1 Samuels 12
1 Samuel sagde til heile Israel: «Sjå, eg hev lydt dykk i alt de hev kravt av meg. Eg hev sett ein konge yver dykk.
And Samuel said unto all Israel, Lo! I have hearkened unto your voice, in all that ye said to me, —and have set over you a king.
2 No heretter vil kongen verta styraren dykkar. Eg er gamall og grå, og sønerne mine er hjå dykk. Frå ungdomsåri til i dag hev eg vore styraren dykkar.
Now, therefore, lo! the king going to and fro before you, But, I, am old and grey-headed, and, my sons, lo! they are with you, —But, I, have gone to and fro before you from my youth until this day.
3 Sjå her stend eg! Vitna no mot meg, so Herren og den han salva høyrer på: Hev eg teke ein ukse frå nokon? eller hev eg teke eit asen frå nokon? hev eg trælka nokon? eller trakka på nokon? hev eg teke mutor av nokon, so eg skulde sjå gjenom fingrarne med honom? So vil eg gjeva dykk vederlag.»
Behold me! testify against me, before Yahweh, and before his Anointed—Whose, ox, have I taken? or whose, ass, have I taken? or whom have I oppressed? Whom have I crushed? or at whose, hands, have I taken a bribe, to cover up mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it unto you.
4 Dei svara: «Ikkje hev du trælka oss, og ikkje trakka på oss, og ingen ting hev du teke frå nokon mann.»
And they said, Thou hast not oppressed us, neither hast thou crushed us, —neither hast thou taken, at the hand of any man, any thing.
5 Då sagde han til deim: «So er Herren vitne mot dykk, og den han salva er vitne i dag, at de ingen ting hev funne å krevja hjå meg.» Dei svara ja.
And he said unto them—Witness, is Yahweh against you, and, witness, is his Anointed, this day, that ye have not found in my hand, any thing! And they said: Witness!
6 Samuel sagde til folket: «Herren er vitne, han som vekte upp Moses og Aron, og som førde federne dykkar upp frå Egyptarland.
And Samuel said unto the people: Witness, is Yahweh, who wrought with Moses and with Aaron, and who brought up your fathers out of the land of Egypt.
7 Stig no fram! so vil eg gjera upp med dykk framfor Herren for alle Guds vise verk, som han hev gjort mot dykk og mot federne dykkar.
Now, therefore, take your stand and let me plead with you, before Yahweh, —and tell you all the righteous acts of Yahweh, which he wrought with you, and with your fathers:
8 Då Jakob var komen til Egyptarland, ropa federne dykkar til Herren. Og Herren sende Moses og Aron og førde federne dykkar ut or Egyptarland og gav deim bustad her i landet.
How that, when Jacob had come into Egypt, —and your fathers had made outcry unto Yahweh, then Yahweh sent Moses and Aaron, and they brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and he caused them to dwell in this place;
9 Men dei gløymde Herren, sin Gud, og han gav deim i henderne på Sisera, herhovdingen i Hasor, og i henderne på filistarane og på Moab-kongen; og dei gjekk i strid mot deim.
And, when they forgat Yahweh their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, prince of the host of Jabin, king of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them;
10 So ropa dei til Herren og sagde: «Me hev synda; for me hev svike Herren og tent Ba’als-bilæti og Astarte-bilæti; men frels oss no frå fiendarne våre, so vil me tena deg.»
But, when they made outcry unto Yahweh and said—We have sinned, in that we have forsaken Yahweh, and have served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, —now, therefore, deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, that we may serve thee,
11 So sende Herren Jerubba’al og Bedan og Jefta og Samuel, og frelste dykk frå fiendarne dykkar på alle kantar, so de fekk bu trygt.
then Yahweh sent Jerubbaal and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, —and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies, on every side, and ye dwelt in safety.
12 Men då de såg Nahas, ammonitarkongen, kom yver dykk, so sagde de til meg: «Nei, ein konge vil me hava til styrar yver oss» - endå Herren, dykkar Gud, var kongen dykkar.
