Esras 10

1 Ezra låg på marki framfyre gudshuset og gret og bad og sanna synderne. Då samla det seg kring honom ein ovstor skare av Israels folk, karar og kvinnor og born, og folket gret sårt.

Now, when Ezra had prayed and when he had made confession, weeping and casting himself down, before the house of God, there gathered unto him out of Israel, an exceeding large convocation—men and women and children, for the people wept with a very bitter weeping.

2 Då tok Sekanja Jehielsson av Olams-sønerne til ords og sagde med Ezra: «Me hev vore utrugne åt mot vår Gud, med di me hev teke framande konor frå dei framande folki her i landet; men endå er ikkje all voni ute for Israel i denne saki.

Then responded Shecaniah son of Jehiel of the sons of Elam, and said unto Ezra, We, have been faithful with our God, and have married foreign women from among the peoples of the land, —yet, now, there is hope for Israel concerning this thing.

3 Lat oss no gjera samband med vår Gud, um at me jagar frå oss alle desse konorne, og borni som dei hev fenge, etter kravet frå Vårherre og frå dei mennerne som ræddast for Guds lov, og lat det so verta gjort etter lovi.

Now, therefore, let us solemnize a covenant unto our God—to put away all the women and such as have been born of them, in the counsel of my lord, and them who tremble at the commandment of our God, —and, according to the law, let it be done.

4 Ris upp! for det er du som lyt greida denne saki, og me skal stydja deg. Ver frihuga og set det i verk!»

Arise, for, upon thee, resteth the thing, but, we, are with thee, —be strong, and act.

5 Då reis Ezras upp og let prestehovdingarne og levithovdingarne og alle andre hovdingar i Israel gjera eid på at det måtte vera som her det var sagt. Og dei gjorde eiden.

Then arose Ezra and made the rulers of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, swear to do according to this word—and they sware.

6 Ezra stod upp frå den staden framfyre gudshuset, og gjekk inn i romet åt Johanan Eljasibsson. Og då han var komen dit, var han ikkje god til å eta eller drikka, soleis syrgde han yver utruskapen åt deim som var attkomne frå utlægdi.

Then arose Ezra from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Jehohanan son of Eliashib, —and, when he came thither, bread, did he not eat, and, water, did he not drink, for he was mourning over the unfaithfulness of them of the Exile.

7 So lyste dei ut yver Juda og Jerusalem til deim som var komen heim or utlægdi, at dei alle skulde samlast i Jerusalem!

Then made they a proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem, unto all the Sons of the Exile, to gather themselves together unto Jerusalem;

8 Var det nokon som ikkje kom innan tridje dagen etter, soleis som hovdingarne og styringsmennerne hadde sett, so skulde all hans eigedom verta bannstøytt, og han sjølv verta jaga ut or samlingi av deim som var komne heim or utlægdi.

and, whosoever should not come within three days, according to the counsel of the rulers and the elders, all his goods should be devoted, —and, himself, be separated from the convocation of them of the Exile.

9 So samla alle Juda- og Benjamins-mennerne seg i Jerusalem til tridje dagen; det var tjugande dagen i den niande månaden. Alt folket sat på den opne plassen attmed gudshuset og skalv, både for saki skuld og for regnbyorne.

Then were gathered together all the men of Judah and Benjamin unto Jerusalem, within three days, the same, was the ninth month, on the twentieth of the month, —and all the people remained in the broadway of the house of God, trembling concerning the thing, and because of the heavy rains.

10 Då stod presten reis Ezra upp og sagde til deim: «De hev vore utrugne, med di de hev teke framande kvende til konor, og dermed hev de auka skuldi åt Israel.

Then arose Ezra the priest, and said unto them, Ye, have acted unfaithfully, and have married foreign women, —to add unto the guilt of Israel.

11 Gjev no Herren æra, Gud åt federne dykkar, og gjer etter viljen hans; skil dykk frå dei hine folki her i landet og frå dei framande konorne!»

Now, therefore, make confession unto Yahweh God of your fathers, and do his pleasure, —and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the foreign women.

12 Då svara heile lyden med høg røyst: «Ja, som du hev sagt, so er me skuldige å gjera.

Then responded all the convocation and said, with a loud voice, —Thus, according to thy word concerning us, must it be done.

13 Men folket er mange i tal, og no er det regntidi, so me kann ikkje verta standande her ute. Dette er og ei ærend som ikkje verta avgjord på ein dag eller tvo; for me hev mykje synd på oss i dette stykket.

Nevertheless, the people, are many, and, the season, is that of the heavy rains, and we are not able to stand outside, —and, the business, is not one for a single day, nor yet for two, for we have abundantly transgressed, in this thing.

14 Lat difor hovdingarne våre gjera greida for heile lyden, og lat so alle deim i byarne våre som hev teke framande kvende til konor, møta fram til tider som vert fastsette, saman med styresmennerne og domarane frå den same byen, til dess me kann få vendt av vår Guds brennande harm for denne saki.»

Let, we beseech thee, our rulers take up their station for all the convocation, and, all who, throughout our cities, have married foreign women, let them come in at times appointed, and, with them, the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the glow of the anger of our God be turned from us, concerning this matter.

