Matteus 4
1 Sidan førde Anden Jesus ut i øydemarki, so djevelen skulde freista honom.
Then, Jesus was led up into the wilderness, by the Spirit, to be tempted by the adversary;
2 Han fasta i fyrti dagar og fyrti næter, og vart hungrig då so langt leid.
and, fasting forty days and forty nights, —afterwards, he hungered.
3 Og freistaren kom og sagde til honom: «Er du Guds Son, so seg at desse steinarne skal verta til brød!»
And, coming near, the tempter said to him, —If thou art God’s, Son, speak! that, these stones, may become, loaves.
4 Men han svara: «Det stend skrive: «Menneskja liver ikkje berre av brød, men av kvart ord som kjem frå Guds munn.»»
But, he, answering, said, It is written, —Not on bread alone, shall man live, but on every declaration coming forth through the mouth of God.
5 Då tok djevelen honom med seg til den heilage byen og sette honom ytst på tempeltaket, og sagde til honom:
Then, the adversary taketh him with him, unto the holy city, —and he set him upon the pinnacle of the temple;
6 «Er du Guds Son, so kasta deg utfyre! For det stend skrive: «Han englarn’ sine bjoda skal at dei på henderne deg ber, so aldri du på nokon stein skal turva støyta foten din.»»
and saith to him—If thou art God’s, Son, cast thyself down, —for it is written, To his messengers, will he give charge concerning thee; and, on hands, will they bear thee up, lest once thou strike, against a stone, thy foot.
7 Jesus svara: «Det stend og skrive: «Du skal ikkje freista Herren, din Gud.»»
Jesus said to him, Again, it is written, —Thou shalt not put to the test, the Lord thy God.
8 So tok djevelen honom med seg upp på eit ovhøgt fjell, og synte honom alle verdsens rike og deira herlegdom og sagde:
Again, the adversary taketh him with him, into an exceeding high mountain, —and pointeth out to him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory;
9 «Alt dette gjev eg deg, dersom du fell på kne og tilbed meg.»
and said to him, All these things, will I give thee, —if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Då sagde Jesus til honom: «Gakk frå meg, Satan! For det stend skrive: «Herren, din Gud, skal du tilbeda; honom og ingen annan skal du tena.»»
Then saith Jesus unto him, Withdraw, Satan! for it is written, —The Lord thy God, shalt thou worship, and, to him alone, render divine service.
11 So for djevelen ifrå honom, og med det same kom englarne og tente honom.
Then, the adversary leaveth him, —and lo! messengers came near, and began ministering unto him.
12 Då Jesus fekk høyra at Johannes var gjeven i henderne på uvenerne sine, drog han seg undan og for til Galilæa.
And, hearing that, John, had been delivered up, he retired into Galilee;
13 Sidan flutte han frå Nasaret og busette seg i Kapernaum, som ligg nedmed sjøen, på Sebulons og Naftalis grunn,
and, forsaking Nazareth, he came and fixed his dwelling in Capernaum, which was by the lake, —within the bounds of Zebulun and Naphtali:
14 so det skulde sannast det som er tala gjenom Jesaja, profeten, når han segjer:
that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying:
15 «Sebulons og Naftalis land, som langs med sjøen ligg, og dei som burtum Jordan bur, og heidne bygdekrins -
Land of Zebulun, and land of Naphtali, the lake-way across the Jordan, —Galilee of the nations,
16 det folket som i myrker sat, so stort eit ljos fekk sjå; dei sat i daudens skoddeland, då rann for deim eit ljos.»
The people that was sitting in darkness, a great light, beheld, —and, on them who were sitting in land and shade of death, Light rose on them.
17 Frå den tidi tok Jesus til å tala til folket og sagde: «Vend um! Himmelriket er nær!»
From that time, began Jesus to be making proclamation, and saying, —Repent ye, for the kingdom of the heavens hath drawn near.
18 Som han no ein gong gjekk frammed Galilæasjøen, fekk han sjå tvo brør, Simon, han som kallast Peter, og Andreas, bror hans; dei heldt på og kasta ei not i sjøen; for dei var fiskarar.
And, walking round beside the sea of Galilee, he saw two brethren—Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, —casting a large fishing-net into the sea, for they were fishers;
19 Han segjer til dei: «Kom og fylg meg! Eg vil gjera dykk til menneskje-fiskarar!»
and he saith unto them, Come after me, —and I will make you fishers, of men.
20 Då gjekk dei beint frå garni sine og fylgde honom.
And, they, straightway, leaving the nets, followed him.
21 Då han kom lenger fram, såg han tvo andre brør, Jakob, son åt Sebedæus, og Johannes, bror hans: dei sat i båten hjå Sebedæus, far sin, og greidde garni sine. Han kalla deim,
And, going forward from thence, he saw other two brethren—James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother—in the boat with Zebedee their father, putting in order their nets, —and he called them.
22 og med ein gong gjekk dei burt frå båten og frå far sin, og fylgde honom.
And, they, straightway, leaving the boat and their father, followed him.
23 Sidan for han ikring i heile Galilæa og lærde folket i synagogorne deira, og forkynte evangeliet um riket, og lækte all sjukdom og vanhelsa hjå deim.
And Jesus was going round throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the glad-message of the kingdom, —and curing every disease, and every infirmity, among the people.
24 Det gjekk gjetord um honom yver heile Syria, og dei kom til honom med alle som hadde vondt og drogst med eikor sott eller plåga, forgjorde og nedfall-sjuke og lamne, og han gjorde deim gode att.
And forth went the report of him into all Syria; and they brought unto him all who were sick, with divers diseases and tortures, distressed, demonized and lunatic and paralyzed, —and he cured them.
25 Og det fylgde honom ein stor folkehop frå Galilæa og Dekapolis og Jerusalem og Judalandet og bygderne på hi sida Jordan.
And there followed him large multitudes—from Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judaea, and across the Jordan.
