Hoseas 4
1 Høyr Herrens ord, de Israels-born! For Herren hev sak med deim som bur i landet, av di det ingen truskap finst i landet, og ingen kjærleik og ingen kjennskap til Gud.
Hear the word of the Lord, people of Israel, for the Lord has an accusation against the inhabitants of the land! “There is no faithfulness, no loyalty, and no knowledge of God in the land.
2 Dei sver og lyg, dei drep og stel og driv hor. Dei fer med vald, og blodverk fylgjer på blodverk.
Instead there is only cursing, lying, murdering, stealing, and adultery. They commit violence, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.
3 Difor ligg landet i sorg, og alt som bur i det, sjuknar burt, både dyri på marki og fuglarne under himmelen. Jamvel fiskarne i havet set til.
As a result the land dries up, and everyone who lives there is wasting away, along with the wild animals and the birds of the sky and the fish of the sea—they are all dying.
4 Like vel skal ingen skjella og ingen refsa; for folket ditt er liksom dei som trettar med ein prest.
But no one should accuse or blame anyone else. My quarrel is with you the priests—you are the ones responsible.
5 Ja, du skal falla um dagen, og profeten skal falla med deg um natti, og mor di tynar eg.
Consequently you will stumble in daylight, and the prophet will stumble together with you in the night, and I will destroy your mother.
6 Det er ute med folket mitt, av di det vantar kunnskap. Etter di du hev vanda kunnskap, so skal eg og vanda deg, so du ikkje vert min prest. Og etter di hev gløymt lovi åt din Gud, so skal eg og gløyma borni dine.
My people are dying because they don't know me. Because you have refused to know me, I refuse to accept you as my priests. You have forgotten my teachings, so I will forget your children.
7 Di fleire dei vart, di meir synda dei mot meg. Men deira heider skal eg snu um til vanheider.
The more there were of them, the more they sinned against me, so I will change their glory into shame.
8 Av mitt folks synd nærer dei seg, og til misgjerningi deira stend deira hug.
They feed on the sin of my people, greedy for their iniquity.
9 Men no skal det ganga med presten som folket. Eg skal straffa deim for deira ferd, og gjeva deim att for deira gjerd.
So it will be for the people like the priests: I will punish them for what they have done, repaying them for their actions.
10 Og eta skal dei og ikkje mettast, hora og ikkje meirast, av di dei hev slutta med å agta på Herren.
They will eat, but they will not be satisfied; they will engage in prostitution, but they will not prosper because they have given up on the Lord to go and prostitute themselves to other gods.
11 Horeliv og vin og mjød tek vitet burt.
They destroy their minds with old wine and new wine.
12 Folket mitt spør stokken sin til råds, og hentar seg rettleiding av sin stav. For ei hordoms ånd hev villa deim, so dei med hor dreg seg burt ifrå sin Gud.
My people consult their wooden idols and their divining rods give them answers, for a spirit of prostitution makes them go astray. Prostituting themselves, they have deserted their God.
13 Øvst uppå åsarne ofrar dei, og på kollarne brenner dei røykjelse, under eik og poppel og terebinta, av di skuggen der er god. So vert døtterne dykkar skjøkjor og sonekonorne dykkar horkonor.
They offer sacrifices on the tops of mountains; they burn incense in the hills under the oak, poplar, and terebinth trees where the shade is pleasant. That's the reason why your daughters practice prostitution and your daughters-in-law commit adultery.
14 Likevel refsar eg ikkje døtterne dykkar for at dei er skjøkjor eller sonekonorne dykkar for at dei er horkonor. For mennerne sjølve løyner seg av med horkonor og ofrar med tempelskjøkjor. Soleis fer eit fåvitugt folk til sin undergang.
I will not punish your daughters when they practice prostitution, nor your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery, because you men visit whores and sacrifice with temple prostitutes. A people who lack understanding end up in disaster.
15 Um no du Israel vil halda på med ditt horeliv, so må då ikkje Juda skuldbinda seg soleis. Kom då ikkje til Gilgal, og far ikkje upp til Bet-Aven, og sver ikkje: «So sant som Herren liver.»
Though you, Israel, have become a prostitute, may Judah not offend in the same way and not enter Gilgal, nor go up to Beth-aven, nor swear saying, ‘the Lord lives.’
16 Um Israel stritar imot som ei balstyri ku, so skal Herren på hyrdingvis no føra deim som lamb på vidåtta.
For Israel is as stubborn as a stubborn cow. Should the Lord then take care of them like a lamb in a wide pasture?
17 Bunden til avgudsbilæte er Efraim. So fær han då fara!
Ephraim is bewitched by idols, so leave him alone!
18 Drikkinga deira er måtelaus. Hegdelaust driv dei sitt horeliv. Skjoldarne hennar elskar det som skamlegt er.
Once the leaders finish drinking, they go off and find prostitutes to sleep with. They love their shameful acts more than honor.
19 Med eit stormver skal gripa deim med vengjerne sine, og dei skal verta til skammar med ofringarne sine.
A wind will carry them away; they will be ashamed of their pagan worship.
