1 Mosebok 25

1 Og Abraham tok seg ei kona att; ho heitte Ketura.

And Abraham adds and takes a wife, and her name [is] Keturah;

2 Med henne fekk han Simran og Joksan og Medan og Midjan og Jisbak og Suah.

and she bears to him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.

3 Og Joksan var far til Sjeba og Dedan. Og sønerne hans Dedan var Assurar og Letusar og Leummar.

And Jokshan has begotten Sheba and Dedan; and the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim;

4 Og sønerne hans Midjan var Efa og Efer og Hanok og Abida og Elda’a. Alle desse var borni hennar Ketura.

and the sons of Midian [are] Ephah, and Epher, and Enoch, and Abidah, and Eldaah: all these [are] sons of Keturah.

5 Abraham gav Isak alt det han åtte.

And Abraham gives all that he has to Isaac;

6 Men sønerne åt fylgjekonorne sine gav Abraham gåvor og let deim flytja burt frå Isak, son sin, og taka austetter, til Austerland, medan han endå livde.

and to the sons of the concubines whom Abraham has, Abraham has given gifts, and sends them away from his son Isaac (in his being yet alive) eastward, to the east country.

7 Og dette er dagarne hans Abraham og den alderen han nådde: hundrad og fem og sytti år.

And these [are] the days of the years of the life of Abraham, which he lived, one hundred and seventy-five years;

8 Og Abraham sålast og døydde etter ein god alderdom, gamall og mett av dagar, og kom til federne sine.

and Abraham expires, and dies in a good old age, aged and satisfied, and is gathered to his people.

9 Og Isak og Ismael, sønerne hans, jorda honom i Makpelahelleren, på gjordet hans Efron, son åt Sohar, hetiten, austanfor Mamre,

And his sons Isaac and Ishmael bury him at the cave of Machpelah, at the field of Ephron, son of Zoar the Hittite, which [is] before Mamre—

10 det gjordet som Abraham hadde kjøpt av Hets-sønerne. Der vart Abraham og Sara, kona hans, jorda.

the field which Abraham bought from the sons of Heth—there Abraham has been buried, and his wife Sarah.

11 Men då Abraham var slokna, gav Gud velsigningi si til Isak, son hans. Og Isak, han budde attmed «Kjelda åt den som liver, og ser meg».

And it comes to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blesses his son Isaac; and Isaac dwells by the Well of the Living One, my Beholder.

12 Dette er ættartalet åt Ismael, son hans Abraham, han som Abraham fekk med Hagar frå Egyptarland, terna hennar Sara.

And these [are] the generations of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s handmaid, has borne to Abraham;

13 Og dette er namni på sønerne hans Ismael, dei namni som er i ættarsoga deira: Nebajot, det var eldste son hans Ismael, og Kedar og Adbe’el og Mibsam

and these [are] the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their births: firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

14 og Misma og Duma og Massa

and Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa,

15 og Hadar og Tema og Jetur og Nafis og Kedma.

Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah:

16 Dette var sønerne hans Ismael, og dette var namni deira, med grenderne og lægri deira, tolv ættarhovdingar.

these are sons of Ishmael, and these [are] their names, by their villages, and by their towers; twelve princes according to their peoples.

17 Og dette er liveåri hans Ismael: hundrad og sju og tretti år. Og han sålast og døydde, og kom til federne sine.

And these [are] the years of the life of Ishmael, one hundred and thirty-seven years; and he expires, and dies, and is gathered to his people;

18 Og dei budde frå Havila til Sur, som ligg midt for Egyptarland, når du tek leidi mot Assur. Midt for augo åt alle brørne sine slo han seg ned.

and they dwell from Havilah to Shur, which [is] before Egypt, in [your] going toward Asshur; in the presence of all his brothers has he fallen.

