1 Samuels 11
1 Ammoniten Nahas drog upp og kringsette Jabes i Gilead. Då sagde alle Jabes-buarne med Nahas: «Gjer forlik med oss, so skal me tena deg!»
And it came to pass about a month after this, that Naas the Ammanite went up, and encamped against Jabis Galaad: and all the men of Jabis said to Naas the Ammanite, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve you.
2 Men ammoniten Nahas svara deim: «Ja, på det vilkåret gjer eg forlik med dykk, at eg sting ut høgre auga på dykk alle, til skjemsla for heile Israel.»
Naas the Ammanite said to them, On these terms will I make a covenant with you, that I should put out all your right eyes, and I will lay a reproach upon Israel.
3 Styresmennerne i Jabes sagde til honom: «Gjev oss sju dagar frest, so me fær skikka bod yver heile Israelsriket. Er det so ingen som bergar oss, so skal me gjeva oss yver til deg.»
And the men of Jabis say to him, Allow us seven days, and we will send messengers into all the coasts of Israel: if there should be no one to deliver us, we will come out to you.
4 Då sendebodi kom til Sauls Gibea og lagde fram saki fram for folket, brast heile folket i gråt.
And the messengers came to Gabaa to Saul, and they speak the words into the ears of the people; and all the people lifted up their voice, and wept.
5 Saul kom nett heim frå åkeren attum uksarne. Han spør: «Kva hev kome åt folket, etter di dei græt?» Dei fortalde honom det som Jabes-buarne hadde sagt.
And, behold, Saul came after the early morning out of the field: and Saul said, Why does the people week? and they tell him the words of the men of Jabis.
6 Då Saul høyrde dette, kom Guds ande yver honom; harmen loga upp i honom;
And the Spirit of the Lord came upon Saul when he heard these words, and his anger was greatly kindled against them.
7 og han tok tvo uksar, lema deim sund og sende stykki rundt i heile Israelsriket med sendebod som sagde: «Den som ikkje fylgjer Saul og Samuel, hans uksar skal fara soleis.» Ei rædsla frå Herren fall på heile folket. Og ut drog dei, alle som ein.
And he took two cows, and cut them in pieces, and sent them into all the coasts of Israel by the hand of messengers, saying, Whoso comes not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall they do to his oxen: and a transport from the Lord came upon the people of Israel, and they came out to battle as one man.
8 Han mynstra heren i Bezek; Israels-sønerne talde tri hundrad tusund, og Juda-folki tretti tusund.
And he reviews them at Bezec in Bama, every man of Israel six hundred thousand, and the men of Juda seventy thousand.
9 Dei sagde med sendemennerne som var komne: «So skal det segja med Jabes-buarne i Gilead: «I morgon ved høgstedags leite skal de få hjelp!»» Då sendemennerne kom heim og fortalde det til Jabes-buarne, vart dei glade.
And he said to the messengers that came, Thus shall you say to the men of Jabis, To-morrow you shall have deliverance when the sun is hot; and the messengers came to the city, and told the men of Jabis, and they rejoiced.
10 Og dei sagde til Nahas: «I morgon skal me gjeva oss yver til dykk; då fær de gjera med oss som de tykkjer.»
And the men of Jabis said to Naas the Ammanite, To-morrow we will come forth to you, and you shall do to us what seems good in your sight.
11 Morgonen etter skifte Saul folket i tri flokkar. Og dei braut seg inn i lægret fyrstundes i otta, og hogg ned ammonitarne frå morgonen til høgstedags leite. Dei som slapp undan, vart spreidde til alle kantar, so det vart ikkje att tvo i lag.
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Saul divided the people into three companies, and they go into the midst of the camp in the morning watch, and they struck the children of Ammon until the day was hot; at it came to pass that those who were left were scattered, and there were not left amongst them two together.
12 Då sagde folket med Samuel: «Kven var det som sagde: «Skal Saul vera konge yver oss?» Lat oss få tak i dei kararne, so vil me drepa deim.»
And the people said to Samuel, Who has said that Saul shall not reign over us? Give up the men, and we will put them to death.
13 Men Saul sagde: «Ingen skal drepast i dag. For i dag hev Herren gjeve Israel siger.»
And Saul said, No man shall die this day, for today the Lord has wrought deliverance in Israel.
14 Og Samuel sagde med folket: «Kom, lat oss ganga til Gilgal og nya upp kongedømet der!»
And Samuel spoke to the people, saying, Let us go to Galgala, and there renew the kingdom.
15 Og heile folket gjekk til Gilgal, og gjorde Saul til konge der framfor Herren i Gilgal, og ofra takkoffer framfor Herren. Og alle Israels-mennerne gledde seg med ovstor fagnad.
And all the people went to Galgala, and Samuel anointed Saul there to be king before the Lord in Galgala, and there he offered meat-offerings and peace-offerings before the Lord: and Samuel and all Israel rejoiced exceedingly.
