1 Til sangmesteren; en salme av David, da profeten Natan var kommet til ham, efterat han var gått inn til Batseba. Vær mig nådig, Gud, efter din miskunnhet, utslett mine overtredelser efter din store barmhjertighet!
Unto the end, a psalm of David, When Nathan the prophet came to him after he had sinned with Bethsabee. Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy great mercy. And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my iniquity.
2 Tvett mig vel, så jeg blir fri for misgjerning, og rens mig fra min synd!
Wash me yet more from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For mine overtredelser kjenner jeg, og min synd er alltid for mig.
For I know my iniquity, and my sin is always before me.
4 Mot dig alene har jeg syndet, og hvad ondt er i dine øine, har jeg gjort, forat du skal være rettferdig når du taler, være ren når du dømmer.
To thee only have I sinned, and have done evil before thee: that thou mayst be justified in thy words and mayst overcome when thou art judged.
5 Se, jeg er født i misgjerning, og min mor har undfanget mig i synd.
For behold I was conceived in iniquities; and in sins did my mother conceive me.
6 Se, du har lyst til sannhet i hjertets innerste; så lær mig da visdom i hjertets dyp!
For behold thou hast loved truth: the uncertain and hidden things of thy wisdom thou hast made manifest to me.
7 Rens mig fra synd med isop så jeg blir ren, tvett mig så jeg blir hvitere enn sne!
Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed: thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.
8 La mig høre fryd og glede, la de ben fryde sig som du har sønderknust!
To my hearing thou shalt give joy and gladness: and the bones that have been humbled shall rejoice.
9 Skjul ditt åsyn for mine synder, og utslett alle mine misgjerninger!
Turn away thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.
10 Gud, skap i mig et rent hjerte, og forny en stadig ånd inneni mig!
Create a clean heart in me, O God: and renew a right spirit within my bowels.
11 Kast mig ikke bort fra ditt åsyn, og ta ikke din Hellige Ånd fra mig!
Cast me not away from thy face; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
12 Gi mig igjen din frelses fryd, og ophold mig med en villig ånd!
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and strengthen me with a perfect spirit.
13 Så vil jeg lære overtredere dine veier, og syndere skal omvende sig til dig.
I will teach the unjust thy ways: and the wicked shall be converted to thee.
14 Fri mig fra blodskyld, Gud, min frelses Gud! Så skal min tunge juble over din rettferdighet.
Deliver me from blood, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall extol thy justice.
15 Herre, oplat mine leber! Så skal min munn kunngjøre din pris.
O Lord, thou wilt open my lips: and my mouth shall declare thy praise.
16 For du har ikke lyst til slaktoffer, ellers vilde jeg gi dig det; i brennoffer har du ikke behag.
For if thou hadst desired sacrifice, I would indeed have given it: with burnt offerings thou wilt not be delighted.
17 Offere for Gud er en sønderbrutt ånd, et sønderbrutt og sønderknust hjerte vil du, Gud, ikke forakte.
A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
18 Gjør vel imot Sion efter din nåde, bygg Jerusalems murer!
Deal favourably, O Lord, in thy good will with Sion; that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up.
19 Da skal du ha behag i rettferdighets offere, i brennoffer og heloffer; da skal de ofre okser på ditt alter.
Then shalt thou accept the sacrifice of justice, oblations and whole burnt offerings: then shall they lay calves upon thy altar.
