Hoseas 12
1 Efraim stundar etter vind, og jagtar etter austanver. All dagen aukar det på med lygn og vald. Samband med Assur gjer dei, og olje fører dei til Egyptarland.
Ephraim's food is the wind, and he goes after the east wind: deceit and destruction are increasing day by day; they make an agreement with Assyria, and take oil into Egypt.
2 Men Herren fører sak med Juda, og vil heimsøkja Jakob for åtferdi hans, betala honom etter gjerningarne hans.
The Lord has a cause against Judah, and will give punishment to Jacob for his ways; he will give him the reward of his acts.
3 I morslivet heldt han bror sin i hælen, og i si manndomskraft drogst han med Gud.
In the body of his mother he took his brother by the foot, and in his strength he was fighting with God;
4 Ja, han drogst med engelen og vann, han gret og bad honom um nåde. I Betel fann han honom, og der tala han med oss.
He had a fight with the angel and overcame him; he made request for grace to him with weeping; he came face to face with him in Beth-el and there his words came to him;
5 Og Herren, allhers Gud - «Herren» er hans ærenamn.
Even the Lord, the God of armies; the Lord is his name.
6 Og du, til din Gud skal du venda um. Hald fast på kjærleik og rett! Og bia stødt på din Gud!
So then, come back to your God; keep mercy and right, and be waiting at all times on your God.
7 Kana’an, i handi hans er falsk vegt. Å gjera urett likar han.
As for Canaan, the scales of deceit are in his hands; he takes pleasure in twisted ways.
8 So segjer og Efraim: «Eg hev då vorte rik, eg hev vunne meg midel. Kva eg so strævar med, so skal dei då ikkje finna hjå meg nokon urett som er synd.»
And Ephraim said, Now I have got wealth and much property; in all my works no sin may be seen in me.
9 Men eg er Herren din Gud, alt ifrå Egyptarland, eg vil endå lata deg bu i tjeldbuder liksom i høgtidsdagarne.
But I am the Lord your God from the land of Egypt; I will give you tents for your living-places again as in the days of the holy meeting.
10 Og eg hev tala til profetarne, og eg, syner i mengd hev late deim sjå, og gjenom profetarne hev eg tala i liknader.
My word came to the ears of the prophets and I gave them visions in great number, and by the mouths of the prophets I made use of comparisons.
11 Er no Gilead eit illgjerdsreir, so skal dei verta berre fåfengd. Ofrar dei uksar i Gilgal, so skal og altari deira verta som steinrøysar innmed forerne på marki.
In Gilead there is evil. They are quite without value; in Gilgal they make offerings of oxen; truly their altars are like masses of stones in the hollows of a ploughed field.
12 Og Jakob rømde til Aramsletta, og Israel træla for ei kona - og for ei kona gjætte han.
And Jacob went in flight into the field of Aram, and Israel became a servant for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.
13 Men ved ein profet førde Herren Israel frå Egyptarland, og ved ein profet gjætte han honom.
And by a prophet the Lord made Israel come up out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was kept safe.
14 Sår harm hev Efraim valde. Difor skal Herren hans lata blodskuldi hans koma yver honom, og han skal venda hans skjemdarferd mot honom sjølv.
I have been bitterly moved to wrath by Ephraim; so that his blood will be on him, and the Lord will make his shame come back on him.
