Josvas 18
1 So kom heile Israels-lyden saman i Silo, og der sette dei upp møtetjeldet; for no var landet vunne, og låg ope for deim.
Then the whole assembly of the people of Israel met together at Shiloh. They set up the tent of meeting there and they conquered the land before them.
2 Men endå var det att sju av Israels-ætterne som ikkje hadde skift odelsjordi si.
There were still seven tribes among the people of Israel whose inheritance had not been assigned.
3 Då sagde Josva til Israels-sønerne: Kor lenge vil de drygja fyrr de kjem og eignar til dykk det landet som Herren, dykkar fedregud, hev gjeve dykk?
Joshua said to the people of Israel, “How long will you put off going into the land that Yahweh, the God of your ancestors, has given you?
4 Kom med tri mann av kvar ætt, som eg kann senda i veg, so skal dei stella seg til, og fara kring i landet og skriva upp alt det dei ser, so me kann vita kor mykje der er å skifta; sidan skal dei koma attende til meg.
Appoint for yourselves three men from each tribe, and I will send them out. They will set out and survey the land up and down. They will write out a description of it with a view to their inheritances, and then they will come back to me.
5 So skal de byta landet i sju luter og skifta deim millom dykk! Juda-sønerne skal verta verande i det landet dei hev fenge der sud, og Josefs-ætterne i sitt land her nord;
They will divide it into seven sections. Judah will remain in their territory on the south, and the house of Joseph will continue in their territory in the north.
6 men de skal skriva upp alt som er i landet, i sju bolkar, og koma hit til meg med uppskrifti, so skal eg draga strå for dykk her, framfor Herrens, vår Guds, åsyn.
You will describe the land in seven sections and bring the description here to me. I will cast lots for you here before Yahweh our God.
7 For levitarne fær ingen lut millom dykk; Herrens prestedøme skal vera deira arvlut. Og Gad og Ruben og den eine helvti av Manasse-ætti hev fenge sitt land austanfor Jordan, det landet som Moses, Herrens tenar, gav deim.
The Levites have no portion among you, for the priesthood of Yahweh is their inheritance. Gad, Reuben, and the half tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance, beyond Jordan. This is the inheritance that Moses the servant of Yahweh gave them.”
8 So gjorde mennerne seg reiduge til å fara, og då dei tok ut, sagde Josva med deim at dei skulde skriva upp alt dei såg i landet. «Tak i vegen, » sagde han, «og far kring i landet, og skriv upp alt, og kom attende til meg, so skal eg draga strå for dykk framfor Herrens åsyn her i Silo.»
So the men got up and went. Joshua commanded those who went to write the description of the land, saying, “Go up and down in the land and write a description of it and return to me. I will cast lots for you here before Yahweh at Shiloh.”
9 Dermed tok mennerne av stad og for kring i landet, og skreiv upp bygd for bygd i ei bok, i sju bolkar. So kom dei attende til Josva, til Silo-lægret,
The men left and walked up and down in the land and wrote a description of it in a scroll by its cities in seven sections, listing the cities in each section. Then they returned to Joshua in the camp at Shiloh.
10 og Josva drog strå for deim, framfor Herrens åsyn; der, i Silo, skifte han landet millom Israels-ætterne, etter som dei hadde folk til.
Then Joshua cast lots for them at Shiloh before Yahweh. It was there that Joshua assigned the land to the people of Israel, and to each was given his portion of the land.
11 Den fyrste luten fall på Benjamins-sønerne og ættgreinerne deira; det landet dei fekk, kom til å liggja millom Juda-sønerne og Josefs-sønerne.
The assignment of land for the tribe of Benjamin clan by clan. The territory of their assigned land was located between the descendants of Judah and the descendants of Joseph.
12 Fylkesdeilet gjekk på nordsida upp frå Jordan og nordum Jerikoåsen og stemnde so vestetter upp på fjellet og fram til Bet-Avenheidi.
On the north side, their border began at the Jordan. The border went up to the ridge north of Jericho, and then up through the hill country westward. There it reached the wilderness of Beth Aven.
