen av dine vengjer.
God, your faithful love for us is very precious. You protect us like birds protect their baby birds under their wings [MET].
8 Dei vert mette til fullnad av det feite i ditt hus, og av din yverflødande fagnad gjev du deim å drikka.
You provide for us plenty of food from the abundant supply [IDM] that you have; your great blessings for us [flow] like a river.
9 For hjå deg er livsens kjelda, i ditt ljos ser me ljos.
You are the one who causes everything to live; your light is what enables us to see.
10 Lat di miskunn vara lenge for deim som kjenner deg, og di rettferd for dei trurøkne i hjarta!
Continue to faithfully love those who have experienced a relationship with you, and bless those who act righteously/justly.
11 Lat ikkje ovmods fot koma yver meg, og hand av ugudlege ikkje jaga meg burt!
Do not allow proud people [SYN] to attack me, or allow wicked people to chase me away.
12 Der fell dei som gjer urett; dei vert støytte ned og kann ikkje standa upp.
Look where evil people have fallen on the ground, defeated; they were thrown down, and they will never rise again.