But, when ye saw that, Nahash king of the sons of Ammon, came upon you, then said ye unto me, Nay! but, a king, shall reign over us, when, Yahweh your God, was your king!
13 Og no - her stend kongen som de hev kåra, den det hev kravt. Herren hev sett ein konge yver dykk.
Now, therefore, lo! the king whom ye have chosen, for whom ye have asked, —lo! therefore, Yahweh hath set over you a king.
14 Berre de no vil bera age for Herren og tena honom og lyda honom, og ikkje setja dykk upp mot Herrens bod, men fylgja Herren, dykkar Gud, både de og kongen som hev vorte styraren dykkar!
If ye will revere Yahweh, and serve him, and hearken unto his voice, and not rebel against the bidding of Yahweh, then shall, both ye and your king that reigneth over you, continue to follow after Yahweh your God.
15 Lyder de ikkje Herren, men set de dykk upp mot Herrens bod, då vil Herrens hand vera imot dykk liksom mot federne dykkar.
But, if ye hearken not unto the voice of Yahweh, but rebel against the bidding of Yahweh, then will the hand of Yahweh continue to be against you, and against your fathers.
16 Stig no fram og skoda dette store underet som Herren vil gjera beint framfor augo dykkar!
Even now, stand still and see this great thing, —which Yahweh is about to do before your eyes:
17 No er det tidi for kveiteskurden, veit det. Men eg vil ropa til Herren, at han sender tora og regn. Soleis skal de skyna og sjå kor stor ei synd det er i Herrens augo, det de gjorde då de kravde ein konge.»
Is it not wheat harvest, to-day? I will cry unto Yahweh, that he may give forth thunderings and rain, —know ye then and see, that, your wrong, is great which ye have done in the sight of Yahweh, in asking for yourselves, a king.
18 Samuel ropa til Herren. Og Herren sende torever og regn den dagen. Då fekk heile folket stor age for Herren og for Samuel.
So Samuel cried unto Yahweh, and Yahweh gave forth thunderings and rain, on that day, —and all the people greatly feared Yahweh, and Samuel.
19 Og heile folket sagde til Samuel: «Bed til Herren for tenarane dine, so me ikkje skal døy, for di me hev auka synderne våre med den misgjerningi at me kravde ein konge!»
And all the people said unto Samuel—Pray for thy servants, unto Yahweh thy God, and let it not be that we die, —For we have added, to all our sins, a wrong, in asking for ourselves a king.
20 Samuel sagde til folket: «Ver ikkje rædde! Visst hev de gjort alt dette vonde. Men fall berre ikkje frå Herren no! men ten Herren av all dykkar hug!
Then said Samuel unto the people—Do not fear, ye, have done all this wrong, —nevertheless, do not turn aside from following Yahweh, but serve Yahweh, with all your heart;
21 Fall ikkje frå! for då kjem de til å fara etter tome avgudar, som ingen gagnar og ingen fagnar; tome er dei.
and turn not aside after vanities, that can neither profit nor deliver, because, vanities, they are.
22 Herren skal taka folket sitt til nåde, for sitt store namn skuld, etter di det tektest Herren å gjera dykk til sitt folk.
For Yahweh will not give up his people, because of his great name, for Yahweh was minded to make you his people.
23 Og eg for meg: aldri i verdi vil eg synda mot Herren med å slutta å beda for dykk. Nei, eg vil læra dykk den gode og rette vegen.
As for me also, far be it from me, that I should sin against Yahweh, by ceasing to pray for you, —but I will direct you, in the good and right way.
24 Berre de vil bera age for Herren og ten honom truleg av all dykkar hug! For sjå kor store ting han hev gjort for dykk!
Only, revere Yahweh, and serve him in truth, with all your heart, —for see, what great things he hath done with you.
25 Men gjer de det som vondt er, so er det ute både med dykk og kongen dykkar.»
But, if ye, will do wrong, both ye and your king shall be swept away.
