2 Krønikebok 17
1 Josafat, son hans, vart konge i staden hans. Han synte seg sterk imot Israel,
Jehoshaphat son of Asa became king in his place. Jehoshaphat strengthened himself against Israel.
2 og lagde herfolk i alle dei faste byarne i Juda og sette inn vakter i Judalandet og i dei byarne i Efraim som Asa, far hans, hadde herteke.
He placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had captured.
3 Og Herren var med Josafat, for han fylgde dei fyrste vegarne åt David, far sin, og heldt seg ikkje til Ba’alarne,
Yahweh was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and did not seek the Baals.
4 men søkte til far sin’s Gud og fylgde bodi hans og gjorde ikkje soleis som Israel.
Instead, he relied on the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, not after the behavior of Israel.
5 Difor grunnfeste Herren kongedømet i hans hand, og heile Juda gav Josafat gåvor, so at han fekk mykje rikdom og æra.
So Yahweh established the rule in his hand; all Judah brought tribute to Jehoshaphat. He had riches and honor in abundance.
6 Då voks modet hans på Herrens vegar, og han fekk ogso burt offerhaugarne og Astarte-bilæti frå Juda.
His heart was committed to Yahweh's ways. He also removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah.
7 I det tridje styringsåret sitt sende han hovdingarne sine Benha’il og Obadja og Zakarja og Netanel og Mikaja til å læra i Juda-byarne,
In the third year of his reign he sent his officials Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.
8 og saman med deim levitarne Semaja og Netanja og Zebadja og Asael og Semiramot og Jonatan og Adonja og Tobia og Tob-Adonia, levitarne, og med deim prestarne Elisama og Joram.
With them were Levites: Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-Adonijah; and with them were the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
9 Dei lærde i Juda, for dei hadde Herrens lovbok med seg, og dei drog kringum i alle Juda-byarne og lærde folket.
They taught in Judah, having the book of the law of Yahweh with them. They went about throughout all the cities of Judah and taught among the people.
10 Då kom ein støkk frå Herren yver alle riki i dei landi som låg rundt ikring Juda, so dei våga seg ikkje i krig med Josafat.
Terror of Yahweh fell on all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.
11 Nokre av filistarane førde gåvor til Josafat, og sylv til skatt, og arabarane og førde småfe til honom, sju tusund og sju hundrad verar og sju tusund sju hundrad bukkar.
Some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and silver as tribute. Arabians also brought him flocks, 7,700 rams, and 7,700 goats.
12 Soleis gjekk Josafat frametter stødt til han vart overlag megtig, og han bygde borger og upplagsbyar i Juda,
Jehoshaphat became very powerful. He built fortresses and store cities in Judah.
13 og han store forråd i Juda-byarne og stridsdjerve herfolk i Jerusalem.
He had many supplies in the cities of Judah, and soldiers—strong, mighty men—in Jerusalem.

These were their divisions listed by the name of their fathers' houses: From Judah, the commanders of thousands; Adnah the commander, and with him 300,000 fighting men;

next to him Jehohanan the commander, and with him 280,000 men;

next to him Amasiah son of Zichri, who willingly offered to serve Yahweh; and with him 200,000 fighting men.
17 framleides var det frå Benjamin den djerve kjempa Eljada med tvo hundrad tusund mann, som bar boge og skjold,
From Benjamin: Eliada a powerful man of courage, and with him 200,000 armed with bows and shields;
18 jamsides honom Jozabad med hundrad og åtteti tusund djerve stridsmenner.
next to him Jehozabad, and with him 180,000 ready prepared for war.
19 Dette var dei som stod i tenesta åt kongen, umfram deim som kongen hadde lagt i borgbyarne i heile Juda.
These were those who served the king, besides those whom the king put in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.