15 Einast Jonatan Asaelsson og Jahzeja Tikvason gjorde motmæle mot dette, og Mesullam saman med leviten Sabbetai heldt med deim.

Only Jonathan son of Asahel and Jahzeiah son of Tikvah, made a stand against this, —and, Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite, helped them.

16 Dei som var attkomne or utlægdi, gjorde som sagt var. Og utvalde vart: Presten Ezras og nokre menner, hovdingar for ættgreinerne sine, alle nemnde på namn. So sette dei rådstemna den fyrste dagen i den tiande månaden til å granska denne saki.

But the Sons of the Exile, did thus, and Ezra the priest separated to himself certain men—ancestral heads by their ancestral houses, and all of them by name, —and they took their seats on the first day of the tenth month to search into the matter;

17 Til fyrste dagen i fyrste månaden hadde dei greidt upp saki for dei mennerne som hadde teke seg framande kvende til konor.

and they made an end with all the men who had married foreign women, —by the first day of the first month.

18 Millom prestesønerne fann dei desse som hadde teke framande kvende til konor: Av sønerne åt Jesua Josadaksson og brørne hans: Ma’aseja, Eliezer, Jarib og Gedalja;

Now there were found, of the sons of the priests, who had married foreign women, —of the sons of Jeshua son of Jozadak, and his brethren, Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah;

19 dei vilde styra frå seg konorne sine og ofra ein ver til syndoffer for den skuld dei hadde drege på seg - det lova dei og rette fram handi si på det;

and they gave their hand, that they would put away their wives, —and, being guilty, [they offered] a ram of the flock for their guilt.

20 av Immers-sønerne: Hanani og Zebadja;

And, of the sons of Immer, Hanani, and Zebadiah.

21 av Harims-sønerne: Ma’aseja, Elias, Semaja, Jehiel og Uzzia;

And, of the sons of Harim, Maaseiah and Elijah and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah.

22 av Pashurs-sønerne: Eljoenai, Ma’aseja, Ismael, Netanel, Jozabad og Elasa.

And, of the sons of Passhur, Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasar.

23 Av levitarne: Jozabad, Sime’i og Kelaja, som og heitte Kelita, Petahja, Juda og Eliezer;

And, of the Levites, Jozabad and Shimei, and Kelaiah, the same, is Kelita, Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.

24 av songarane: Eljasib; av dørvaktarane: Sallum, Telem og Uri.

And, of the singers, Eliashib. And, of the doorkeepers, Shallum and Telem and Uri.

25 Av Israel elles: Av Paros-sønerne: Ramja, Izza, Malkia, Mijamin, Eleazar, Malkia og Benaja;

And, of Israel, of the sons of Parosh, Ramiah and Izziah and Malchijah and Mijamin and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.

26 av Elams-sønerne: Mattanja, Zakarja, Jehiel, Abdi, Jeremot og Elia;

And, of the sons of Elam, Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Elijah.

27 av Zattu-sønerne: Eljoenai, Eljasib, Mattanja, Jeremot, Sabad og Aziza;

And, of the sons of Zattu, Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza.

28 av Bebai-sønerne: Johanan, Hananja, Zabbai, Atlai;

And, of the sons of Bebai, Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, Athlai.

29 av Bani-sønerne: Mesullam, Malluk og Adaja, Jasub, Seal og Jeremot;

And, of the sons of Bani, Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, Jeremoth.

30 av Pahat-Moabs-sønerne: Adna, Kelal, Benaja, Ma’aseja, Mattanja, Besalel, Binnui og Manasse;

And, of the sons of Pahath-moab, Adna and Chelal, —Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, and Binnui, and Manasseh.

31 og Harims-sønerne: Eliezer, Issia, Malkia, Semaja, Simeon,

And, [of] the sons of Harim, Eliezer, Isshijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon;

32 Benjamin, Malluk, Semarja;

Benjamin, Malluch, Shemariah.

33 av Hasums-sønerne: Mattenai, Mattatta, Sabad, Elifelet, Jeremai, Manasse, Sime’i;

Of the sons of Hashum, Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, —Jeremai, Manasseh, Shimei.

34 av Bani-sønerne: Ma’adai, Amram og Uel,

Of the sons of Bani, Maadai, Amram, and Uel;

35 Benaja, Bedeja, Keluhi,

Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhu;

36 Vanja, Meremot, Eljasib,

Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib;

37 Mattanja, Mattenai og Ja’asu,

Mettaniah, Mattenai, and Jaasu;

38 Bani, Binnui, Sime’i,

and Bani, and Binnui, Shimei;

39 og Selemja, Natan og Adaja,

and Shelemiah, and Nathan, and Adaiah;

40 Maknadbai, Sasai, Sarai,

Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai;

41 Azarel, Selemja, Semarja,

Azarel, and Shelemiah, Shemariah;

42 Sallum, Amarja, Josef;

Shallum, Amariah, Joseph.

43 av Nebo-sønerne: Je’iel, Mattitja, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddu, Joel og Benaja.

Of the sons of Nebo, Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, —Iddo, and Joel, Benaiah.

44 Alle desse hadde teke framande kvende til konor. Og millom konorne var det sume som hadde fenge born.

All these, had taken foreign women, —and had begotten of them children.
