1 Då Atalja, mor åt Ahazja, fekk vita at son hennar var dåen, tok ho seg fyre å tyna heile kongsætti.
And when 'Athalyah the mother of Achazyahu saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.
2 Men nett med same kongssønerne skulde lata livet, tok Joseba, dotter åt kong Joram, syster åt Ahazja, fekk taka i Joas Ahazjason og berga honom undan saman med fostermor hans, inn i sengkammerset, og soleis løynde dei honom for Atalja, so han ikkje vart drepen.
But Yehosheba', the daughter of king Joram, the sister of Achazyahu, took Joash the son of Achazyahu, and stole him away from among the king's sons that were slain, him and his nurse into the bed-chamber: and they hid him from 'Athalyah, so that he was not slain.
3 So var han hjå henne i Herrens hus, burtgøymd, i seks år, medan Atalja styrde landet.
And he was with her in the house of the Lord hidden for six years, while 'Athalyah was reigning over the land.
4 I det sjuande året sende Jojada bod og henta hovudsmennerne for livvakti og førde deim inn til seg i Herrens hus. Og han hadde gjort ein avtale med deim og teke deim i eid der i Herrens hus, synte han deim kongssonen.
And in the seventh year Yehoyada' sent and fetched the rulers over the hundreds, of the guards and the runners, and brought them to him into the house of the Lord, and made a covenant with them, and made them swear in the house of the Lord, and showed them the king's son.
5 So baud han deim: «Høyr no korleis de skal fara åt: Den eine tridjepart av dykk som tek vakthaldet på kviledagen, skal halda vakt i kongsgarden,
And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that ye shall do: A third part of you that enter in on the sabbath shall even be keeping watch in the king's house;
6 den andre tridjeparten i Sur-porten, tridje tridjeparten i porten bak drabantarne; de skal greida vakti til vern åt huset.
And a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the runners; so shall ye keep watch at the house, as a defence.
7 Båe dei hine vaktskifti, alle dei av dykk som skulde verta avløyste frå vakt på kviledagen, dei skal halda vakt um kongen i Herrens hus;
And two parts of you all that are relieved on the sabbath, even they shall keep watch in the house of the Lord about the king.
8 de skal gjera manngard rundt ikring kongen, kvar mann med våpn i hand! kjem nokon innpå rekkjorne, so hogg honom ned! Soleis skal de vera med kongen både når han gjeng ut, og når han gjeng inn.»
And ye shall encompass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and he that cometh within the ranges shall be put to death: and be ye with the king when he goeth out and when he cometh in.
9 Hovudsmennerne gjorde alt soleis som presten Jojada baud; kvar og ein tok sine folk, både dei som skulde taka ved vakti um kviledagen og dei som skulde ganga frå um kviledagen; dei kom til presten Jojada,
And the captains over the hundreds did in accordance with all that Yohayada' the priest had commanded: and they took every man his men that came in on the sabbath, with those that were to be relieved on the sabbath, and came to Yehoyada' the priest.
10 og presten gav hovudsmennerne dei spjoti og dei skjoldarne som kong David hadde ått, og som var i Herrens hus.
And the priest gave to the captains over the hundred the spears and shields that had belonged to king David, that were in the house of the Lord.
11 Livvakti tok post, kvar med våpn i hand, frå sudsida av huset til nordsida av huset, til altaret, og derifrå til huset att, i manngard kring kongen.
And the runners stood every man with his weapons in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, by the altar and within, round about the king.
12 So leidde han kongssonen ut og sette på honom kruna og gav honom lovi. Dei tok honom til konge og salva honom, klappa i henderne og ropa: «Live kongen!»
And he brought forth the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and [gave him] the testimony, and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, Long live the king.
13 Då Atalja høyrde ropet frå livvakti og folket, gjekk ho til Herrens hus, der folket stod.
And when 'Athalyah heard the noise of the runners [and] of the people, she came to the people in the house of the Lord.
14 Der fekk ho då sjå kongen standa på den høge tramen, som skikken var, og hovudsmennerne og lurblåsarane attmed kongen, og alt landsens folk som fegnast og bles i lur. Då reiv Atalja sund klædi sine og ropa: «Samansverjing, samansverjing!»
And she looked, and, behold, the king stood upon a stand, according to custom, and the princes and the trumpeters were by the king, and all the people of the land were rejoicing, and blowing with trumpets: and 'Athalyah then rent her clothes, and cried, Conspiracy! conspiracy!
15 Presten Jojada baud hovudsmennerne, herførarne: «Leid henne ut millom rekkjorne!» sagde han til deim, «og er so nokon fylgjer etter henne, so hogg honom ned!» Presten vilde ikkje ho skulde verta drepi i Herrens hus.
But Yehoyada' the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the commanders of the army, and said unto them, Lead her forth to within the ranges: and him that followeth her put to death with the sword. For the priest had said, She shall not be slain in the house of the Lord.
16 Dei tok henne då og førde henne inn i kongsgarden gjenom hesteporten; og der let ho livet.
And they made way for her; and she went by the way of the entrance of the horses into the king's house: and she was put to death there.
17 Jojada gjorde den pakti millom Herren og kongen og folket, at dei skulde vera Herrens folk. Ogso millom kongen og folket gjorde han semja.
And Yehoyada' made a covenant between the Lord and between the king and between the people, that they should be a people unto the Lord; and between the king and between the people.
18 Alt landsens folk gjekk so av stad burt til Ba’als-huset og reiv det ned, og altari hans og bilæti krasa dei i mol og mask. Mattan, Ba’als-presten, drap dei framfor altari. So sette Jojada vaktmenner ved Herrens hus.
And then came all the people of the land into the house of Ba'al, and pulled it down: his altars and his images they broke in pieces thoroughly, and Mattan the priest of Ba'al they slew before the altars. And the priest appointed superintendents over the house of the Lord.
19 Deretter tok han med seg hovudsmennerne og livvakti og alt landsens folk, og dei førde kongen frå Herrens hus inn i kongsgarden gjenom livvakt-porten. Han sette seg på kongsstolen,
And he took the chiefs over hundreds, and the guards, and the runners, and all the people of the land, and they brought down the king from the house of the Lord, and came by the way of the gate of the runners to the king's house: and he sat on the throne of the kings.
20 og alt folket fegnast; og byen kom til ro. Men Atalja hadde dei hogge i hel i kongsgarden.
And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet; but 'Athalyah they had slain with the sword at the king's house.
21 Sju år gamall var Joas då han vart konge.
Seven years old was Jehoash when he became king.
