1 Til sangmesteren, med strengelek; en læresalme av David, da sifittene kom og sa til Saul: David holder sig skjult hos oss. Gud, frels mig ved ditt navn, og hjelp mig til min rett ved din kraft!

For the end, among Hymns of instruction by David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, Lo, is not David hid with us? Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy might.

2 Gud, hør min bønn, vend øret til min munns ord!

O God, hear my prayer; hearken to the words of my mouth.

3 For fremmede har reist sig imot mig, og voldsmenn står mig efter livet; de har ikke Gud for øie. (Sela)

For strangers have risen up against me, and mighty men have sought my life: they have not set God before them. (Pause)

4 Se, Gud hjelper mig, Herren er den som opholder mitt liv.

For lo! God assists me; and the Lord is the helper of my soul.

5 Det onde skal falle tilbake på mine fiender; utrydd dem i din trofasthet!

He shall return evil to mine enemies; utterly destroy them in thy truth.

6 Med villig hjerte vil jeg ofre til dig; jeg vil prise ditt navn, Herre, fordi det er godt.

I will willingly sacrifice to thee: I will give thanks to thy name, O Lord; for [it is] good.

7 For av all nød frir han mig ut, og på mine fiender ser mitt øie med lyst.

For thou hast delivered me out of all affliction, and mine eye has seen [my desire] upon mine enemies.
