1 Til sangmesteren; en læresalme av David, da edomitten Doeg kom og gav Saul til kjenne og sa til ham: David er kommet i Akimeleks hus. Hvorfor roser du dig av ondskap, du veldige? Guds miskunnhet varer hele dagen.
[For the Chief Musician. A contemplation by David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, "David has come to Abimelech's house."] Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man? God's loving kindness endures continually.
2 På undergang tenker din tunge, lik en hvesset rakekniv, du som legger op listige råd!
Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
3 Du elsker ondt istedenfor godt, løgn istedenfor å tale hvad rett er. (Sela)
You love evil more than good, lying rather than speaking the truth. (Selah)
4 Du elsker hvert ord som volder ødeleggelse, du svikaktige tunge!
You love all devouring words, you deceitful tongue.
5 Gud skal da også bryte dig ned for evig tid; han skal gripe dig og rive dig ut av teltet og rykke dig op av de levendes land. (Sela)
God will likewise destroy you forever. He will take you up, and pluck you out of your tent, and root you out of the land of the living. (Selah)
6 Og de rettferdige skal se det og frykte, og de skal le av ham og si:
The righteous also will see it, and fear, and laugh at him, saying,
7 Se, der er den mann som ikke holdt Gud for sitt sterke vern, men satte sin lit til sin store rikdom, satte sin styrke i sin ondskap.
"Look, this is the man who did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and was confident in his desire."
8 Men jeg er som et grønt oljetre i Guds hus, jeg setter min lit til Guds miskunnhet evindelig og alltid.
But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in God's house. I trust in God's loving kindness forever and ever.
9 Jeg vil prise dig evindelig, fordi du har gjort det, og jeg vil bie efter ditt navn, fordi det er godt, for dine frommes åsyn.
I will give you thanks forever, because you have done it. I will hope in your name, for it is good, in the presence of your faithful ones.
