1 En læresalme av Etan, esrahitten. Om Herrens nådegjerninger vil jeg synge til evig tid; fra slekt til slekt vil jeg kunngjøre din trofasthet med min munn.
“A Maskil of Ethan the Ezrachite.” The kindnesses of the Lord will I for ever sing: from generation to generation will I make known thy faithfulness with my mouth.
2 For jeg sier: Miskunnhet bygges op til evig tid, i himmelen grunnfester du din trofasthet.
For I have said, To eternity will kindness be built up: the heavens—yea, in these wilt thou establish thy faithfulness.
3 Du sier: Jeg har gjort en pakt med min utvalgte, jeg har svoret David, min tjener:
“I have made a covenant with my elect, I have sworn unto David my servant,
4 Til evig tid vil jeg grunnfeste ditt avkom, og jeg vil bygge din trone fra slekt til slekt. (Sela)
Unto eternity will I establish thy seed, and I will build up thy throne, from generation to generation.” (Selah)
5 Og himlene priser din underfulle gjerning, Herre, og din trofasthet prises i de helliges forsamling.
And the heavens praise thy wonder, O Lord: also thy faithfulness in the assembly of holy ones.
6 For hvem i det høie er å ligne med Herren? Hvem er Herren lik blandt Guds sønner,
For who in the sky can be compared unto the Lord? who can be likened unto the Lord among the sons of the mighty?
7 en Gud, såre forferdelig i de helliges hemmelige råd og fryktelig for alle dem som er omkring ham?
God is greatly terrific in the secret council of the holy ones and fear-inspiring over all that are about him.
8 Herre, hærskarenes Gud, hvem er sterk som du, Herre? Og din trofasthet er rundt omkring dig.
O Lord God of hosts, who is powerful, like thee, Eternal! and thy faithfulness is round about thee.
9 Du er den som hersker over havets overmot; når dets bølger reiser sig, lar du dem legge sig.
Thou rulest over the pride of the sea: when its waves are lifted up, thou assuagest them.
10 Du har sønderknust Rahab som en ihjelslått; med din styrkes arm har du spredt dine fiender.
Thou didst crush Rahab as one that is slain: with thy strong arm didst thou scatter thy enemies.
11 Dig hører himlene til, dig også jorden; jorderike og alt det som fyller det - du har grunnfestet dem;
Thine are the heavens, also thine is the earth: as for the world and what filleth it, thou hast founded them.
12 nord og syd - du har skapt dem; Tabor og Hermon jubler over ditt navn.
The north and the south—these hast thou created: Tabor and Chermon shall rejoice in thy name.
13 Du har en arm med velde; sterk er din hånd, ophøiet er din høire hånd.
Thine is the powerful arm, with might: strong is thy hand, and exalted is thy right hand.
14 Rettferd og rett er din trones grunnvoll; nåde og sannhet går frem for ditt åsyn.
Righteousness and justice are the prop of thy throne: kindness and truth precede thy presence.
15 Salig er det folk som kjenner til jubel; Herre, i ditt åsyns lys skal de vandre.
Happy is the people that know the cornet's sound: O Lord, in the light of thy countenance will they ever walk firmly.
16 I ditt navn skal de fryde sig hele dagen, og ved din rettferdighet blir de ophøiet.
In thy name will they be glad all the day, and in thy righteousness will they be exalted.
17 For du er deres styrkes pryd, og ved din godhet ophøier du vårt horn.
For thou art the glory of their strength; and through thy favor will our horn be exalted.
18 For Herren er vårt skjold, og Israels Hellige vår konge.
For of the Lord is our shield; and of the Holy One of Israel is our king.
19 Dengang talte du i et syn til dine fromme og sa: Jeg har nedlagt hjelp hos en helt, jeg har ophøiet en ung mann av folket.
Then spokest thou in a vision to thy pious [servant], and saidst, “I have bestowed help to one that is mighty; I have exalted a youth out of the people;
20 Jeg har funnet David, min tjener, jeg har salvet ham med min hellige olje.
I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him;
21 Min hånd skal alltid være med ham, og min arm skal gi ham styrke.
With whom my hand shall be firmly established; also my arm shall strengthen him;
22 Fienden skal ikke plage ham, og den urettferdige skal ikke undertrykke ham.
The enemy shall not exact from him like a lender: and the son of injustice shall not afflict him:
23 Men jeg vil sønderknuse hans motstandere for hans åsyn og slå dem som hater ham.
And I will beat down before his face his assailants, and those that hate him will I plague.
24 Og min trofasthet og min miskunnhet skal være med ham, og i mitt navn skal hans horn ophøies.
But my faithfulness and my kindness shall be with him: and through my name shall his horn be exalted.
