Salmenes 48

1 En sang, en salme; av Korahs barn. Stor er Herren og høilovet i vår Guds stad, på hans hellige berg.

A Canticle Psalm. To the sons of Korah, on the second Sabbath. The Lord is great and exceedingly praiseworthy, in the city of our God, on his holy mountain.

2 Fagert hever det sig, en glede for all jorden er Sions berg, det ytterste Norden, den store konges stad.

Mount Zion is being founded with the exultation of the whole earth, on the north side, the city of the great king.

3 Gud er i dens borger, han er blitt kjent som et fast vern.

In her houses, God will be known, since he will support her.

4 For se, kongene samlet sig, de drog frem tilsammen.

For behold, the kings of the earth have been gathered together; they have convened as one.

5 De så, da blev de forferdet; de blev slått med redsel, flyktet i hast.

Such did they see, and they were astonished: they were disturbed, they were moved.

6 Beven grep dem der, angst som hos en fødende kvinne.

Trembling took hold of them. In that place, their pains were that of a woman in labor.

7 Ved østenvind knuste du Tarsis-skib.

With a vehement spirit, you will crush the ships of Tarshish.

8 Likesom vi hadde hørt, så har vi nu sett det i Herrens, hærskarenes Guds stad, i vår Guds stad; Gud gjør den fast til evig tid. (Sela)

As we have heard, so we have seen, in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God. God has founded it in eternity.

9 Vi grunder, Gud, på din miskunnhet midt i ditt tempel.

We have received your mercy, O God, in the midst of your temple.

10 Som ditt navn, Gud, så er din pris inntil jordens ender; din høire hånd er full av rettferdighet.

According to your name, O God, so does your praise reach to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is full of justice.

11 Sions berg gleder sig, Judas døtre fryder sig for dine dommers skyld.

Let mount Zion rejoice, and let the daughters of Judah exult, because of your judgments, O Lord.

12 Gå omkring Sion og vandre rundt om det, tell dets tårn!

Encircle Zion and embrace her. Discourse in her towers.

13 Gi akt på dets voller, vandre gjennem dets borger, forat I kan fortelle derom til den kommende slekt.

Set your hearts on her virtue. And distribute her houses, so that you may discourse of it in another generation.

14 For denne Gud er vår Gud evindelig og alltid; han skal føre oss ut over døden.

For this is God, our God, in eternity and forever and ever. He will rule us forever.