13 Derifrå tok det burtyver til Luz, sunnanfor Luzåsen, der Betel ligg, og gjekk so ned til Atrot-Addar, og upp på det fjellet som ligg sunnanfor Nedre Bet-Horon.
From there the border passed along south in the direction of Luz (the same place as Bethel). Then the border went down to Ataroth Addar, by the mountain that lies south of Beth Horon.
14 So gjorde skiftelina ein sving, og vende seg, på vestsida, sudetter frå det fjellet som ligg beint sunnanfor Bet-Horon, til ho enda innmed Kirjat-Ba’al, ein by som høyrde Juda-sønerne til; no heiter han Kirjat-Jearim. Dette var vestsida.
The boundary then went in another direction: On the western side it turned toward the south, heading toward the mountain across from Beth Horon. This boundary ended at Kiriath Baal (that is, Kiriath Jearim), a city that belonged to the tribe of Judah. This formed the border on the western side.
15 På sudsida gjekk fylkesdeilet frå enden av Kirjat-Jearim - der var det skiftelina tok til i vest - og fram til Me-Neftoahkjelda.
The south side began just outside of Kiriath Jearim. The border went from there to Ephron, to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah.
16 So gjekk skiftelina ned til foten av fjellet som ligg austanfor Hinnomssonsdalen, nordanfor Kjempesletta, tok so ned Hinnomsdalen til sudsida av Jebusitaråsen og ned til En-Rogel.
The boundary then went down to the border of the mountain which was opposite the Valley of Ben Hinnom, which was at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim. It then went down to the Valley of Hinnom, south of the slope of the Jebusites, and continued down to En Rogel.
17 Sidan svinga ho mot nord og gjekk fram til En-Semes og til dei steinkrinsarne som ligg midt for Adummimkleivi, og tok so ned til Bohan-Rubensson-steinen.
It turned northward, going in the direction of En Shemesh, and from there it went out to Geliloth, which was opposite the ascent of Adummim. Then it went down to the Stone of Bohan the son of Reuben.
18 Der tok ho yver til den åsen som ligg rett i nord for Araba, og so ned til Araba.
It passed on to the north of the shoulder of Beth Arabah and down to the Arabah.
19 Sidan heldt ho fram til nordsida av Bet-Hoglaåsen, og enda i den nørdste viki av Saltsjøen, attmed Jordanosen. Dette var fylkesdeilet i sud.
The border passed on to the north shoulder of Beth Hoglah. The border ended at the north bay of the Salt Sea, at the southern end of the Jordan. This was the boundary on the south.
20 På austsida var det Jordan som var deile. Dette var odelsjordi åt Benjamins-sønerne og ættgreinerne deira, med fylkesdeilderne rundt ikring.
The Jordan formed its border on the eastern side. This was the inheritance of the tribe of Benjamin, and it was given clan by clan, border after border, all around.

Now the cities of the tribe of Benjamin, clan by clan, had these cities: Jericho, Beth Hoglah, Emek Keziz,
22 og Bet-ha-Araba og Semarajim og Betel
Beth Arabah, Zemaraim, Bethel,
23 og Avvim og Happara og Ofra
Avvim, Parah, Ophrah,
24 og Kefar-ha-Ammoni og Ofni og Geba, tolv byar med grenderne ikring;
Kephar Ammoni, Ophni, and Geba. There were twelve cities, including their villages.
25 Gibeon og Rama og Be’erot
There were also the cities of Gibeon, Ramah, Beeroth,
26 og Mispe og Kefira og Hammosa
Mizpah, Kephirah, Mozah,
27 og Rekem og Jirpe’el og Tarala
Rekem, Irpeel, Taralah,
28 og Sela, Elef og Jebus, som no heiter Jerusalem, og Gibat og Kirjat, fjortan byar, med grenderne ikring. Dette var landet åt Benjamins-sønerne og ættgreinerne deira.
Zelah, Haeleph, Jebus (the same as Jerusalem), Gibeah, and Kiriath. There were fourteen cities, including their villages. This was the inheritance of Benjamin for their clans.
