To David himself. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and bless his holy name, all that is within me.
2 Lova Herren, mi sjæl, og gløym ikkje alle hans velgjerningar!
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all his recompenses.
3 Han som tilgjev all di skuld, han som lækjer alle dine brester,
He forgives all your iniquities. He heals all your infirmities.
4 han som løyser ditt liv frå gravi, han som kryner deg med nåde og miskunn,
He redeems your life from destruction. He crowns you with mercy and compassion.
5 han som mettar din prydnad med godt, so du vert ung att som ørnen.
He satisfies your desire with good things. Your youth will be renewed like that of the eagle.
6 Herren gjer rettferdsverk og rett mot alle som er under trykk.
The Lord accomplishes mercies, and his judgment is for all who patiently endure injuries.
7 Han kunngjorde sine vegar for Moses, sine gjerningar for Israels born.
He has made his ways known to Moses, his will to the sons of Israel.
8 Miskunnsam og nådig er Herren, langmodig og rik på miskunn.
The Lord is compassionate and merciful, patient and full of mercy.
9 Han trættar ikkje alltid og gøymer ikkje æveleg på vreide.
He will not be angry forever, and he will not threaten for eternity.
10 Han gjer ikkje med oss etter våre synder og gjev oss ikkje lika for våre misgjerningar.
He has not dealt with us according to our sins, and he has not repaid us according to our iniquities.
11 For so høg som himmelen er yver jordi, so er hans miskunn veldug yver deim som ottast honom.
For according to the height of the heavens above the earth, so has he reinforced his mercy toward those who fear him.
12 So langt som aust er frå vest, let han våre misgjerningar vera burte frå oss.
As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our iniquities from us.
13 Som ein far miskunnar borni, so miskunnar Herren deim som ottast honom.
As a father is compassionate to his sons, so has the Lord been compassionate to those who fear him.
14 For han veit kva slag skapning me er, han kjem i hug at me er dust.
For he knows our form. He has called to mind that we are dust.
15 Eit menneskje, som gras er hans dagar, som blomen på marki, soleis blømer han.
Man: his days are like hay. Like the flower of the field, so will he flourish.
16 Når vinden fer yver honom, er han ikkje meir, og staden hans veit ikkje meir av honom.
For the spirit in him will pass away, and it will not remain, and he will know his place no longer.
17 Men Herrens miskunn er frå æva og til æva yver deim som ottast honom, og hans rettferd er mot barneborn,
But the mercy of the Lord is from eternity, and even unto eternity, upon those who fear him. And his justice is with the sons of the sons,
18 mot deim som held hans pakt, og som kjem i hug hans fyresegner og liver etter deim.
with those who serve his covenant and have been mindful of his commandments by doing them.
19 Herren hev sett sin kongsstol i himmelen, og hans rike råder yver alle ting.
The Lord has prepared his throne in heaven, and his kingdom will rule over all.
20 Lova Herren, de hans englar, de velduge kjempor som set hans ord i verk, med di de lyder på røysti av hans ord!
Bless the Lord, all you his Angels: powerful in virtue, doing his word, in order to heed the voice of his discourse.
21 Lova Herren, alle hans herar, de hans tenarar som gjer hans vilje!
Bless the Lord, all his hosts: his ministers who do his will.
22 Lova Herren alle hans verk på alle stader i hans rike! Lova Herren mi sjæl!
Bless the Lord, all his works: in every place of his dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul.