25 Og jeg vil la ham legge sin hånd på havet og sin høire hånd på elvene.
And I will place on the sea his hand, and on the rivers his right hand.
26 Han skal rope til mig: Du er min far, min Gud og min frelses klippe.
He will call unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.
27 Og jeg vil gjøre ham til den førstefødte, til den høieste blandt kongene på jorden.
Also I will appoint my first-born, the highest among the kings of the earth.
28 Jeg vil bevare min miskunnhet mot ham til evig tid, og min pakt skal stå fast for ham.
For evermore will I keep for him my kindness, and my covenant shall stand faithfully with him.
29 Og jeg vil la hans avkom bli til evig tid og hans trone som himmelens dager.
And I appoint for ever his seed, and his throne as the days of heaven.
30 Dersom hans barn forlater min lov og ikke vandrer i mine bud,
If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my ordinances;
31 dersom de krenker mine forskrifter og ikke holder mine befalinger,
If they profane my statutes, and keep not my commandments:
32 da vil jeg hjemsøke deres synd med ris og deres misgjerning med plager.
Then will I visit with the rod their transgressions, and with plagues their iniquity.
33 Men min miskunnhet vil jeg ikke ta fra ham, og min trofasthet skal ikke svikte;
Nevertheless my kindness will I not make utterly void from him, and I will not act falsely against my faithfulness.
34 jeg vil ikke bryte min pakt og ikke forandre hvad som gikk ut fra mine leber.
I will not profane my covenant, and what is gone out of my lips will I not alter.
35 Ett har jeg svoret ved min hellighet, sannelig, for David vil jeg ikke lyve:
One thing have I sworn by my holiness, that I will not lie unto David.
36 Hans avkom skal bli til evig tid, og hans trone som solen for mitt åsyn.
His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne shall be like the sun before me.
37 Som månen skal den stå evindelig, og vidnet i det høie er trofast. (Sela)
Like the moon shall it be firmly established for ever, and as this faithful witness in the sky.” (Selah)
38 Og du har forkastet og forsmådd, du er blitt harm på din salvede.
And yet thou hast east off and despised, thou hast become wroth with thy anointed.
39 Du har rystet av dig pakten med din tjener, du har vanhelliget hans krone ned i støvet.
Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned, down to the ground, his crown.
40 Du har revet ned alle hans murer, du har lagt hans festninger i grus.
Thou hast broken down all his fences: thou hast brought his strong-holds to terror.
41 Alle de som går forbi på veien, har plyndret ham; han er blitt til hån for sine naboer.
All that pass by the way plunder him: he is become a reproach to his neighbors.
42 Du har ophøiet hans motstanderes høire hånd, du har gledet alle hans fiender.
Thou hast raised up the right hand of his assailants: thou hast caused all his enemies to rejoice.
43 Og du lot hans skarpe sverd vike og lot ham ikke holde stand i striden.
Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not let him stand erect in the battle.
44 Du har gjort ende på hans glans og kastet hans trone i støvet.
Thou hast made his brilliancy cease; and his throne hast thou thrown down to the ground.
45 Du har forkortet hans ungdoms dager, du har dekket ham med skam. (Sela)
Thou hast shortened the days of his youth: thou hast enshrouded him with shame. (Selah)
46 Hvor lenge, Herre, vil du skjule dig evindelig? Hvor lenge skal din harme brenne som ild?
How long, Lord, wilt thou hide thyself, continually? how long shall thy fury burn like fire?
47 Kom dog i hu hvor kort mitt liv er, hvor forgjengelige du har skapt alle menneskenes barn!
Remember [what] I am, what my duration is [here], for what nothingness thou hast created all sons of men!
48 Hvem er den mann som lever og ikke ser døden, som frir sin sjel fra dødsrikets vold? (Sela) (Sheol h7585)
What man is there that can live, and shall not see death? that can deliver his soul from the power of the nether word? (Selah) (Sheol h7585)
49 Hvor er, Herre, dine forrige nådegjerninger, som du tilsvor David i din trofasthet?
Where are thy former kindnesses, O Lord, which thou hast sworn unto David by thy truth?
50 Kom i hu, Herre, dine tjeneres vanære, at jeg må bære alle de mange folk i mitt skjød,
Remember, Lord, the disgrace of thy servants; that I bear in my bosom the [burden] of all the many nations;
51 at dine fiender håner, Herre, at de håner din salvedes fotspor!
That thy enemies have defied, O Lord; that they have defied the footsteps of thy anointed.
52 Lovet være Herren til evig tid! Amen, amen.
Blessed be the Lord for evermore. Amen, and Amen.
