1 En sang, en salme av Asaf. Gud, ti ikke! Vær ikke stille og hold dig ikke rolig, Gud!
“A song or psalm of Assaph.” O God, take no rest for thyself: be not silent and keep not still, O God!
2 For se, dine fiender larmer, og de som hater dig, løfter hodet.
For, lo, thy enemies make a tumult, and they that hate thee have lifted up their head.
3 Mot ditt folk legger de med svik hemmelige råd, og de rådslår mot dem du verner.
Against thy people they take crafty secret device, and they consult against those whom thou protectest.
4 De sier: Kom og la oss utslette dem, så de ikke mere er et folk, og Israels navn skal ikke mere kommes i hu.
They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; and the name of Israel shall be remembered no more.
5 For de har av hjertet rådslått med hverandre; mot dig inngår de pakt,
For they have consulted cordially together; against thee they make a covenant:
6 Edoms telt og ismaelittene, Moab og hagarenene,
The tents of Edom, and the Ishmaelites: Moab, and the Hagarenes;
7 Gebal og Ammon og Amalek, Filistea tillikemed innbyggerne av Tyrus.
Gebal, and 'Ammon, and 'Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;
8 Også Assur har gitt sig i lag med dem, de er blitt Lots barns arm. (Sela)
Also Asshur is joined with them; they have become an arm unto the children of Lot. (Selah)
9 Gjør med dem som med Midian, som med Sisera, som med Jabin ved bekken Kison!
Do unto them as [unto] Midian; as to Sissera, as to Jabin, at the brook Kishon:
10 De blev ødelagt ved En-Dor, de blev til gjødsel for jorden.
Who were annihilated at 'En-dor; they became as dung for the ground.
11 La det gå dem, deres ypperste menn, som Oreb og som Se'eb, og alle deres fyrster som Sebah og som Salmunna,
Render them, their nobles, like 'Oreb, and like Zeeb; yea, like Zebach and like Zalmunna' all their princes;
12 dem som sier: Vi vil ta oss Guds boliger til eie!
Who said, Let us conquer for ourselves the dwellings of God,
13 Min Gud, gjør dem som en støvhvirvel, som agner for vinden!
O my God, render them like the thistle-down, like stubble before the wind.
14 Som en ild som tender en skog, og som en lue som setter fjell i brand,
As the fire burneth up a forest, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire:
15 således forfølge du dem med din storm og forferde du dem med ditt stormvær!
So pursue them with thy storm, and with thy whirlwind do thou terrify them.
16 Fyll deres åsyn med skam, så de søker ditt navn, Herre!
Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek thy name, O Lord!
17 La dem blues og forferdes til evig tid, la dem bli til skamme og gå under!
Let them be made ashamed and terrified for ever and aye; yea, let them be put to the blush and perish:
18 Og la dem kjenne at du alene har navnet Herre, den Høieste over all jorden!
That they may know that thou, whose name is the Eternal, art by thyself alone, the Most High over all the earth.