19 Dette er ættarsoga hans Isak, son åt Abraham:

And these [are] the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son: Abraham has begotten Isaac;

20 Abraham var far åt Isak. Og Isak var fyrti år gamall, då han gifte seg med Rebekka, dotter åt Betuel, aramæaren frå Mesopotamia, syster åt Laban, aramæaren.

and Isaac is a son of forty years in his taking Rebekah, daughter of Bethuel the Aramean, from Padan-Aram, sister of Laban the Aramean, to him for a wife.

21 Og Isak bad til Herren for Rebekka, kona si, av di ho var barnlaus. Og Herren høyrde bøni hans, og Rebekka, kona hans, vart umhender.

And Isaac makes plea to YHWH before his wife, for she [is] barren: and YHWH accepts his plea, and his wife Rebekah conceives,

22 Men borni drogst i livet hennar. Då sagde ho: «Er det so, kvi skal eg då vera til?» Og ho gjekk av stad og spurde Herren.

and the children struggle together within her, and she says, “If [it is] right—why [am] I thus?” And she goes to seek YHWH.

23 Og Herren sagde til henne: «I livet ditt er lydar tvo, Tvo folk skal frå ditt fang seg greina; Eitt folk er sterkare enn hitt. Den eldre skal den yngre tena!»

And YHWH says to her, “Two nations [are] in your womb, and two peoples from your bowels are parted; and the [one] people is stronger than the [other] people; and the older serves the younger.”

24 Då so tidi hennar kom, at ho skulde eiga barn, sjå, då var det tvillingar i livet hennar.

And her days to bear are fulfilled, and behold, twins [are] in her womb;

25 Og den som kom fyrst, var raud, og loden yver allan, som ein feld; so kalla dei honom Esau.

and the first comes out all red as a hairy robe, and they call his name Esau;

26 Og då bror hans kom, heldt han med handi i hælen på Esau. So kalla dei honom Jakob. Då dei kom til verdi, var Isak seksti år gamall.

and afterward his brother has come out, and his hand is taking hold on Esau’s heel, and one calls his name Jacob; and Isaac [is] a son of sixty years in her bearing them.

27 Og sveinarne voks upp, og Esau vart ein glup veidemann, og heldt til i skog og mark; men Jakob var ein mild og fredsam kar, og heldt seg heime, attmed tjeldbuderne.

And the youths grew, and Esau is a man acquainted [with] hunting, a man of the field; and Jacob [is] a plain man, inhabiting tents;

28 Og Isak tykte gildast um Esau, for han åt gjerne vilt; men Rebekka tykte gildast um Jakob.

and Isaac loves Esau, for [his] game [is] in his mouth; and Rebekah is loving Jacob.

29 Ein gong koka Jakob ein velling; då kom Esau heim av skogen, og var trøytt og mod.

And Jacob boils stew, and Esau comes in from the field, and he [is] weary;

30 Og Esau sagde med Jakob: «Å lat meg få gløypa i meg noko av det raude, dette raude der; eg er reint kvitt!» Difor kallar dei honom Edom.

and Esau says to Jacob, “Please let me eat some of this red-red thing, for I [am] weary”; therefore [one] has called his name Edom;

31 Då sagde Jakob: «Sel meg fyrst odelen din!»

and Jacob says, “Sell your birthright to me today.”

32 Og Esau sagde: «Du ser, eg er åt og skal døy; kva skal eg då med odelen?»

And Esau says, “Behold, I am going to die, and what is this to me—a birthright?”

33 «Gjer fyrst eiden på det!» sagde Jakob. So gjorde Esau eiden på det, og selde odelen sin til Jakob.

And Jacob says, “Swear to me today”: and he swears to him, and sells his birthright to Jacob;

34 Og Jakob gav Esau brød og linsevelling, og han åt, og drakk, og reis upp, og gjekk sin veg. So lite vyrde Esau odelen.

and Jacob has given bread and stew of lentils to Esau, and he eats, and drinks, and rises, and goes; and Esau despises the birthright.
