1 Til sangmesteren, for Jedutun; en salme av David. Bare i håp til Gud er min sjel stille; fra ham kommer min frelse.
God is the only one who can give me peace in my inner being, and he is the one who saves me [from my enemies].
2 Han alene er min klippe og min frelse, min borg, jeg skal ikke rokkes meget.
Only he is like an [overhanging] rock [under which I can be safe] [MET]; he will be [like] a shelter, [with the result that] I will never be defeated [MET].
3 Hvor lenge vil I alle storme løs på en mann, bryte ham ned som en mur som heller, et gjerde som støtes om?
When will you, [my enemies], stop attacking me [RHQ]? I feel that I am [as useless against you as] a wall that is about to fall over or a broken-down fence [MET].
4 De rådslår bare om å styrte ham ned fra hans høihet, de har sin lyst i løgn; med sin munn velsigner de, men i sitt hjerte forbanner de. (Sela)
My enemies plan to remove me from my important position so that people no longer honor me. They delight in telling lies. They bless people by what they say [MTY], but in their inner beings they curse [those people].
5 Bare i håp til Gud vær stille, min sjel! for fra ham kommer mitt håp.
God is the only one who gives me peace in my inner being; he is the one whom I confidently expect [to help me].
6 Han alene er min klippe og min frelse, min borg, jeg skal ikke rokkes.
Only he is [like an overhanging] rock [under which I can be safe] [MET]; he is [like] a shelter, and [as a result] I will never be defeated.
7 Hos Gud er min frelse og min ære; min sterke klippe, min tilflukt er i Gud.
God is the one who saves me and honors me. He is [like an overhanging] strong rock under which I [can] find shelter [MET].
8 Sett eders lit til ham til enhver tid, I folk! Utøs eders hjerte for hans åsyn! Gud er vår tilflukt. (Sela)
[You my] people, always trust in him. Tell him all your troubles, because he is (our refuge/the one who protects us) [MET].
9 Bare tomhet er menneskenes barn, bare løgn er mannens sønner; i vektskålen stiger de til værs, de er tomhet alle sammen.
People who are considered to be unimportant are [as worthless/unreliable as] a breath of air; people who are considered to be important [also] really (amount to nothing/cannot be trusted [to help us)]. If you put them all on a scale, [it would be as if] they weighed less than a puff of air.
10 Stol ikke på vold, og sett ikke fåfengt håp til røvet gods! Når rikdommen vokser, så akt ikke på det!
Do not trust in money gained by extorting it from others; do not try to gain anything by robbing others. If you become very wealthy, do not trust in [IDM] your money.
11 En gang har Gud talt, ja to ganger har jeg hørt det, at styrke hører Gud til.
I have heard God say more than once that he is the one who [really] has power,
12 Og dig, Herre, hører miskunnhet til; for du betaler enhver efter hans gjerning.
and that he is the one who faithfully loves [us]. He rewards every one [of us] according to the deeds that we do.
