1 Då Israel drog ut or Egyptarland, Jakobs hus frå eit folk med framand tunga,

Alleluia. At the departure of Israel from Egypt, the house of Jacob from a barbarous people:

2 då vart Juda hans heilagdom, Israel hans rike.

Judea was made his sanctuary; Israel was made his power.

3 Havet såg det og flydde, Jordan drog seg attende.

The sea looked, and it fled. The Jordan was turned back again.

4 Fjelli hoppa som verar, haugarne som lamb.

The mountains exulted like rams, and the hills like lambs among the sheep.

5 Kva hev hendt deg, hav, at du flyr? du Jordan, at du dreg deg attende?

What happened to you, O sea, so that you fled, and to you, O Jordan, so that you were turned back again?

6 de fjell, at de hoppar som verar, de haugar som lamb?

What happened to you, O mountains, so that you exulted like rams, and to you, O hills, so that you exulted like lambs among the sheep?

7 For Herrens åsyn må du skjelva, jord, for Jakobs Guds åsyn!

Before the face of the Lord, the earth was moved, before the face of the God of Jacob.

8 Han som gjer berget til ein sjø, harde steinen til ei vatskjelda.
