1 Ein mann som etter mykje refsing endå er ein stivnakke, vil brått verta broten ulækjeleg sund.
Anyone who goes on stubbornly rejecting many warnings will be suddenly destroyed, without hope of healing.
2 Når rettferdige aukar i tal, då gled seg folket, men når gudlaus mann kjem til styre, sukkar folket.
When good people are in charge, everybody celebrates; but when the wicked rule, everybody groans.
3 Den som elskar visdom, gled sin far, men den som gjeng i lag med skjøkjor, øyder eiga si.
A man who loves wisdom makes his father happy, but one who visits prostitutes throws away his money.
4 Ein konge held landet sitt uppe med rett, men ein skattekrevjar legg det i øyde.
A king who rules justly makes the country secure, but one who asks for bribes will destroy it.
5 Ein mann som smeikjer for næsten sin, breider ut eit net for føterne hans.
Those who flatter their friends lay a net to trip them up.
6 Ein vond manns misgjerd er snara for honom, men rettferdig mann fegnast og gled seg.
Evil people are trapped by their own sins, but those who do right sing and celebrate.
7 Den rettferdige syter for stakarens sak, den gudlause hev ikkje greida på noko.
Good people care about treating the poor fairly, but the wicked don't think about it at all.
8 Spottarar øser upp ein by, men vismenner stiller vreiden.
Cynical people can inflame a whole city, but the wise calm angry people down.
9 Når vismann fører sak mot dåren, vert dåren sinna og lær, og kann’kje vera still.
When a wise man takes a stupid man to court, there's raging and ridicule, but nothing is settled.
10 Dei blodfuse hatar ein skuldlaus mann, og stend dei ærlege etter livet.
Murderers hate people of integrity, but those who live right try to help them.
11 Alt sitt sinne slepper dåren ut, men vismannen døyver det til slutt.
Stupid people let all their anger out, while wise people quietly hold it in.
12 Agtar ein hovding på lygneord, er alle hans tenarar nidingar.
A ruler who listens to lies will have nothing but wicked officials.
13 Fatigmann og valdsmann råkast, Herren gjev deim båe augneljos.
Poor people and their oppressors have this in common: the Lord gives life to all of them.

If a king judges the poor fairly, he will have a long rule.
15 Ris og age gjev visdom, men ein agelaus gut fører skam yver mor si.
Discipline and correction provide wisdom, but a son left undisciplined is an embarrassment to his mother.
16 Når dei gudlause aukar, so aukar syndi, men dei rettferdige skal sjå med lyst på deira fall.
When the wicked are in power, sin increases; but the good will see their downfall.
17 Aga son din, so vil han vera deg til hugnad og gjeva lostemat til sjæli di.
Discipline your children and they won't give you any worries; they will make you very happy.

Many people look for favors from a ruler, but justice comes from the Lord.
27 Ein styggedom for rettferdige er ein urettferdig mann, og ein styggedom for den gudlause er den som fer ærleg fram.
Good people hate those who are unjust; the wicked hate those who do what's right.
